I was watching a replay of the 1985 draft and saw the MASSIVE HYPE there was about Patrick Ewing going to the Knicks with the 1st pick. It's stunning how terrible they were in his first 2 years(23-59 and 24-58). Other "franchise-changing" centers(Ralph Sampson, Akeem Olajuwon, David Robinson, Shaquille O'Neal) who went #1 overall to bad teams significantly improved their teams in their first year. All the Knicks fans who bought tickets right after they won that RIGGED lottery must've been PISSED
I say this as a lifelong Knicks fan: the team has made ludicrous moves that have continuously set the team back. Isiah wasn't the first..Layden made his share of really stupid moves, even the likes of Grunfeld and his predecessors. Always going for washed up ex-stars, vets past their prime, trading away rookies and you
ng players that turned out to blossom, and so on. Not to mention never getting Ewing that complementary star. The recovered Bernard King could have been it but he was traded away.
Bill Cartwright is to Patrick Ewing as Steve Francis is to Stephon Marbury. Scotty Stirling would be fired back then and just last year, Isaiah Thomas was let go...can the Scotty Stirling situation of 1987 can be applied to Donnie Walsh's tenure with the Knicks too? Time will tell...but yeah, 20 years later. Who wouldda thunk it?? Knicks fans deserve better!

"If that conversation were being held in New York City, the following question would come up: What's wrong with the Knicks?"
...and 20 years later, they're asking the same question.
