I was enlightened with this video. I got the clear meaning of bedside manners.
The doctor-speaker is fluent and pronounces the words clearly. I love the way he delivers his talk. I went on with the viewing until the end because of his prowess in speaking in front.
Are any of you doctors? A hospital isn't a restaurant, doctors aren't your wait-staff... You go to the hospital to get treatment for your signs/symptoms... They are just doing their job. Ironically, it's the patients that lack the sympathy for these doctors who've devoted their own lives for the sake of helping others. Our society has become complacent to the advances and rigor of health-care.

Get out of there with that bullshit, they haven't "devoted their lives" to helping people any more than waiters and waitresses have devoted their lives to serving people. It's a good way to make a lot of money in a career field that will always be in demand. If you go to Africa and help give inoculations and save lives for no money, then you've devoted your life. Other than that, you're just doing it for the money.
I know many doctors and surgeons - some are lazy, some are incompetent, some have no real aptitude for medicine, many are good, some arrogant - a lot are arrogant, some are brilliant and caring. The majority do devote their lives to medicine - the decades of continuous training and battling through hospital politics and funding issues... (my wife is the brilliant and caring type)
i'm a young doctor and the money is good but i got into medicine because i was curious on how the body worked and what diseases and virus's do to us. It ain't about the money.
@Rommel1603 In the UK the medical course can take 6 years, followed by lifelong learning. Our starting salary is quite low compared to somebody who does a regular degree which takes 3 years, and pursues a career in investment bank for example. Investment bankers do not have the lifelong learning and rigourous exams to sit. Granted, doctors are not poor! But if you go into Medicine for the money alone... then you are in the wrong profession! It IS a caring profession.
What this guy is saying is all nice, but none of this stuff actually gets put into practice! Consultations with docs are the most blunt, short and dull conversations you ever have!
I guess it may have something to do with doctors trying to get away from that archaic image of doctors just simply being a clinician with a good bedside manner, as oppose to clinicians nowadays who are much more scientifically and evidence-based focused. I guess, put simply, doctors focus too much on treating the symptoms and neglect treating the patient.
