So, I've taken the Arp section, slowed it down. As we can see, it is half and half and was played that way on the record.

But there is one chord/shape, that is swept on the record, not Alt picked.

The E chord is swept. It is clear that it is swept on the record. All those shapes should be played sweeped.

4th chord, (1st string) - 15 -12, (2nd) 12, (3rd) 12 and back up.

Drop it into Reaper, play at .70 percent and preserve pitch. Be sure to use elastic pro.

It's pretty easy to tell what Petrucci sweeps versus alternate picks because he almost always plays sweep passages where he'll play the lowest note twice (once sweeping descending and then again as he ascends) whereas in TGP he doesn't Prob not 100% reliable info but seems to work most of the time.

I have been on stage (small stage, but still a stage), and I gotta stay that I sound a hell of a lot better in front of a crowd than I do in my bedroom. It is nothing but pure adrenaline up there. When I played the Tabernacle in Atlanta for the first time I had some nervousness at first, but then we did a soundcheck and once my tone came through the system all loud and powerful the nervousness was replaced by an overwhelming excitement. That translated into a better performace, both musically and physically.

If JP isn't right on his game, it can sound pretty average picked, hence why he sometimes reverts to sweeping - but when he does get it right, it sounds awesome picked.
