Can I ask, why didn't you take the left chariot with your golden bird at 0:16, it would've been sacrified to his knight but you had the prancing stag and the vermillion sparrow protecting it....

Promotion is by capture. Not all pieces promote, only about 1/3. Dai Dai shogi is the best promotion-by-capture shogi if you ask me. A fantastic fight which resembles chu in a way.
This is extremely sped up - if you're talking about the square mover at 17t that piece captured a range mover that entered my camp the previous turn. The details get lost in the high speed playback, unfortunately.

Yes. dalton1357924680; in this variant of Shogi this is not the case. Once pieces are taken they don't come back.
