We do have some pretty nice roads around here. Probably just about as good as it gets in the Mid Atlantic shore area. The country lanes are very lightly traveled. As to wildlife, the whitetail deer are the biggest problem. There are like a zillion of them! I've had numerous close encounters, but fortunately no impacts ... yet. Knock on wood! :)
I always try to avoid even freshwater flooded roads wherever possible. I rode through a few fords on previous bikes and always ended up replacing the wheel bearings shortly afterwards. Coincidence? Maybe, but now I don't take the chance.
Yeah, I will always try and avoid any kind of standing water myself. But I certainly went through my share back in the dirt bike years, and never had any wheel bearing issues. That I was aware of, that is!
yeh were not to bad in the north of the county but the south has been hit pretty bad and the county town enniskillen has the lake run through it in a few different places and also has been flooded bad!
i love the way you can ride so effortless and talk so easily when you ride lol you shoud try living in county fermanagh northern ireland , at the minute the lake that runs the whole distance of the county has put us underwater lol
Thank you for the compliment! I've been riding for a LONG time, so I guess that it's not that much of a stretch for me to do a bit of commentary along the way.
I just did a news search in regards to the flooding in your area, btw. Wow! Much worse than we've just had around here. Hope your house is dry!
That weather system was suppose to come over us, but didnt. We could have used the rain. Watching the news I actually thought about your area. Seemed like it was really getting hammered. Hope you didnt have to panic stop after coming over the bridge. Love that 919 sound..great job DP.
The Atlantic coastlines from NC to NJ got beat up very badly. A lot of beaches and dunes wiped out. Things weren't as dire further inland, though. A bit of high water was all ... and a video op for me!
I was pretty sure that road would be covered in some sections. And even in areas where the water had receded, there could still be salt residue left behind. Slippery stuff! I was riding with restraint!
I think you may have had higher water over on the western shore during that storm. The flat terrain and salt marshes on this side are more prone to flooding, though..
Whoa, that's crazy!! You think maybe it had to do with all the rain in the past few days? But I would be really scared riding through that as well...even though it does look really fun. But yeah, there are a lot of places that looks like that around here as well. Not always going in the road though.
More to do with extra high tides than rain. I just watched your flood / cold / dreams video, and thought we'd see some flooded roads in that one. That storm hit a bit harder down your way.
Tiger's invite for me got lost in the mail......I assumed he was mad so I stayed at home. His mom sent a nice cake and wished us well.......yea right!. haha
We escaped into the mountains and away from the crowds.
It's been raining like crazy here in the UK the past few days (In my city anyway) and everywhere has been flooded :( Had 80mph cross winds on saturday so i couldn't ride due to my light bike lol
I saw on the weather channel the other day that the south had gotten hammered by a pretty fierce storm. Must have been pretty interesting out in the Channel!
Yeah, it blew hard out of the NE for like 3 days, which kept the water bottled up in the Chesapeake. That and the low pressure made for some pretty high tides!
What a beautiful ride. Too bad it got cut short. With the trees so close to the road, any problems with wildlife?

...but salt water is especially good for your chain! You wouldn't have to lube it for like 3,000 miles! ;-)
What a gorgeous, awesome road.
lauriejennifer 2 years ago
Yeah, the protective and lubricating qualities of salt water have been lost on many people!
It is a great piece of road for sure. I just wish that it was about 50 miles longer. And maybe a couple feet higher above sea level! :)

Salt water, eh? Just spray oil all over your bike, including the brake rotors. It'll be fine :-)
That wind was something else, wasn't it? I thought my house was going to lift off. Good thing this isn't Kansas. Well not anymore.

I had to negotiate a few shallower sections of that salty flood water, and the bike got a right good hosing down when I got home.
Yeah, that was some storm. I'm just glad that I never lost electricity ... cable tv and internet, that is. :)

Are there alternate routes? I wonder if anyone got stuck out in the middle of the flooded road out there lol
ManOfMeans 2 years ago
I was able to take another route around that bit that I showed you, but I still had to ride through a few smaller flooded spots.
I didn't see any stranded vehicles, but I didn't attempt that crossing. There may well have been a couple out there!

Around my area wasn't too bad with flooding. But about 20 minutes east of me and on, flooded roads were a lot more common.

I have only not been able to ride because of high tide once, and it was due to a tropical surge on the gulf coast.
Good thing there is hardly any trees and lots of clear vision for you to see that coming!
britex3186 2 years ago
There are sections of that road where you can see a car coming from a half mile away. Not the water, though. I was taking it very easy.
Did you go out and watch Tiger play at Kingston Heath last weekend?

I've never seen that before, where you need to check the tide charts before going on a road!
I guess a bridge of some sort would not be justified unless a politician lived there. ;)
There's obviously nothing else for it but a trail bike, again!
brotherblonde 2 years ago
I actually do check the tide tables most times before riding that road. Even a normal high tide will have a couple bits of it flooded slightly.
An old dirt bike and a pair of Wellies could have made this video a LOT more fun! :)
dprider02 2 years ago
...And also, that road looks like alot of fun to ride on in parts, i like the look of the turns :D
