Greasy hair actually doesn't work as well. Really clean conditioned hair with minimal product is best for curling hair. Just use a heat protectant and it works great. And after you curl use a hairspray like "Big Sexy Hair" its an amazing hairspray that will hold curls all day. When your hair is greasy it makes your hair heavy which will weigh the curls down causing them to straighten out.
