  • According to my history book from school, most vikings were Danes, since it was the most populated area in Scandinavia during that time.

  • I've mostly got Irish and Scottish heritage, so I have to just take comfort in the knowledge that they're at least partial-Viking if you go back far enough.

  • i have viking heritage i geta hand disease they got! i will have to have my little finger amputated

  • really interesting song

  • Lot of viking history in Finland too, lot of ancient graves, lot of viking heritage. Just come and look... don't trust the swedes. They have a dilemma from the 1920's, when the whole country had an official politics of making Finns "mongol herds from far east". All that is just historical bullshit from the swedish propaganda of the era before 1809, when the swdish rule ended in Finland.

  • @AwynTheRedeemer

yea but didnt you came under russias rule then?

you just happened to be in the middle of the russian-swedish wars you cant help that

  • @zjoukov

Khrm.... We were not 'in the middle of russian-swedish wars', but part of it. Fighting, you know?

So, as far as I'm concerned, it really does not matter who was our slaver at those times.

I was talking about the viking era, and the swedes ability to use their own pseudohistory to shine their shields. Where did the vikings come, actually? Norway.

  • i can play those drums :)

  • Dios mío, siempre que escucho turisas se me pone la carne de gallina y me dan ganas de coger un hacha y irme corriendo por un campo gritando y brincando!!! jajaja

  • Well this was EPIC! :D

  • Turisas are kings.

  • sup with all the arguing on every fucking turisas song? Geez

  • masterpiece

  • I'm having mixed feelings about this. There's something about the synths that's so out of place. Real strings and horns would've taken Turisas into a new dimension. It's still pretty decent battle metal though, the finns know their stuff.

How did this turn into a debate about the scottish history? No need to fear you, I'm in love with your brews and accent.

  • @cockynoodle +10.... too bad i can only give one thumbs up.

  • turisas machd so geniali musig! afach extrem genial!

  • i like the beginning off the song the most it just sounds like its originized chaos then goes to awesomeness

  • The Scots are a people to be FEARED!! We withstood the might of the Vikings, and the Roman Empire, not to mention the English!

I don't think anyone really managed to take Scotland, until we became part of Britain, which can't have been more than a few hundred years ago. And we still have a degree of independence- 10-20 years ago we got our own parliament, and we've been growing ever more distant since. It won't be long before we are completely separate once again.

  • if you were a true scot you wouldnt talk about that disgrace of a building we call a parliament, the independence = great, the building = crap

    hail the scots!

praise be too mother scotland, where the sun always shines... in our minds...

  • I KNOW the building's crap, I've been in it and it's even worse inside. The point I'm trying to make is just what you were saying- independence = great. Oh, and we're not COMPLETELY independent (yet), so don't get too cocky!

  • Don't forget that the ones to finally take over Scotland and make it part of Britain was the Scottish...

  • Indeed, fear the mighty angry red haired people, sitting on a rock and smashing everyone with rocks and other tools of inconvenience who tries to get up there! :D

  • So the Scots are to be feared just because they can "withstand" things? Just because they can barely survive? What about the people who go on the offensive and force others into a position where they can only "withstand"? =)

  • @616Lilith: but this is a finnish band so fear US! :D

  • I love how someone says there part Viking. "Viking was the term given to the people of Scandinavia who were explorers, warriors, merchants, and pirates. And Varangain was the name given to the Vikings that traveled east to settle Russa and later live in Constantinopleas well some when weat to Greenland and Iceland. So techincally, anyone of Scandinavian, Russian, Icelandic or Greenlandic decent could argue that they are "Viking"

  • And most true British people do.

    Don't forget us!

We were conquored by the Vikings about 1200 year ago

  • Reply to MagnusBruce.

Acutally Vikings only managed to take a small amount of land in Celtic Britain, it was the Saxon mercanaries hired by romans and later by Celts to defend our coast that took Britain by betraying us.

And even then they never took the whole island, Cornwall, Wales, Scotland and the british isles managed to resist for many hundreds of years. These areas are still Celtic areas to this day and not Saxon.

  • Fair play - If I tried to call someone from Cornwall a true Saxon, or possibly even an Englishman they would not be pleased XD

But the Vikings did manage to put a few of their guys on the English throne...so they must have had a reasonable amount of control within the country. Although the exact definition of 'control' has got to be a bit hazy during this period.

  • Yeah seeing as the Government seems to be losig grip day by day.

It's a very touchy subject down here in Cornwal lol. I guess we're to proud of our history and Celtic bloodline, but then we have been defending it for over a thousand years, and we're slowly getting some amount of freedom back since lots of people here are reverting back to the Cornish language as well as speaking English.

    Sorry, I'm rambling xD

  • I doubt, like Wales, that Cornwall would survive on its own.

Not that I'm saying you shouldn't fight to be recognised, but there have been calls for Cornish independance which I personally think haven't been thught out too well.

There is however, and increasing urge for English independance and for Old English to be taugh in schools instead of French or German (much as Welsh is taught in Wales)

  • Unfortunately your right, Cornwall wouldn't survive as it doesn't have a strong enough economy since the government closed all the mines.

They are however starting to reopen the mines...slowly, so Cornwall is started to get it's economy up again, will take a long time but it will eventually be strong enough to survive on it's own in the future, but not for a very long time.

  • I did hear a while back that you were going to open the mines, but since then I'd heard nothing so I assumed that it had been deemed economically unviable.

It would be nice if England started producing its own materials again, although I very much doubt that Cornwall could supply the entire country for long. The same applies for coal in Wales and The North.

  • To think only the Danes managed to take over Britain. That's pretty sad. Denmark is like the bitch of Scandinavia, moreso than Sweden. Norway is the greatest of them all.

  • and your proud of this

  • to GrenadeAnestetic: huh?

  • Russian, only if they are from along the Volga and other large rivers used by the Viking raiders.

  • what about the anglo-saxons?

  • Sadly there is no true vikings to date

But their charictaristics live on in the hearts of many

  • I am, i live in a Forest, With my Viking community, we go on Hunts every night to feed our vilage and sometimes trek into Modern Society and Raid towns....for Gold of course.

  • wha the fuck?? i dont belive you

  • This is the dumbest argument ever... no further comment

  • x2 .

  • This song (and turisas and folk metal in general) makes me wanna be a viking o_o. I love it xD.

  • I think so too man ^^

    Hail the North \m/

  • You got me wrong. By being a viking, I meant living in the viking 'times', not having a viking heritage or anything. Besides that, there isn't much way you can deduct from a youtube account wether or not I do have that heritage. In b4 flamewar.

  • i aggre with you man, would be cool to be alive in the year 1000 and sail the seas as a mighty viking like Egill Skallagrímsson and Eiríkur Rauði

  • Well personally, I like having the internetz and air conditioning/heating, and not having to put my life seriously at stake on a daily basis. But I do know what you mean; this song just immerses you so effectively in that world, it's awesome.

  • yea same here. i just get carried away when listening to songs like this and it just comes over me then :)

  • agree.

  • Who is it in your eyes to say something that way? You know nothing of other people from the internet, maybe he is part viking? Maybe he isn't? Either way he has the right to pretend to be whatever he wants, without ridicule. Are you just stupid?

  • xauthubuntu, please do everyone a favor and kill yourself... -_- Who the fuck cares if someone has viking heritage, you can still enjoy the music.

  • Do everyone a favor and kill myself? Yes I do agree that anyone can enjoy the music. Its just when people who act as if they are Viking, or say how "Oh I wish I was so viking" that pisses me off.

  • hmm your flaming about ppl who have no viking heritage i think you dont even have a viking heritage if we go back 1000 years faggot... so pls piss off

  • well im not a PART viking fag. im FULL VIKING! ARG!!!!! you part viking skum shall feel my axes hot blade slicing your inbred innards!!!!

  • this far into the future from the viking days inorder to be full vikin you must be atleast 4 generations inbred or more. honestly a small group of people with mostly recessive gene traits requires an amount of eugenics and inbreeding. to say you are full viking would also mean you are like 1000 years old and that i doubt. seeing as viking isnt a nationality but a warrior class of skandinavian people. so please use more mean words like faggot and go on being an ancient sunburnt mariner. moron

  • No one is viking today... its like saying i'm part shaman or part farmer just because my ancestors were bound to hold one of those occupations. There were no vikings 1300 years ago and there were no vikings 850 years ago. What makes you vikings now? Just because you think its cool? .

  • @ xauthubuntu

whats wrong with wanting to be a vikin when u got no vikin heritage in u?

  • @gehaktbal21 judging from your name you are Dutch, and the Dutch were Germanic peoples if anything.. so close kinsmen of the vikings =)

  • @cilibinarii Yarr! That makes me proud being a Dutchman!

  • @gehaktbal21 If you are dutch you may have some viking hertiage XD

  • Exelente!

  • I LOVE THIS FUKIN BAND!!!!!!

  • The Choir=awesome ^^

  • 3:02 gives me goosebumps lol

  • omg true that! i was waiting for that part to see what you were thinking about and i got goosebumps haha.

  • awesome song, but totally aggree with you kingofbeer, holmgard and beyond is far better.

by the way, greetings from iceland, the true land of vikings!

  • its awesome.. but it gets nowhere near to holmgard and beyond

    still... truly amazing

  • algun català o español=?

  • i love the choirs in the background =D

  • One of my Turisas favorites. If you close your eyes while listening to this song, you'll feel the adventure of sailing the rapids; it really accomplishes in creating that sensation.

  • Totally agree with you, it's pretty immersive.

  • thats because of the sudden changes in the time signature it represents the swirling and unpradictable-ness of the rapids :D

    Its genius and incredibly musical.

  • Good song! Thanks for posting it. I can't say that it's among my favourites from Turisas, but it is still a good song.
