Before heated Mirrors were invented, we had the first glimpse of what was behind us when we went into the Mont Blanc Tunnel and our Mirrors defrosted.
we are driving through there I think on our way to Venice, but I hold my breath every time I go through a tunnel - will I be dead by the end of the tunnel? Luckily I won't have to drive through there, but just being a passenger, I will hate every moment. Would much rather go over the top, but suppose Feb isn't a good month to do this, or is it? Can anyway advise please?
Yes, this tunnel was infact closed due to the TUNNEL INFERNO started by a truck's air filter, later fuled by its ultra flammable contents - Margirine and a rifrigeration type foam. 33 killed. Very, very sad.
Been through the tunnel the past 2 summers (in car) and there are now strict safety rules, ie, keeping to ...50 and having a specific distance between you and vehilce in front, also loads of cameras all through so they know whats happening. (on one occasion we forgot to put top up on car, it is Sooooo noiisy!) Also I might be mistaken on speed, but you get the idea.

drove this tunnel in me locust, with fuel on dreggs... and a lorry sitting up me chuff. a pissed me pants for 20mins.....
