Netrockerg, you might as well be straightforward. Al and Chick, with jazz greats like Stanley Clarke and Steve Gadd, were in Return To Forever in the 70's. Worth checking out for new fusion fans. Also see John McClaughlin and Paco de Lucia, the other guitarists in the "Triumvirate" with Al for the last couple decades, more acoustic/flamenco stylings. Their rendition of Al's "Mediterranean Sundance" at Pavarotti And Friends is one of the greatest guitar performances of the age.
What a hoot! Forget about comparing greats and techniques for a moment -- this is a really fun arrangement/rendition. Having Fugata "thrown to the wolves" in a funky electric jazz fusion jam is a real treat, because these guys can play it and still have room to play WITH it :) I love the passing about and emerging voices of the various bits... I think this piece is as much about the spaces as the fills, and they make awesome use of both -- gives you room to smile and be part of the play.
I don;t know why there is such thing as a dislike button when it comes to Al Di Meola seriously who is gonna push that button if you do you have no music taste whatsover!
I can see what your saying in a way - his technique is quite vigorous and not always smooth but he plays the notes he wants on time and i presume in the way he wants - that's pretty good technique if you ask me!
al di meola rocks its so awsome hearing his crazy phrasing and out of this world fusion jazz whatever you want to call it hes so good! and alot of its on a clean channel hes so good
An outstanding performance by Al and his band mates. Al's rhythmic precision is a musical wonder that we have not seen before in any genre. This performance is a vivid example of that gift.
That´s is a matter of tasteIf some people likes alot Hammett playing, well is their taste and noone can argue that. Some like Meola, some like Kirk and some like both. I´m not a big fan of Kirk, but I understand that music is art and to say who is better is something subjective.
Being a matter of taste, it's also a matter of the level of complexity and musicianship which a person comprehend.
The music itself shows that Al is a much better musician and composer, technically and intellectually. But naturally people have their own preference, often regardless of what is actually better.
It's only subjective in the sense that someone can say Kirk Hammet is better because they like his playing style or the sound of his guitar or theme to his music. That is subjective.
Kirk Hammet is a very down to earth guy who has been studying jazz guitar since the early 90s, and he never pretended in interviews to be good, even for a metal guitarist. He's just doing his thing, he likes it and that's what matters. Besides, something tells me he worships Di Meola.
@SatanicSanta I'm not really questioning his character, I don't know the guy. Perhaps the arrogant, pretentious appearance is just an on stage act. God knows Al Di Meola can be an arrogant prick as well, at least that's what I've been told by someone who got to be somewhat acquainted with him. But anyway, I'll take your word for it. You just can't make accurate assumptions about someone you don't know.
@GDarkstar74 I agree, you would have to be a moron to even think kirk hammet was a better guitarist... Also you would have to suck so bad at guitar, that you have no comprehesion of jazz or fusion... like you would have to be so bad that you think neoclassical guitar is hard.
lol, drrojogochu, very commendable. At one point in time when I was 15 I listened to nothing but metal, real '80s and '90s metal, collected the best metal albums out there. but i didn't bother with anything after Ride the Lightning for Metallica.
It's funny trying to explain to some "metal fanboys" why Megadeth is much better than Metallica. No one seems to acknowledge the fact that Dave Mustaine wrote most of the tunes from Metallica's first 2 and best albums, and then they went downhill.
génial.

despite of him being obviously a huge musician, we have to pay respect to the root of such music. It's basically latin music

Also a very nice bass-solo!

Amazing concept, combining the classical 'Fuga' with Latin rhythms! Works out well for Mr. Al Di Meola, very complex tough...

The real gods of guitar are Al Di Meola. So fucking amazing.Just look at him grind that fucking axe.

Haha, yes.
And you should really listen to Megadeth's latest album. It's by far the closest thing to Rust In Peace, if not better.

Oh yeah Rust In Peach is my favorite, and their new album is pretty amazing in comparison to the crap that everyone else is putting out.
