This video looks kind of strange 13 months later, doesn't it? Last week the NFL announced it was cracking down on helmet hits. The reaction of the players was to be upset. So which is it? Are the players concerned about their long term health or instead do they want to protest any change to the status quo? Why do the players protest a proposed 18 game season because will be result in more injuries but then protest a change in helmet use rules that will result in fewer injuries?
Remember what a lot of people in sports ownership and a lot of players even say, "It's a business." That is true, but the players are human beings, not commodities to be sluffed off when their playing days are over. I think no matter how good the helmet, I do not think brain injury could be eliminated entirely. Not in a game where every impact can have the force of an automobile accident.
