Just bought a 4-car Blue Pullman (2 parlour coaches) at a recent train show. Bit of damage around the buffers on the powered driving van, replaced with bodyshell from spare dummy I bought. I've replaced all the non-driven wheels with Hornby 12.6mm 3-hole wheels, and I hope to either re-wheel the powered bogie with Ultrascale wheels as above, or replace it with a Hollywood Foundry powered bogie. Haven't made my mind up yet.
Hi I have a triang blue pullman got it for my birthday (1965 I think), still in spot on condition don't run it very often it dosn't like modern track ,sits in a siding most of the time but after watching your super video I am going to change the wheelsets and bring it back to life .
The trouble and angst to re-wheel Triang Pullmans, DMU's and EMU's is well worth the effort, especially as this improves the running and probably runs better than first released over 40 years earlier. Although it i a bit costly, it is well worth it - as the running of Stewart's model testifies!!
Hi Shaun I only replaced wheelsets which are obtainable from Ultrascale in the UK - there is a waiting list so you may have to wait several months before delivery and they are not cheap !
(but you get what you pay for ), thanks for the kind comments
Superb model, I've just bought a pair of the diesel units myself. About the coaches, are they a specific design, like the DMUs, or are they of a BR standard class? As I am finding it hard to procure the triang-hornby coaches, such as the parlour car, and if there is an alternative I might turn my hand at repainting some coaches instead.
Thanks for the comments. Hornby have just released R1093 The Blue Pullman set (unfortunately not the one we are talking about) but it does include 2 open seconds BR Mk 2 in nanking blue the same colour as the blue pullmans we have which could more than pass as extra coaches for these units, an expensive option to be sure other wise keep looking !! cheers Stewart
One month later, I have 4 of the DMU ends (two motorised, two dummies), and a single parlour, like yours - and one I picked up off ebay that has a crest in the centre on either side, with grey instead of white banding. So a 4-car unit is within my grasp, only two more needed to finish a 6-car set!
Well done, I have a feeling that Hornby or Bachmann are going to succumb to the pressure for one of them to reproduce the Blue Pullman eventually theres definitely a market out there for them
Have you had any problems getting traction with the ultrascale wheels ? I have used them in my Pullman but am finding that I need extra weight over the motor and there is not enough room.
nice layout

Hello there,
Really great to see you bring this beautiful train back to life.
After much mixing and matching I have acquired a 6 car set that runs on system 6 track but does not like peco points very much.
Looking at your vid it looks like you replaced the motor unit.
Could you tell me what motor you used and how you installed it without damaging the original fixtures?
Many thanks,
Shaun.

Dave, no problems in that area but I can see you would have problems trying to get extra weight over the motor,
