  • Epic..........

  • both songs entitled "substitute" are brilliant. i remember girls at school singing "ill be your PROSTITUTE" to this 1!

  • this video gives me claustrophobia

  • lovelovelovelove!!! aaaaaahahahahaa

me n my mates throw up oldies on FB to eachother all the time!!!! this was one tonight!! hahahahahaa :D Love it!!!!

  • Kevin Keegan started something with that bubble perm in the late 1970s. Great record regardless of the haircuts.

  • Very smart. "Substitute" also rached the Top Ten in Norway, Ireland, Italy, Israel, Sweden and Luxembourg, I found out some years ago.

  • At 1.55 she looks like Marc Bolan!

  • fuck. at 1.55 the look she gives is so horny

  • she so fucking sexy.love from sam .

  • loved this when i was a teenager...still do

  • Great song let down by a poor drummer.

  • Birds can't rock

  • tbh, i much prefered the who`s version ;)

  • @twistedsistaqteu hahaaaaaaa love it

  • I used to sing Prostitute as well!! I remember this coming on the radio years ago. Seems ''Sam'' was a popular name in the 70s? ((Olivia Newton John made a record called Sam as well))

  • great song love this

  • wow!~! forgot about this song... classiic!!!

  • They are South africans, i know the singer is my auntie!!1 lol

  • This is the SANITIZED version with all squeaky clean big hair ladies. I remember a really earthy bunch of rockers doing the original TOTP video. Anyone know where I can find it?

  • Happy days. What really makes me smile is that I reckon every school kid (myself & all my mates included) used to sing "prostitute".

Daft, inane, but we were just youngsters.

  • @bodsnvimto Yep... 1979 in Melbourne Australia every day it was "I'll be your prostitute..." we thought it was pretty clever.

  • great song mate sounds of the 70's

  • This song brings me back to the summer of '78 when i started listening to the pop music charts. I'm sure YOU'RE THE 1 THAT I WANT was #1 when this song was in the top 20. FOREVER AUTUMN was #2. 5705 was also in the top 10. Ahhh, happy days. Yes, we were entertained with REAL MUSIC in those distant days.

  • gret song from some sexy ladies. ah the memories

  • The Cally from Blake's 7 lookalike competition!

  • 15aramis5000 Im sorry to say i was sam? And i wrote the song while drinking Hoff Meister lager vintage 1978?

  • love the drummer! class act

  • Shes got a great voice

  • i never heard this song i stumbled across it AND I LOVE IT!! I WANT TO BE SAM!!

  • Fantastic

  • At 1:56 tell me that isn't Marc Bolan's twin sister... :)

  • @CURRYHOLIC1 - that isn't Marc Bolan's twin sister...;)

  • @uChakide Ah... the irony....

  • so glad we named our son sam

  • i still have this on vinyl 45

  • First time I ever heard this song ! Awesome!!

  • ¡¡muy buena la canción realmente...Me gusta!!!

  • Good song, great band.

  • great band!

  • Feckin' brilliant! Up there with Dusty's "Breakfast in Bed"...nearly.

  • What happen with this nice girls? Does somebody know?

  • I still have this song on cassette.

  • transport me back to the seventies please

  • childhood memories rock!!

  • If it weren't for YouTube, an American like myself would know nothing about this band. So glad I discovered them! Don't know why they never made it in America. It's a shame. They have some good stuff!

  • @LedWilde these guys were big briefly here in australia, I av a vinyl compilation with them on it. I was about 8 at the time & had a crush on the whole band!! Really was a grt time-4 me at least!

  • @battleship1969 That's cool. The guitar player with long hair I think is the hottest. Kim Wilde is another musician. She had some songs over here and You Keep Me Hanging On was a number one hit when I was 8 (I'm 32 now) but she still was never that big here like she was in Europe and other continents. Can't figure out why.

  • @LedWilde Kim Wilde is 1 of my all time favs, loved everything about her from the moment I heard Kids in america. It still rates as 1 of my best albums & in fact bought it on vinyl & tape so i cud play on my walkman on the go & at home. I loved chequered love & water on glass tracks also. saw her in the 90s at wollongong-australia when If I cant have love was big. her brother is a great guitarist as well.

  • @battleship1969 I love her! You lucky son of a gun seeing her live! :) Her brother is talented too. It is my goal, soon, to go to Europe and see her perform. First time I consciously heard Kids In America at age 14/15 I was blown away to say the least... This was in 1994.

  • @LedWilde if u can c her go 4 it, I ve spent lots of time n money on bands n dont regret it! madonna, cyndi lauper, bjork,u2,tori amos n great aussie bands like Divinyls 2 name a few- now I go to the wiggles with my kid!! Lmfao. When I saw Kim it was a smallish venue, I got up front stood against the stage, gave her a shout n got a wink as she sang the words " fly to cambodia"

  • The lead singer has a GREAT voice! Wonder who she is and what she is doing now or has done since this.

  • Everything in creation is a pretty tall order if you ask me.

  • The lovely smelling cloud of perfume and fish paste hanging over the stage. Eminating from 70's brilopads and the spotlight heat! Hmmmmm gorgeous.

  • god that keyboard player gives me goosebumps everytime I watch it

  • she looks like kay parker =) lol

  • loved that song and great to see women playing their own instruments

  • Clout reformed in 2005 with all original members except one, did a tour of South Africa to promote their "Since We've Been Gone" album (some new songs + re-recordings of some of the older favourites), lead vocalist Cindy Alter still has a fantastic voice, check out the tracks "Risky Business" and "Tender Love"

  • THIS IS MUSIC. None of that fag shit Amy Craphouse and Justin Beaver bullshit.

  • @jakemiller5000 I dont know about reall music. None of them played any instruments on this record. And they are miming

  • was on the first album I ever owned :-)

  • ill be your prostitute xD

  • @fsk192 Funny that was what used to come in my mind when I watched this song, growing up in Nigeria...lol. I actually can't believe I found this song. Iooked for this song on here last night, until I went to bed. I didn't know the name of the group. The good old days...

  • Oh, the hair! Sigh. Those were the days.

  • 1978 the best year of my life. best music for me growing up just started to get crushes on girls ! 14 years old brilliant i wish i could go back to this year . i was having a holiday romance in Wales when this tune came out .

  • I've always thought they were from the USA !!! But South Africa !!!

  • Spent many hours watching them live at various Hillbrow clubs many years ago - great then and great now!

  • jeez..I got a perm like this in 2nd year and it lasted till 6th year!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • they can be substitutes for me anytime great tune...

  • apparently the original was supposed to be released by gloria gaynor ,but got pushed on to the b side of i will survive when the record company heard the two !

legend also has it that these lovely ladies never actually played their instruments....

god i fancied the singer like mad when this came out - still sounds awesome today !!

  • another place, another time sounds even better today

  • Sounds remarkably like The Bangles? Did the Foxy Four emulate this sound?

  • pity, that they did not sing more similar , like that one very much. One of my favourites from my youth

  • one of the great lost bands of the 70s - what on earth happened to them? apparently gloria gaynor also did this song - its just a classic! thanks for posting it!

  • what a great song

  • what a great song

  • ..Its a Shame she had to become a Substitute though...all those Curb Crawlers...

  • The 25 people who dislike this legendary classic listen to fag shit like Justin Beaver, Krap$ha, Tokio Motel, Kimya Crapson and Amy Skankhouse. Fuck those 25 people.

  • what a record!!

  • there are pop comparing with the runaways

  • Good old memories... Thank you...!

  • song of the century

  • It`s a classic song!!

  • Great, thanks so much for posting. What a fantastic sound, I will by buying some of their tracks off iTunes.

Ha ha! Very Funny. Me too!!!

  • This is Good music!!!

  • this is one of the first singles i bought

  • woooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!

  • I practically wore my vinyl single out - used to leave the arm up on the record player so it would play it again and again. Now I can just put it on an MP3 loop!!

  • OMG , id forgotten about this one. Many happy memories of childhood when this song was in the charts.....

  • Really really love it since i was a teenager

  • I wonder how many of us wanted to be a "substitute" for someone..

  • Great, great, great band!!! So damn sad that they were better than the boys in SA. A lot of noses were put out of joint and that was the end of Clout. Their comeback CD was better than most young SA artists... but they were female...

  • one of the best

  • A Time When Band had to be able to sing,

  • I loved it then I still love it now ..

  • Sheesh this is taking me right back!

  • Ah - memories!! I had a crush on a Sam in 1978 (at the ripe old age of 14) and just loved this song. Thanks for posting.

  • Still brilliant after all the years, should have been an even bigger hit. Bass line is especially good.

  • Magnificent, one of a very few bands with only females as members to really shine when I was young. Great song, wonderful memories... thanks

  • One of the great South African bands.

  • " I'll be a Pros-titute,when ever you want me!!" am I the only one who thought this? Oop North a " Clout" is a lady's parts of shame - ha ha .

  • Diese LP habe ich immer noch :))) love it

  • LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

  • nice music

  • The 70's!! What a decade! What is with all this shite that today's kids are listening to?

  • @selfelin absolutely agree with you, even Sting mentioned something like that, we had great time in 70's & 80's ourselves!

  • @selfelin

Nostalgia huh? I think things haven't changed that much. We seem to forget that the charts back then usually had tons of crap and only remember a couple of Real Good Songs. Been like that since the charts were launched. I mean even in the fifties, the golden age of rock'n'roll etc., for every rock'n'roll hit there were lots of crooners that make you cringe.

There's plenty of great new music around, but you have to go out and find it.

Like you did when yoy were young - exactly.

  • I was in school in South Africa in 1978. The lead singer reminds me of my hot, hot teacher.

  • Fab - 32 years ago and one of those songs that brings all those great memories back! I loved this!

  • @GRAHAM5020 think about all the great music between '77 and about '83...punk,new wave, ska revival,electronic,...it was all there. It's defo my favourite era. There was also an all-female band called Rennaissance, the track was called Northern Lights. Another great song.

  • @woodster1965 Hi there...You are right there..i quite agree...Rennaissance were out at the same time with Northern Lights...1978 a fantastic year for music..liked the glam rock era as well.

  • @GRAHAM5020 Agree mate,78 was superb, also love 79,80 and 81,absolute brilliant years for music, didnt matter what you were into there was something for everyone, all of it good.If i had to pick my favourite decade it would be early to mid seventies to early to mid eighties, but these 4 years are particularly good.
