Anyhow, authors never kill off characters just out of chance or ill will. Snape's death was very deliberate, as a pivotal moment in the series-- it was a symbolic redemption for him, as well as the turning point in Harry's resolve to end the battle.

More than anything, Snape's death and the explanations that follow it prove him to be one of the most courageous and misunderstood characters within the entire series. It was, sadly, necessary.

@dragonfly876 although.. if you think about it.. it was never said that Snape actually "died"... all it said in the books was that his throat bled and that Harry and his friends left after seeing his chest stop rising.

There's still a chance that he was alive in many ways.. haha... hence the result is the large number of fanfictions that are DH compliant with him living on. :D

Besides, everyone thought that Dumbledore wasn't really dead, too.

It's great fun to speculate for the sake of fanfiction, of course, but in my mind I strongly separate the realms of solid canon and of ff.net. ♥
