  • ...give him a flea bath, quick!

  • i like the way the guitar player seems to be rejoicing throughout the song........an interesting juxtaposition.......was this intentional?

  • @posthumanhero Billy Zoom always said he was sick of guitar players that made it look tough. He's always smiling and making it look like he's not trying hard.

  • @alecat619 funny thing is it's [not] easy to do what he does..........i can't begin to do it and i've been playing for over 30 years.......rockabilly or duane eddy guitar is an art form onto itself.

  • this is shit!

  • 1st generation L.A punk rock. As good as it gets.

  • does john kick someone @ 0:41?

  • @Laminateddeffect

I think John Doe stepped up and stopped the mic in front of him from falling over, he had to use his leg to do so.

  • i love these guys. but that guitarist looks like some actor...lol

  • @nikotwasik

    John Doe is an actor.

    8)

  • @Thirdpres i thought so! yeah i figured that out later. scool. :B

  • @nikotwasik

Billy Zoom, however, isn't an actor...he's the guitarist.

  • This says everything about being young, wild and on your own in LA in the 70's and 80's...a certain desperation of the time...something new happening...change was in the air, radical and exciting.

  • Then for what ever reasaon I got drawn into the SoCal punk ssne of the early '80s...

  • Billy Zoom rocks! He's the engine of the band.

  • x is pretty awesome and underrated. Sonic youth reminds me of them.

  • Exene looks fucking hot.

  • @devann3 thats because she is

  • @devann3 I fucked her

  • Billy looks so funny

  • Saw X countless times -- first time in 1986 -- so you could argue I missed the hey day. But hell, they rocked. Jane's Addiction opened for them that night.

I believe this clip is from The Decline of Western Civilization Part 1

  • prophets from the eighties

  • SOME PEOPLE GIVE ME THE CREEPS!

  • If you get the album punk o rama 6, theres a good version of Exene singing this song with Pennywise as the backing band! Good song!

  • God they were GREAT! I miss them!

  • @ChyennaJewell

I'm seeing them next week in SF, two shows at Slims!!!

  • OMG!! I would LOVE to be there!! Send me pix : P

  • you're in So Cal?...what better reason to come up to the Bay Area for New Years (they are playing in Sacramento also) to see what may be the last X shows ever? Exene has MS you know. I just drove down to LA to see a special Ray Davies show with a band and choir and was very happy I did...

  • lol you were in L.A.?! ~waves~

I've been a devoted X fan since their first album was released... lol many many years.. But i still love them

  • just got my ticket for Harlows in Sac, make that the last 3 nights of the year filled with X...

  • Awe.... Great way to end the year!! I so wish i could be there... lol think of me while you're there.. I hope you have a GREAT time! Stay safe!

  • OH SH*T!!! I can't believe i just missed them! I saw them at the Cathay de Grande in, like, 1982. I'm older than dirt. Can you believe Exene and Viggo Mortensen were married back in the day? TRUF!!

  • You only miss them because you don't go see them. They killed in San Francisco this week. Dave Alvin sat in last night.

  • dave alvin?

  • only one of the baddest set of hands to touch a guitar..

  • Be nice if this movie would receive a proper DVD release. I'm sure the holdup

is because of some inane licensing issue. What crap!!

  • our whole fucking life is a wreck

  • fuckin awesome!

  • Saw this killer band play Disneyland on Grad Night 1985 -- or was I hallucinating. One of the best LA bands since The Doors.

  • One of the best punk song ever. These people really know what r'n'r means.

  • this fuck***n song is awesome!!

  • Its kiss or kill.

  • hahahaha great!

  • I rememba seeing them at teh Cathay de Grande. The bouncer didn't ask us if we were 21, he TOLD us we were. Fun drunky times!

  • Give him a flea bath, quick! For a least a brief moment in time, the best damn band in America. And I'm proud to say, my wife and I saw them more than we can remember.

  • Billy is deliberately doing his spaced out look while he does his killer guitar playing. He is making fun of other guitar players actually.

  • In 1984 I used to wear the "Los Angeles" X button on my biker jacket 'til a waitress at the Rat stole it! Love this band!

  • Could it get any better than this?

Raw Punk Power with grainy video.

Hell I'd live in a grainy video world if I could bask in that Raw Punk Power.

  • so them in NYC in may fuckin amazing

  • Exene sings like me when I'm drunk. She rocks!

  • If you sing like her, I'd hire you in a second!

  • 4realzies

  • They sounded just as great live as in the studio.

Heh, I wouldn't be surprised if Exene got some verbal ear-smacks from John on getting too close with horny testosterone-driven male moshers!

Billy Zoom looked very much the elder knowing participant amused by it all.

  • "Last night everything broke"

  • x had so much fuckin energy..what the fuck happened to creative punk rock bands like this????

  • Wanna know what happened from somebody who was there? The creative people who kept the scene going got tired of mindless suburban "rent-a-punks" who thought that the scene was about only dressing up like Iggy/Sid/Darby/Henry Rollins, busting heads and breaking shit. They moved on to different styles of music, different means of expression (film, cinema, writing). Some of them got jobs. Nothing lasts for ever. Creativity tires of caricatures and stereotypes. Life moves on...

  • Well said. This was just a bit ahead of my time, but looking back, yeah, everyone and everything grows, moves and changes. You can't expect to see X or The Germs from "back in the day" today.

  • people still ought to dance at their shows though. or at least make room for young fucks like me to dance!

  • Well-put. Thank you.

    It was fun, wasn't it?

  • @RATTTHEPUNK You're only thinking of MORE PRESENTLY "WELL KNOWN" BANDS... look at bands locally. I'm from Vancouver and we have TONS of punk bands with awesome stage presence and energy like this!

  • @SpikeyMcTurtle Can you give some name of good puck bands today that might have songs up on Youtube? Thanks!

  • @maxLeifermann I'll get back to you on that a little later. It depends on what kind of punk bands you're interested in - but Vancovuer caters to all types. No Fun City is a good documentary that's out screening across the world about our Vancouver Punk Scene (search it on youtube of course).

  • @RATTTHEPUNK You stopped looking for them

  • @RATTTHEPUNK : SOCIETY!

  • I saw them on Monday at Bakersfield, they might be 50+ but they still rock harder than any band right now

  • ITS KISS OR KILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this song, I love this song, I LOVE THIS SONG.

  • MAN X IS THE SHIT

  • This song connects with my deepest feelings on desperation for sure.

  • genius!

  • what an excellent song...

  • great song!

  • This song it´s so punk!!!, I fucking love it!!!

  • 0:25 lol

  • Exene Cervenka is a goddess. i love X and especially her so much.

  • I saw X for the first time June 3, 2008 in Houston, TX. I love this band and have wanted to see them but never got the chance. They were excellant, I have never seen a band connect with the audience like X did. That what made the biggest imprssion on me. Billy Zoom can still play a great guitar, and I met an old girl friend there who planted kisses all over me and told me she loved me. WOW! It was great.

  • I saw X last night in Atlanta. They played great as usual. Go see them if you can. Being near the stage when this song is played is a pretty intense experience. I can't imagine what it must have been like when this film was made.

  • I saw them in Houston June 3rd, they were great, wish I could have seen them when they first came out, but they are all still alive and have not sold out.

  • Pretty amazing is how it was, jdh.

  • oh my gosh i LOVE this songggggggg

  • Classic song, great band. This is becoming the theme song of the middle class, thanks to W.

  • John Doe was great in Roadside Prophet. Exene still has a glass jaw.Billy revealed that his spaced out look was deliberate mocking of guitar players.JESUS LOVES YOU! APRIL FOOLS!

  • I just saw them play this song live last night in Seattle. It was one I had forgotten, and it threw me or a loop. Billy Zoom is still doing his freaky shtick, and I wonder how many of those silver sgs he owns...cuz he had one last night. John Doe still looks good. Exene is still atonal as hell, but blends with Doe.

America's REAL punks and they're still ALL ALIVE!!! Catch them live before they are no more!!!!

  • Brilliant SoCal song.

  • great band, good times!

  • this song is damm good !!

only if she wasnt drunk shed sound better!

  • that's just Exene's schtick, she's really nice. When they played Sacramento in about 1981, they tried to get a meal at Sam's Hof Brau. The waitress told Exene she would have to comb her hair before she would be served (she had the long white streaked hair, was wearing an apron and raggedy ann clothes). We all held our breath. She looked so crazy, we thought she'd trash the place. Well, with a voice like a school teacher, she says to John, "Oh God, I don't need this.." and they left.

  • sick song.
