@posthumanhero Billy Zoom always said he was sick of guitar players that made it look tough. He's always smiling and making it look like he's not trying hard.

Anybody got a time machine I can borrow? I miss the late 70's and early 80's music...it was like basement bands from hell...loads of fun. LOUD, RAUCOUS, rock and roll baby!
This says everything about being young, wild and on your own in LA in the 70's and 80's...a certain desperation of the time...something new happening...change was in the air, radical and exciting.
Saw X countless times -- first time in 1986 -- so you could argue I missed the hey day. But hell, they rocked. Jane's Addiction opened for them that night.
I believe this clip is from The Decline of Western Civilization Part 1
you're in So Cal?...what better reason to come up to the Bay Area for New Years (they are playing in Sacramento also) to see what may be the last X shows ever? Exene has MS you know. I just drove down to LA to see a special Ray Davies show with a band and choir and was very happy I did...
OH SH*T!!! I can't believe i just missed them! I saw them at the Cathay de Grande in, like, 1982. I'm older than dirt. Can you believe Exene and Viggo Mortensen were married back in the day? TRUF!!
Give him a flea bath, quick! For a least a brief moment in time, the best damn band in America. And I'm proud to say, my wife and I saw them more than we can remember.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
some people give me the creeps...like all the people who have made comments about how great they were...sure they were great...they were desperate. I wish to be at this show sweating all over exene and most likely making Doe hornier knowing he goes home after the show and gets to insert his penis in her vag...lucky bastard
Wanna know what happened from somebody who was there? The creative people who kept the scene going got tired of mindless suburban "rent-a-punks" who thought that the scene was about only dressing up like Iggy/Sid/Darby/Henry Rollins, busting heads and breaking shit. They moved on to different styles of music, different means of expression (film, cinema, writing). Some of them got jobs. Nothing lasts for ever. Creativity tires of caricatures and stereotypes. Life moves on...
Well said. This was just a bit ahead of my time, but looking back, yeah, everyone and everything grows, moves and changes. You can't expect to see X or The Germs from "back in the day" today.
@RATTTHEPUNK You're only thinking of MORE PRESENTLY "WELL KNOWN" BANDS... look at bands locally. I'm from Vancouver and we have TONS of punk bands with awesome stage presence and energy like this!

I saw X for the first time June 3, 2008 in Houston, TX. I love this band and have wanted to see them but never got the chance. They were excellant, I have never seen a band connect with the audience like X did. That what made the biggest imprssion on me. Billy Zoom can still play a great guitar, and I met an old girl friend there who planted kisses all over me and told me she loved me. WOW! It was great.
I saw X last night in Atlanta. They played great as usual. Go see them if you can. Being near the stage when this song is played is a pretty intense experience. I can't imagine what it must have been like when this film was made.
I saw them in Houston June 3rd, they were great, wish I could have seen them when they first came out, but they are all still alive and have not sold out.
John Doe was great in Roadside Prophet. Exene still has a glass jaw.Billy revealed that his spaced out look was deliberate mocking of guitar players.JESUS LOVES YOU! APRIL FOOLS!
I just saw them play this song live last night in Seattle. It was one I had forgotten, and it threw me or a loop. Billy Zoom is still doing his freaky shtick, and I wonder how many of those silver sgs he owns...cuz he had one last night. John Doe still looks good. Exene is still atonal as hell, but blends with Doe.
America's REAL punks and they're still ALL ALIVE!!! Catch them live before they are no more!!!!
that's just Exene's schtick, she's really nice. When they played Sacramento in about 1981, they tried to get a meal at Sam's Hof Brau. The waitress told Exene she would have to comb her hair before she would be served (she had the long white streaked hair, was wearing an apron and raggedy ann clothes). We all held our breath. She looked so crazy, we thought she'd trash the place. Well, with a voice like a school teacher, she says to John, "Oh God, I don't need this.." and they left.
fuck yeah-- the only band better than X is BACKSTEET BOYS.
