@eddypikachu tool assisted speedrun. Basicly it stops the game at every frame and lets you decide what buttons must be pressed on that frame. Then it goes on to the next frame etc., by figuring out glitches and redoing parts untill the perfect route is found, perfect runs can be achieved. Then you can let the program play the game in normal time, using the frame by frame instructions resulting in super-human gameplay.

@jdavila08 Yes. it is "tool assisted". Still takes serious skills, but it's not "real". He is playing on a slow speed, then speeds it all up. He is also likely using savestates to go back in time if he misses a jump to then try the jump again.

@nutte3000: der trick funktioniert auch ohne tools. mach einfach einen langen sprung mit z und drück gleichzeitig nach hinten,wenn mario aufkommt, mach das gleiche nochmal. wenn du schnell genug bist, springst du rückwärts die treppe hoch. so kann man ohne tools das spiel mit 31 sternen durchspielen.

Long Jump Forwards away from the staircase, then constantly press A, and then nudge and hold the control stick the opposite way. It's hard at first, but if you're on Wii VC, and using the GCN controller, then you may have a button on it called 'Turbo', which, when you press it at the same time as another button, it will constnatly press that button when ever you hold it, which helps a heck of a lot!
