I just got a message that this will be taken from me. Matters not that I sent for this tape and Its by The Beautiful Music Company I think. It was on assortment of gospel songs [Copyright reasons]
@rufus3rd Her name was Bertha Lee Franklin and the shooting was ruled Justifiable Homicide. In other words, she shot him in self defense. Anyway, she died some eighteen months later. The other girl in the case, Lisa Boyer also was also found not guilty. In 1979, she was found guilty of 2nd degree murder in the shooting death of her lover, Louis Reynolds. She received a sentence of 2 to 5 years in a California prison. That's about all I know.
I sincerely hope that someone loves me enough to make sure this is played for me (many times) at my wake, when that time comes. I've loved Sam Cooke and this song, all of my adult life.
Oh no. It sounds great. I was just wondering if you or anyone had the live version that use to be on youtube. I wasn't being offensive by any means. I was just looking for the live version that day. But to say this came from a tape it sounds really good.
But thanks for posting anyway. It's good to here it live or not.
This is one of my favorites by Sam Cooke. Sam had a voice like no other! I've heard this song performed many times and nothing has come close to how Sam and the Soul Stirrers performed it!! Absolutely stunning!!

Reminds me of getting ready for church on Sundays in Memphis and listening to the great radio station, WDIA. Man, great memories! Thanks for posting!

That version sounds very much like the Soul Stirrers track
on the recording of the Shriner's Concert at the Oakland
Coliseum in 1955, a landmark event event in the history
of the black gospel (or as some say, simply 'gospel,' )
recording field. It's a double CD, maybe the label is
Specialty Records. Gospel was not the same after that
event.

Thanks for putting it up anyway. Thousands of people have been introduced to the gospel side of Mr. Cooke, where it all started.
