  • Argument from authority.

  • change the name of the vid to "Respected Engineer loses all respect"

  • Anything with magnets isnt free, the magnets are adding energy into the system wile they are being used up, the more use them the faster they are spent.

    its the earths magnetic energy

  • he had to set it so that is bullshit right there, its his energy he is using

  • Does it still work without the backing music?

  • Respected gold-fish saleman invents new method for cold fusion using only a watch battery and a bottle of cool-aide!

  • Seems that no-one noticed that he has to set the "weight" on the left at a high point, which is held in place by the magnet. When he taps the lever, it releases the magnet and the contraption converts the potential energy stored in the weight to kinetic energy.

There is absolutely nothing special about this, it's simple conversion of potential energy to kinetic energy, you can easily do this yourself: pick up a rock, drop the rock into water: wow, waves! Where'd the energy come from? magic?

  • For once, i have to agree with Desertpile, there is no overunity here, i've done all the tests on this. While the 'new' Orbo released this year uses toroidial coils to eliminate back emf (breaking Lenz's law, already proven) it would just mean a highly efficient motor, but no overunity. When i see one self-running (and no batteries!) then i will be interested.

That doesn't mean PMM's are impossible or that you can't get energy from magnets.Creating an imbalance in natural forces alows this...

  • Why are people so against, so negative about attempting to advance our knowledge and ability to better man kind? It is sad when you have people so upset over something that is just an attempt to better their lives. The laws of thermodynamics are important, but laws are created to be challanged. The beliefe that the eart was the center of the galaxy was believed to be undeniable for centurys, and people were killed over that debate. But, look where we stand now. Humility is a key in these days.

  • @founder3 yup its so funny how all these ppl that leave comments automatically regect it even though it is real.

  • @founder3 No one is against this. It is just very obvious that this thing won't move unless you poke or push it. When it runs on its own I will be a true believer.

  • I'll answer your question. People are not against advancement. The problem is, you must acknowledge that there are frauds out there. Lots and lots of frauds. Therefore, it is incumbent on persons making claims to prove their claims and withstand critical scrutiny. This is how science works. This is how science advances.

  • This "respected engineer" must have forgotten everything he learned in engineering school.... And elementary school, for that matter.

He must be waiting anxiously for his Nobel Prize in physics... I hope he literally holds his breath until then.

  • Typically, when somebody is wearing 2 watches I tend to believe whatever they say.

  • im truly underwhelmed

  • How come it doesn't work as a model?

  • Yeaeh.... I wonder how he measures the energy that's coming in if he moves the machine using he's hand and then it stops :]

  • Respected Engineer? Respected by who - Steorn? Come on already - if Steorn had ANYTHING that worked we would have all seen it a long time ago - believe me...

  • that's not the best demonstration in the world.

  • He touched it, and it moved, and it went clunk clunk, thats a very persuasive demonstration.

    I believe.

    I believe.

    I believe.

    I believe.

  • Surely nobody could be stupid enough to fall for this bullshit.

  • Amazing how many respected doctors applied to be on the jury. However, I noticed right off that the technician was adding energy during the release.

  • "However, I noticed right off that the technician was adding energy during the release."

Of course if energy was not added, it wouldn't spin.

  • The engineer thinks he's only lifting the small weight and when it falls through the field it lifts the heavier to the same elevation. But what the engineer is really doing is lifting the weight and twisting the field (see my video on twisting fields). If he really wanted to prove something, he would have used the big weight energy to reset the system :D (Now I know why the turned down my application)

  • Science and knowledge have been created by intelligent, ingenuous and creative men, who all somehow applied intrinsically a scientific methodology: observation, problem, theory, experiment, conclusion (and perhaps rewriting a theory), but this discussion is useless here, because this Steorn guy surely no "out of box thinker" who came up with sth. new, but simply a criminal, an embezzler of money! Hihi ... but still enough monkeys especially on CrapTube who support him

  • Why do you need microscopes to work with magnets? Plexiglass and gold thingie is FAIL.

And what's with the two watches?

  • If he gained energy he could feed it back into the model to reset itself. The only thing stopping that from happening is REALITY.

  • If only we could turn internet arguments into energy. ...nevermind, that's not a world I want to live in

  • Man, after we find out that energy being created excessively for the past... what 100 years of burning coal? We would start making radio station and send energy out to space to prevent global warming.

  • your obviously a gimp tooosweet. he says, you gain more energy than you put in, not that it's perpetual. so more energy was produced to move the little magnet, than was initially used to move the bigger magnet.

  • If he says that he gains more energy OUT than what he puts IN then that is PERPETUAL, or has the ability to be. Face up to it 'ThebigTH' this guy is having you on. Don't be surprised if he asks for more time & money for the development phase!?*

  • BRAIDERMAN, your a fool. watch "Free Energy another Inconvenient Truth". there is more technology on this planet than could ever be imagined, but its idiots like you that allow it all to be concealed because your too ignorant to believe that maybe we were wrong in the past. maybe some of our "laws" of physics are wrong, and that we never fully understood them. what about a car that runs on water? it exists! but you wouldn't believe in it, unless it fkn ran you over!!!

  • Hey 'ThebigTH' don't take things so personally - stay cool. If we wish to discuss physics / metaphysics, or anything - then we can discuss and dispute without resorting to such harsh language. And if others disagree with what we say, then that's okay too - because we have 'freedom of expression & freedom of thought' in our democracies. Chow for Now 'ThebigTH' and "Thing Big'!

  • God Blimey - another Aussie??

  • yer you're right. sorry braiderman.

  • No... Stanley Meyer's "water engine" was proven to be a fraud. He admitted so in open court, and was convicted of defrauding investors. He just used simple electrolysis.

If this Steorn technology worked, people would be rushing to build prototypes to power their homes. It wouldn't be hard, and you'd see companies selling similar designs cropping up left and right.

  • "He just used simple electrolysis."

Unfortunately there are a great many more similar scams.

The "Steorn 'technology'" is, of course, a fraud.

  • Would it be possible to arrange a suitable place and time to be run over by a car that runs on water? I'd be willing to fly anywhere in the world. I'm dying to believe... literally.

    Ignorance is bliss.

  • give me a break, he lifts the weight up, and releases it with that trigger. Then he has to reset it by lifting the weight up again. :|

  • There is also a lot of confusion about "Free Energy" Some people think that 'free energy' means that it must be be 'free'- that is - must = $ zero. But in the Physics World, 'free energy' relates to over-unity machines & perpetual motion - an impossibility. A silicon solar cell may be delivering cheap electricity, but that IS NOT "Free Energy" as we should talk about it.

  • A lot of the previous comments have talked of the possibility of blocking the magnetic field. Well you can't! All you can do is to distort the magnetic field and deviate it. That is what magnetic shielding does. The shielding inside a HDD draws the field into it, and leaves very little magnetic influence on the other side of it. BUT the catch is - to insert this shield into the magnetic field you hsve to do work -that is- you have to expend energy. You also have to expend energy to remove it.

  • This so called accomplished inventor & engineer can quite freely talk about getting more energy out than what he puts in !? And he doesn't even raise an eyebrow or blink !? Yet if he is so accomplished he should know that what he is saying would leave the physics world agog !! Something like Jesus walking on water up the Thames River on his second coming. Yet this accomplished Engineer doesn't even raise an eyebrow. Pretty darn unbelievable I reckon - the whole thing is a sham !!

  • the whole thing is a sham? your a tool mate. this concept does work, and yes it denies the law of conservation of energy, that's why it is so amazing. but it has been used and demonstrated many times.

  • Hook up a "real world" load and show me...goole "Smithsonian Museum Perpetual Motion Machine"...

  • If its "perpetual", why does he keep having to start it over and over again.

  • Well yes, so you need a huge amount of energy to prepare the material and magnetize it, not to mention tackling the "finite" supply of "rare earth" materials...

But I guess what we are talking about here is a perpetual motion machine, and even with the power stored in the magnets and gravity assisting, this doesn't work.

All we have is a guy who we are told is respected, surrounded by props who claims to have seen it, but can't demonstrate it do one revolution. Not impressed, sorry.

  • There is no power stored in the magnets, that's a rampant myth on YouTube.

  • So why do we not see the thing working?

  • free energy is good and bad, MAINLY BAD! it's good b/c you save shit loads of money over the long run but it's bad b/c u put out every sing;e gas station and energy company out of business.

  • poor fellas, watch out for the evil oil companys.

  • I'd like to see the measurments taken in these experiments and all the non-trivial variables. Things such as, did you take into account that you consumed some gravitational potential energy from one of the counter-weights?

  • Why don't any of these people use their "over unity" machines to power a small community and prove that they work. The initial cost could be very quickly covered, or raised from true believers, and after a proof of real-world application you will be so rich that Bill Gates will use your name for his next OS.

    Bunkum of the first order.

  • I don't get it. Perhaps I'm dim. If these worked, you'd simply build a big one, or a bunch a small ones and power stuff with it. There'd be absolutely no question if these worked. You wouldn't need any scientific verification or research because they'd just sell the energy they'd produced and grow rich.

    Something doesn't add up.

  • the only thing that this machine produces is theory. they claim something huge, but seem to have such an incredibly weak device that they can'nt even measure it to prove that it is overunamic much less perpetual. the retards need to generate energy from the device then use it to trigger the needed action to opperate it, they seem to be too retarded!

  • for all those who believe they have a true fundamental understanding of the universe

watch this and use your imagination

"Brian Greene: The Universe on a String"

    on youtube

don't be to sure about everything you've been told

more so when it threatens untold billions of

    profit

    ;)

  • Oh for all that is holy...

  • respected wanker once again proves that all these perpetual energy machines SEG .Steorn etc are a crock...just get over it, they dont work they're not going to solve the energy crisis

    we're fucked !!!

  • Good Call

  • Is a fake because this device in this video doesn't run!!!!

  • I fail to see the free energy. What I see is the guy putting two flywheels in position on either side of the device, and letting them go. He's putting the energy in manually.

  • Yea, but it can run on its own with magnets. The thing is that it can be set off, like in a factory or generator, and continue to use it's own magnetic force to continue energy.

I large scale one, or multiple ones of these working together...that's the miracle..."free energy."

  • yep if only it was that simple you'll notice none of these so called "over-unity or free energy machines are ever demonstrated under load as soon as you try to convert the momentum into energy to power a device they slow down very quickly and stop

  • Is the point not simply that magnets contain energy? They are a kind of battery. Eventually the energy will run out (the magnetism is gone). There is no breach of fundamental physics laws, just a the discovery of a new energy farm. Perpetular motion it is not, however.

  • uh no, he's saying more energy is coming out then put in, this isn't a magnet wears out debate, the spokesperson already said it will only last until it wears out

  • Magnets do NOT use energy when they attract/repel. They are NOT a kind of battery. Just look up magnetism on wikipedia.

We talk about a magnetized object having a higher energy state than an unmagnetized object because there is some energy associated with the internal order of having aligned magnetic domains, however a magnet is not a battery, and is not "using up" energy when it attracts something.

  • Magnetism is not infinite it can be exhausted.

  • How? There is not needed any energy to maintain the static magnetic field. Once you line up the magnetic domains inside a ferromagnetic, they produce a magnetostatic fleid which will be maintaining themselves.

  • How do you think you magnetize a ferro magnetic field...expose it to a prolonged magnetic field, usually an electro magnet...that's how magnets are made!

Simple experiment rub a nail with a magnet, it becomes a magnet...but it won't last!

Some materials are better than others for holding a field, some are natural formed by the forces of the earth, all are finite and took a lot of energy to create...not "free"

  • Yes, that's how magnets are made, but it's what I exactly have said. You need energy only to create a magnet.

Nail will last, shorter or longer depending on the material, it might last even as long as still magnets if it was made of neodymium. It won't last forever because of random thermal vibrations which destroys magnetic domain alignment. It's energy leak.

"Simple" experiment: magnetize a magnet frozen near 0 Kelvin and check how long it will be magnetized [if your life will be enough ;J].

  • Magnets contain energy. It may be possible to produce a machine that remove the energy from the magnet an transfer it into another form of energy i.e. movement. But so what you would end up with a less powerfull magnet, i.e. it has lost some of it magnetic field. its a complete waste of time. Think how a magnet is made you take a piece of metal and wrap it in wire and pass an AC current through the wire. You end up with a magnet and a dud battery

  • do permanent magnets get less powerful after they are asked to do work?

  • some say they do but its not correct, permanent magnets are called permanent magnets because they work for a very long time. a good neodynium magnet may last up to 100 years even if its used daily, dont believe the skeptics, research panaceauniversity(dot)org

  • Sorry that was a knowing question I asked... I was curious to see what lumsdot answer would be like, certainly they can do a vast ammount of work before they die, the problem with this whole issue is the complete misunderstanding of the basics by people, how many times have you looked at clips on you tube and thought immediately you're wasting your time!! these experiments are often comprimised by a lack of precision and external effects.

  • "The process of validation that has resulted from this challenge is currently underway, with results expected by the end of 2007."

Sure, it is now more than TWO YEARS since the "Steorn Challenge". You don't need a gaggle of scientists to verify their 'technology'. The whole thing is a scam so half a dozen dudes can sit in their rented office, collect paychecks compliments of their duped investors, and surf the net.

  • I'm on your page. If this could make electricity, they could prove it in one hour.

This is fraud, and they know it, but they can claim ignorance so it's legal.

  • This gentleman, who is - according to the video's description - an inventor has not one patent in the EU or the Netherlands. Nor does his name appear on a Lexis people search. Call me cynical but...

  • If this isn't a very persistent financial scam, then it's probably a social-control experiment from Tavistock.

In either case, it's completely outrageous, nonsensical rubbish.

  • we havent heard anything from steorn for three months whats happening

  • It is however an interresting social experiment though to see how readily people will discredit age old theories, comparing people's trust in old time heros (such as Newton) with modern day "experts" who should be more knowledgable having had all the work of these previous guys to learn from.

  • The movements produces from flicking the catch obviously require more energy than is put into the system when that guy flicks the catch. However it's not hard to see where that energy comes from; the weight on the left hand side of the upper axel that has to be reset every time (good old E=mg(delta)h). And the problem with magnets is that (in repulsion) it requires axactly the same energy to bring them together as they release in separation.

  • What a bad joke.

  • I agree, the hairy gorilla thing was stupid.

  • A hairy gorilla poking at a delicate gadget hardly illustrates free energy.

  • agreed, hairy gorillas dont make decent engineers. good observation. I will keep that in mind next time I am at the zoo.

  • SHILL!!!! Sean, you sleazy biatch!

  • "further validates"??

this guy is a watchmaker, not an engineer.

  • It would suck less, if they showed how the machine powers itself, but it simply stops, proving nothing.

  • If this is real I am going to piss my pants

  • I know. Me, too. Isn't that awesome? I bet some really rich oil people are, too.
