1) Replace the stock speaker. It's pretty weak tone- and volume-wise. I got an Eminence Ramrod, myself.
2) Use an amp attenuator. It sounds best about halfway up, but that makes everyone (sound guys, loved ones, your ears, etc.) hate you. A Hot Plate or Power Soak will regulate the volume while giving the best that tubes have to offer.
It doesn't sound like a 6L6 amp to me. Why is that? It really has an EL84 flavor on every demo I have heard. It compresses and saturates like EL84s. With a pair of 6L6s in P/P and 3 12AX7s I would expect a JCM800 kind of sound.
@LeviMan2001 I think the preamp voicing has a lot to do with it. They seem to have been trying to copy a classic fender circuit, but it came out sounding like ..........
Can't put my finger on it really, just not what I expected.
@punkeratheart It sounds like a pignose! Also I just saw some fool commenting on a silvertone amp-in-case video. I don't know who he was, but I sure hope he realizes how much of an ass he made of himself. He obviously hadn't realized that most tone is in the amp and player and that wood does not matter very much. If you ever meet this bloke, let him know that I might a guitar out of steel and it sounds fine. In fact it's rather badass.
@LeviMan2001 So did you simply read the comments posted a year ago by this bloke, or did you listen to the video? Wire the same amp up to a 2x12, and put the same pickups and hardware on some alder and a maple neck, and I promise you, the sound will be a lot better. There's a small fringe element of "it's NOT the WOOD!" people. They claim most luthiers agree. MY EARS AND I grew up around luthiers, like my dad. They all say the opposite. Try a P90 on a fat-strat, then try it on an SG. Same sound?
@LeviMan2001 Oh and by the way, I bet a guitar made of steel has an interesting sound. Kinda like the effect of the steel bridge plate on a tele, only magnified. That isn't the same as chip-board, nor is it the same as playing through a glorified tweeter. Yes, "tone" is very much in the fingertips, but if you make two guitars with the same neck, hardware, and electronics, but one with alder, the other with mahogany, you will hear the difference. That's why use wood to make high end guitars.
Hey man nice vid! I've been looking at all sorts of custom amp builders to make me an amp sometime next year but, thanks to your vid, i think i'll just check out that Pignose! You nailed the Neil tone with almost none of Neil's effects and you did it with a freakin' Tele! Again-thanks for the vid, i think you just saved me $1,500.00!
...there are better demos of the Pignose G40V on here....

@SpiroGir0 So What? I was like 14, it's not the best playing but you get that idea.

I have one and I love it. But this video's sound is not ok. The amp is much better than this.

@punkeratheart Beats me, it is for sure a 6l6 amp though. I have since put in baldwin 12ax7s and two RCA metal cased 6l6s.
