the thing that keeps the neck more stable is not necessarily the volute, it is more in the method in which the headstock is connected. the volute has become a selling gimmick for many guitar companies. what really matters is how the headstock is joined to the rest of the neck. just a little tip from an aprentice luthier.

I own a Michael Kelly Patriot Decree, its is a very nice guitar, i would'nt trade it for a les paul ever, i've played 30,000 dollar les pauls and they just do not hold up to a MK, sorry gibson fans, but your dumb....Mine is a cherry red wood finish, pickups give feedback on loud settings on your amp, put some emg's in it, you'll never be happier :D

If you've got money to burn buy a Gibson tho I doubt it'll be any better. if you want a top guitar for a great price go for one of these. I really fancy one of these. My friend has the Custom and it's awesome, all the way through the Rckfield pickups are top drawer and the feel and build of the guitar is pure quality. I'm sure these guitars will become very saught after and more expensive. Sexy looking guitar in Black. inmo.

I have worked on a lot of Michael Kelly's (there is no one named Michael Kelly) They are pretty guitars with a lot of cheap components inside. Very cheap hardware. I would purchase a similar priced Ibanez or a Washburn that are available with brand name pickups & gotoh hardware. They make a very nice Mandolin

I have the MK Patriot LTD w/Spalted Maple top. It is a great guitar for the money. The 24 3/4 scale neck has a nice feel and great action. It has a very nice classic LP sound out of the humbuckers. The coil tap also give a really good blues sound especially on the neck pickup, very SRV. All in all its a very versatile sounding guitar with a great feel.

No, I have no idea personally as I've never played a Michael Kelly axe. I know what you're describing though, if the frets are rough and unlevel, they play hell with your fingertips. Agreed. I just can't speak for this guitar.

On the decree, the phoenix, and the glory, they are absolutely perfect (as in "as good as your average PRS" perfect). The standard, black, classic, and zebra I'm not sure (I've never played those models.). On the decree they're very nice, though.

That is called the action and it's different on every guitar. You could get a bunch of that same guitar and they would have slightly different action. And the nice thing is you can adjust the action. So even if you got that guitar and you didn't like how the action is you can take it to a tech and have them adjust the action or you can learn to do it yourself.

hmmmm thats a tough one.....Washburn M-20 explorer copy job like the white one in the old Robert Palmer video? I've seen one dubbed the Instigator from Boogie Street Guitars. Nice lines sort of a Carvin X, meets a Jackson Kelly with a more radical body horn.
