  • pretentious of me to say this is brilliant? i don't fucking think so.

    brilliant tune, brilliant band...

  • god...brings back so many flashbacks...brought this in 1990...it transports me back to my student digs in bournemouth, great to listen to grounded or high...i was very high back then, but grounded now and it still has the same effect.......awesome original and the founders of the name "Shoegaze".

  • why they received bad press (according to wiki) is beyond me. this is a unique sound they created. and the press, the press ruined it. they did not get it.

  • @americandiscocrash

The press didn't ruin Slowdive. Their first album wasn't liked very much (and to be honest, I don't really like it either). Souvlaki was given much better reviews. There was just a marketing disaster that meant they didn't get as much attention as they should have.

Pygmalion was a huge "fuck you" to Creation and Alan McGee, shocking considering it's a quality album.

  • what is the name of the song? is it slowdive slowdive? another song that saved me from the brink of something. the unspeakable. i think a night of beer and cheetos. but it saved me nonetheless. unfortunately my neighbor was broken into, i suppose rooming with a junkie has its price, so why she knocked on my door instead of have the police check for her junkie room mate that moved out is a good question. one i did not ask. but that was 1992, the year i was saved from the unspeakable.

  • resurrect them!!!

  • It was truely ashame! I never knew of this band until June of 1994,(you know - the awe of seeing them live),

  • fucking amazing track....brought this in 1990...that whole period was amazing for

innovative new music....also has inspired the likes of "I Break Horses" and "A Place to Bury Strangers", those bands are pushing the genre to new levels.

  • this sucks when you're not high

  • @whatupmaaan if you need drugs to enjoy this, you might want to kick the habit lol

  • @goodbye41 nahh its just a personal preference. its only good when high or like 2 AM

  • @goodbye41 i thought so...but when i tried to hear them when I was high it was completally diffrent...it's like an orgasm...I thought i was having sex with god, i swear...

  • @whatupmaaan inhale more...more...more....YOU IDIOT

  • Slowdive - Making my life worth living since 2008.

  • @pissliv making my life worth living since 1993

  • TIME TO SAMPLE THIS AND MAKE SOME MONEY

  • it has a sad, but yet a badass feel to it. oh slowdive, how i love you.

  • no bigger slowdive fan than me , them and the stone roses and ride , fkin amzing times...

  • Best song to listen to when the morning light comes through ur window

  • i listened to them for the first time at my dad's house drinking mexican coca-cola and reading comic books, just relaxing. it was really quite nice

  • Masterpiece of all times.

  • THIS IS WHAT HEAVEN SOUNDS LIKE

  • Pale Saints will always be my favourite 'shoegaze' band. But I also love MBV, Swallow, the early Boos stuff, Lush, Curve and US acts Bowery Electric and Southpacific.

  • @busterabcat southpacific and bowery electric some of my favs as well :)

  • I saw this lot twice in Holland ca. 1992 (Apeldoorn and The Hague), unforgettable shows. Shoegaze is to this day my ultimate music experience. I don't know which I love the most, either Slowdive, Boo Radleys, MBV, Ride, Chapterhouse, Lush, Curve or Moose. Or Bleach, or perhaps The Charlottes.

  • Monumental riff !

  • ...then i took a slow dive..

  • these new bands try to recreate this stuff but can't. new generation needs something new.

  • kemicon, sorry you're not getting it. No, really, sorry mate.......

  • So happy I grew up in the 80s and was in my 20s in the 90s. Shoegaze fell into my lap in the mid to late 80s and it has been a staple ever since.

  • @ditimely So jealous. I'd give anything to have been a teenager in the early 90's.

  • I love to crank this as loud as possible on my home stereo. The louder it gets the more chills I get.

  • This could possibly the best song ever. And i'm not joking its up there with Bach's cello concerto no.5 ,a day in the life ,losing my religion and tangled up in blue.

  • Masterpiece.

  • this track as the sun sets behind the palm trees and turns the white walls of my bedroom orange

  • A monumental riff

  • Imagine floating off into space...

  • i lost in it wuuu wu wuuuuuuu wu wuu uu wuuuuu wuuuuuu wuuuuuuuuuu wuuuu uuuu wuuuuu ....

  • these were amazing live the best shoe gaze band

  • this is boring.

  • @lionheart10100 what do u ussually listen to?

  • @greeneups im a hardcore punk kind of guy, but i listen to tons of indie shit, like menomena. really good band. i wasn't trying to be an ass dude, sorry.

  • @lionheart10100 you werent being an ass at all. Its cool man, everyone has different tastes in music. I like shoegaze for its repetiveness and the doped out/ slowed down feeling you get while and after listening to it

  • @greeneups cool. i can respect that man. maybe if there was a build up in this song, i would like it more. but i do love the way they recorded this. no age seems to mimic the same style, tons of reverb.

  • @lionheart10100 reverberation is my favorite thing in the world!

  • fuck mbv... slowdive is and always will be my favorite shoegaze band!

  • This is unbelievable. My current most listened to song.

  • I love to watch the sunset to this song.

  • i have no idea someone would dislike this

  • @sayatakpunyanama: because it's not to their taste.

Personally, I don't understand why anyone watches videos/songs they dislike. Everyone's taste differs, but someone going out of their way to listen to something they don't like is mental.

  • @RHutton2710 I think they try new things or maybe they like the band but not this song

  • @RHutton2710 I can see where you're coming from...but in a manner of speaking, you're basically saying people aren't allowed to explore new music. If hitting the [dislike] button is that big of a deal, then putting it there would be a waste of time, right? Wouldn't that also defeat the purpose of putting the [like] button there?

Not that I'm pointing fingers at anyone, but I think that the premise of "if you don't have a positive opinion, then voice your opinion" is bigotry at it's finest.

  • good! thanks slowdive! from back in the day!!

  • i know everyone bangs on about it, but the term has more to do with not being the best musicians and haviing to look at the bass neck or guitar neck all the time to make sure you were playing the right notes! And not wanting to see any bored faces in the crowd.

  • This track eclipses anything by MBV, lush, Ride, Chapterhouse, Catherine Wheel et al.... simply stunning! <3

  • @williamgooner nope...its good but doesnt top MBV...haha.

  • I was looking for a band similar to MBV but I didn't expect THIS!

It might as well BE them!

  • check out 'Hello@ by 'For those who know'

  • this type of music needs to comeback and live simple again.

  • as soon as a ocean becomes new, the whole being is consumed..

  • awesome, so simple yet so melodic and beautiful. :D

  • when you close your eyes.this song is like being on DMT.

  • This is the masterpice of shoegazing !!!

  • I kicked off.

  • Comment removed

  • also soon by MBV is also up there as the best of this genre

  • @seriousmachines Soundpool and Sway are also pretty good, they're nu-gaze, but fantastic bands.

  • Absolutely love this band ...we opened for them and Blur and the girls were really awesome even when Damon was being a turd

  • Where has this band been all my life? I never heard anything like it.

  • @BeatleFan93

we just havent searched hard enough....

  • @BeatleFan93 yeah, howcome there are all these great musicians out there , and we are stuck with only the sucky ones we hear about on TV.

  • @kreep182 Exactly! The radio stations rather have played shit like 7 mary three and bush than stuff that is way more buitiful like this. I have never understood it. they must have been sucking the stations d---s or soemthing? I dont understand it. Bands like this, my bloody valentine, and medicine got no play what so ever.

  • @frightnight78

Be happy about that. Trust me, you wouldn't want your favorite music flooding the radios; it kills it. Let people who enjoy mainstream music go to the radio to hear the same songs played 100x a day. Let us who enjoy the small cult bands listen to it and feel cool that nobody else knows about it.

  • what is shoegaze?

  • @justinsanesaid12

shoegaze is a genre of alternative rock that creates atmospheric textures of mainly effected pedal guitars and soft vocal melodies. the actual term "shoegaze" originates from the earlier 80s UK bands that were too nervous to play in front of crowds and would look down upon their feet (hence shoegazing)

  • @someguitardude ohhh... interesting. i like it :)

  • @someguitardude i thought is was when you are listening to this ddreamy music and you gazing at your shoe

  • @someguitardude as far as i know, the first part of your answer explains the second. because half of the instruments go through at least one pedal (usually more) the musicians had to look down more frequently than not in order to get the right pedal, and not step on pedals without meaning to. They therefore tended to gaze at their shoes -> "shoegaze" (for an example, just look at Brian Aubert from Silversun Pickups)

    - you won't be a band for long if you can't perform in front of a crowd.

  • @someguitardude It got the name shoegaze because band members (guitarists mainly) have to focus on the pedals at their feet. Its not a magical genre where every musician is shy.

  • amazing! slowdive is my favorite band along with cocteau twins and grouper

  • I could listen to this song all day long.

  • Reading the lyrics it seems as its about suicide just as your falling you accept and embrace it this is such a beautiful song 5 minutes of pure uncorrupted Beauty they need to come back they need to return and tune us out from most the music of today.
  • @milt88: It could be a romanticised version of tripping over your shoelaces, given the genre.

  • I'm just about to turn 40....still young at heart and love bands like...A place to bury strangers...have seen the brian jonestown massacre 3 times...etc, but shoe gaze starts and ends with bands like Slowdive, Moose, Telescopes and Swervedriver....the best times, fucking awesome and experimental times for british music

  • @Richie3D

    Cool story, bro

  • @4DFayt BUMP^ FOR BAMF

  • I TOTALLY AGREE!!!!!!!

  • You can find this track on the remastered 2 disc compilation, Catch the Breeze. That's really the only album I have been able to find it on. It has some other really good songs as well.

  • what album is this from?

  • @MeloloB 12 inch ep there first i think... i got it :)

  • @MeloloB hey man your on the Internet so why not use it to your advantage.

    try discogs.com

  • This song rates high in my top 10!

  • @Prayyou I went through my 20s in the 1990s. You didn't miss much. Only thing good about it were shoegaze/dream rock, the Friends TV show, and the rise of Rush Limbaugh.

  • @MiloDC I hope that was sarcasm on the 2nd and 3rd things mentioned.

  • amazing weapons

  • oh Dios ...qué gran canción que gran lyrica , que gran banda!

...i´m pushing down i m diving deep yeah slowdive to my dream,

im feelin good yeah i´m feelin free...

    God bless you Slowdive!

  • right there with ya marco

  • In my top 3 favorite Slowdive songs! Kudos for posting it.

  • To me, Slowdive is the only band that has a band name that exactly describes what it sounds like! Their sound is pure ecstacy

  • This is heaven to me.

  • Gah, love Slowdive so so much. Stupid exams are stopping me from seeing Neil live in a few weeks :(

  • Song reminds me of my favorite memories on the 90s.

  • nunca en mi puta vida habia escuchado algo parecido

  • how can i get this fucking sound?

  • @lui505 Heavy distortion or fuzz through loud tube amps (see Boss HM-2, Swollen Pickle, Big Muff, Devi Ever pedals), delay (digital delay if you want a clean repeating sound, analog if you want warm reverb with the option opf choosing modulation), reverse reverb (normally only found on rack gear, but can be found in some reverb pedals; digitech digiverb and hardwire rv-7). Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine also pushes his whammy bar in and out while he strums.

  • word up motherfuckers

  • one of the best bands of all time.

  • @thalkettoth I saw them live in Cambridge when i was a teen - amazing night

  • this could probably be the best shoegaze song together with "Soon" and "Sometimes" by My bloody Valentine

  • agree so much

  • @marcolabarile So true... especially Sometimes is so wonderful!!

  • @marcolabarile and know this is from slowdives first ever ep: )

  • @marcolabarile prefer Allison to this track myself, I dig this tune but it's a bit formless for my liking. Hard to pick what I would call the best shoegaze track. For me it would probably be something by Swervedriver or maybe one of the Cranes tracks, nah actually probably I want to be Adored by the Stone Roses.
