i bet if the people who owned it before and when it was called jazzland they would have reopend it but then six flags took it over then it flooded and six flags abandoned it!
That's to bad but that is one freaky ride! I thought it would just be shooting at targets in mardi gras scenes. Why do dark rides have to be "haunted"?
Wow, thank you for sharing this video. I'm from La, but I never went to Six Flags. I love that you actually showed us the ride as if we were on it. It's so crazy to see it once full of life and now it's so desolate and creepy.
I remember going to Jazzland with my parents and sister in 2001. I was eight at the time, and it is one of my happiest memories of my life. It nearly brings me to tears that this place, even though it was changed to Six Flags, is gone. This ride amazed me even though I didn't get to ride it. Thanks a ton for the video upload!
@JoaquinandRene Its not near the "Ocean" its near several other bodies of water.but you ask why?because the entire city of New Orleans is near some body of water whether it be a lake, river or gulf and if they wanted to build it in New orleans, then they had no choice.Thats why.
@JoaquinandRene It's near the gulf and some lakes, but not the ocean. It's just under sea level so any heavy raining will cause it to hold water and flood. But the city of New Orleans was a happening place so I'm sure at the time they thought it would be a good spot for a park being they have a lot of tourists go there.
@jakeblues119 the rent for the company that takes it over (the Land) is 1.4 million a year.....that is alot considering the location and the fact that there aren't many tourist locations around it.
I miss this, so much. This was absolutely my favorite ride in the world until I was big enough to go on the "big kid rides" like Mega Zeph and Batman, like my brother.
Mardi Gras Madness was my favorite ride there. I had to ride it over and over while I was there. I was very sad to see another video of the entire ride building completely gutted. I really hope SOMETHING can be done with that park.
@Peaches70380 They fixed this before the second summer by adding colored fabric over all of the walkways. If you look at overhead shots of the park post Katrina you'll see all of the covered walkways.
Looks like y'all did a great job on that ride SallyCorp. It's unfortunate that Six Flags decided not to rebuild. There are rumors of a new company called Southern Star possibly reopening the former SFNO property. I hope it comes true and they restore all the rides that are left. This one and the Mega Zeph look really fun.
i think they actually plan to expand it. when it was open, there were 20 rides, and over time, the company plans to add up to 40 more rides. but that's probably a while. i'm not so sure if they'll keep the coasters, though.
yeah, i heard they were expanding it for new additions, but it's too late now. the owner of six flags didn't wanna pay all that money to rebuild the park.

Whenever I see tributes for this park, I always want to say to the Founder of Six Flags New Orleans " WHY IS THE PARK BUILT NEARBY THE OCEAN?!!!!"

@lestatpop I agree, we all need to talk to the City of new Orleans, talk them OUT of tearing it down in Jan. 2011, and rebuild.
