All my life I've been fighting Culex without Lazy Shell Armor (I never knw tht item existed til last year) & without red essences. I beaten him many times but I find him the hardest Mario boss in history & thtz final. Even harder than the Shadow Queen from PMTTYD. My lowest of defeating Culex waz lv 24. I usually fight him @ lv 30 cuz he's tht hard without those 2 major items

@supermariofanclub actually, This never had a sequal. It started as Paper mario for the n64, that made a trilogy till the wii super paper mario. Same with Super Star saga. THAT ended with....hermm its second was partners in time and the end was bowsers inside story :D

Why do people act like this thing is so hard? I beat him when I was eight years old. I didn't know about the lazy shell, I didn't know about the star egg, I just attacked every round with Mario and Bowser and healed every round with Peach. Occasionally having Mario or Bower use a Maple Syrup. I had the Jinx Belt and Amulet on Mario and Bowser, and the Safety Ring on Peach. It's a simple and easy boss in a simple and easy game.

My strategy for Culex:

Mario: LVL 24, Lazy Shell, Safety Ring, Hero Shirt

Geno: LVL 24, Star Gun, ???, Star Cape

Toadstool: LVL 25, Frying Pan, ???, Lazy Shell

The safety ring and lazy shell guard against elemental attacks, which is nice, and I had Geno Boost everyone. Then Mario Jumped the yellow one, and Fire Orb'd the Water. Toadstool and Geno attacked Culex physically and sometimes healed. Mario physically beat the Fire, and then the last Crystal ran out of FP! So then it was easy.

believe it or not, mallow is actually good in this fight too. snowy does really significant damage to the fire crystal...his thunder attack does good damage to both earth and water.

Yeah... this will sound silly, but after posting that comment, I got the urge to fight Culex again. To make the game harder on me, I decided to not use Geno at all after I got Toadstool. Then I was using his Snowy... then I ran low on FP and had to use Thunderbolt. It did 130 (!) damage to the earth crystal. The water one was already dead.

sooo your saying it worked right? when i used it i was more leveled up cuz i knew there was NO WAY i could kill em then...(level 15) so i waited till i was at 28 then beat with mario, toadstool, and mallow. i just used toadstool to heal when i needed it. if i remember thunderbolt did more than that, but thats because everytime mallow leveled up i upgraded his specials everytime. other than that one battle though, mallow is pretty much useless lol

Hmm... I was able to beat him with a lv. 16 party. Toadstool soloed two-thirds of the battle herself, equipped with the Lazy Shell Armor, and spamming Star Egg every turn. Once Culex and the last couple crystals were out of FP, I revived my other two characters and wiped the floor so hard, you could eat off it.

It was fun and challenging. Too leave Geno dead while dealing with the crystals. He got revived and an Ice Rock killed him instantly.

Obtain the reusable egg item from Grate Guy. One may use this item, OR a stock of rock candies, with some kerokero colas and elixirs for good measure. Equip Peach with the Lazy shell. Have the other two characters alternate between using the attack item, and the occasional healing item. Also, be sure to use healing rain with peach (this will limit wasted items). This surefire strategy provides -assured- item dmg. 200 from rocks and 150 from eggs to each enemy. Victory at any reasonable lvl

grind untill lvl 25 or higher and have the best weapons, then attack them all at once with Geno Flash and have Peach heal and revive. Mario should use the lazy shell. Just keep at them until one is destroyed and you will soon realize it is not impossible.

melee culex to death and when the crystals run out of MP revive Mario and Geno if you want, just have Peach heal when she's low on HP. IT IS A LONG BATTLE THIS WAY, but it is the safest in my opinion.

SMRPG was made by Square for Nintendo. They let Culex make a cameo. When you meet him he looks JUST like a FF sprite. And they included the FF music. But the battle win theme is the same.

Culex is a boss hidden in Monstro Town. You need a "Shiny stone" which can be traded for in Moleville. Buy some Fireworks from there and trade the small mole outside the home where you got the Fireworks for the Shiny Stone. Go to Monstro Town to the door that's never opened. Save your game then go inside.

Inside you will be met with a fellow named Culex who says he is not fit to live in Mario's World, but before he goes he would like to challenge the stronger person to combat - Mario.

Yes, SMRPG was created by Square, after all. Culex is an optional boss found in monstro town and he definitely resembles something you'd see in an FF game rather than the Mario realm. This is the music you hear when you fight him.
