I was taught very differently in PUBLIC school. Obviously there has been a lot of rewriting of history going on, it's shameful. Masi Oka has a bachelor of science in mathematics & science, and translates all of the English lines to Japanese himself, for the show "Heroes". He's also fluent in Japanese, English & Spanish. PS - the Takezo Kensei storyline is PREPOSTEROUS. If he had been a gaijin, that would be the PRIMARY element of the legend. J-culture is hyper-conscious of such differences.

Its a show that defies borders, so while it's weird the show is not meant to be a historical representation of Japan or focusing on its homogenousness of Japan. Also J culture is concious of foreigners but at the same time is ironically very good at absorbing foreign culture as its own when it does it right. This includes many things.

The dialogue is not fantastic in Japanese but passable. We gotta remember that ultimately the only people who won't "get it" are native Japanese speakers,
