Mini-DVD sucks. Importing to the computer is very annoying I suggest starting out with the flip. Easy to import and decent quality.

I had a mini dvd camera but I stopped using it cause there was no way to get the footage off the disk.

I would recomend a cannon fs 100 or 200 instead of the mini dvd this is due to the A cannon quality and B due to the mic input

I would recomend the fs 200 because it has a headphone out

Some sweet tips. Ive heard some mini dvd camcorders record with weird formats and codecs... I would suggest a camera that records to SD cards.

As for what should always be in your bag I checked off everything except the lens pen (which I'll be checking out). Great list!

I would have thought the rode videomic would have been one of the suggested beginner mics.

Dont worry about it, some SD cameras give you weird formats too and mini DVD cameras are probably cheaper
