@petewat98 It's called a pinch harmonic, you let your thumb touch the string you just hit IMMEDIATELY after the note sounds, causing the pinch harmonic.

You can also use your ring finger to tap the string. That's what I do because the way I hold my pick makes it dificult to use my thumb. You will have to experiment as to where the harmonics are as that they are different depending on where you "pinch" it. They will be around somewhere between pickups. For me I strike it right above the edge of the bridge pickup for high pitch squals. It takes practice to get the hang of it. I would suggest the thumb method first. I have the Alexi PU

@luis5613 I find it's more comfortable than a regular shaped guitar.  Make sure you have a 90 degree patch chord tho!

@MetalcoreGuitarGuy honestly if your gonna get a V, its 10 times easier to play standing with a strap. if you play sitting down it either keeps sliding off your leg or you have to play it straight up and put the V on your thigh.

@7Finch noot necessarily. it depends on your style and the style of metal you choose to play regularly. say if you were to play nothing but thrash, then this would be a shock to you trying to play it. its the same way you described.
