I talked with Dameon Conway about 8 years ago and Perl 6 was just around the corner.....one heck of a big corner. I left Perl in favor of Python to keep my sanity and the community.
Python has some of the ugliest syntax I've ever seen. I hope the sample that Larry shows here with perl 6 is *not* indicative that P6 is going to try to emulate pythons 'minimalist' syntax.
I find it not too little ironic that the 'community' talked about how they felt that Larry's implementation was 'ugly' and they said they would do the 'implemenation' of Parrots virtual machine. Meanwhile 8 years later they still cant put that bullshit hare brained idea together. Why? Because it was an idiotic idea to begin with. What idiots thought that a 'virtual machine' would be the right way to go? Java has a vm and its pure SHIT. Watch how Perl6 falls flat on its face because it wi
He said they made the regexp in Perl worse?! WTF!! It was so bad that microshit lifted Perls regexp and put it into their .net platform?! There is nothing wrong with Perls regexp as it has been improved!! WTF!!
I cant believe they removed the mathemetical algorithm from Perls regexp. Are any of you Perl developers listening? WTF!! Are you stupid? Whose idiotic idea was it to remove the math from the regexp?
Nope. Perl6 still has some path to go before it becomes usable. And even though there are quite a few (deliberate) syntax changes in Perl6 and some new features, most of the stuff you'll learn from Perl5 will help you learn Perl6. Besides, Perl just get's the job done.
@richard92m Its a better idea to dig deeper in to Perl5 that way when Perl6 inevitably falls flat on its face with its idiotic 'virtual machine' routines you will have a strong grasp of a Perl that actually works and you will be able to branch off the *good* version of Perl. Then the poor morons who invested so much time in to the crummy Perl6 will be stuck trying to figure out what to do next.
Interesting, but rambling talk on "some of the cool things" in Perl 6, in a less than ideal recording. If you are just curious about Perl 6, check out the concise "synopses" on the Perl dev site.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
because Perl6 will fall flat on its face due to its unwieldly idiotic 'virtual machine.'

I'm a Ruby guy, but Larry Wall rocks :-) (And Perl6 sounds promising)

Great video. Makes me wonder if I should hold off from digging deeper into Perl5 and wait for the next release.
