  • aw, my westie used to do this when he was a puppy! he's almost five now, but still occasionally does the head thing :) so cute

  • I did the weird sound making too when my dog was a puppy!!! (and still do, but obviously now that she is quite old is more difficult to discover new sounds xD)

Have you ever tried to do this fart-like noise by placing lips on your arm and then blowing? It works really well LOL

  • And thus, Willy's Song was born.

  • Meanwhile Willy is thinking "Dance monkeys, Dance!"

  • well y dont u try snoring

  • trombones work well for my dog.

  • Willy's thoughts: WTF are these pink things doing?

  • My dogs started barking at that shriek thing :P

  • Does he still do the head turn thing after all these years?

  • whistle and make a low noise at the same time

  • I do those sounds at the end with my pet too, glad to know i'm not the only one.

  • The Yeti sounds like a theremin!

  • I. Can't. Breathe. "Shrieking? Ah, good idea... AIEAIEIAIEIEIEIEI"

  • If Willie was four months old on my birthday three years ago, then that means that Willie and I share a birthday. I kind of feel like more of a nerdfighter than ever before.

  • "He doesn't really REtrieve, he sort of... trieves." -John Green

  • I always do try to do this to my dog xD He usually does it when you say "DO YOU WANNA GO FOR A...?!" and trail off.

  • Make him listen to Dubstep...

  • my dog (Beau choc lab) does the 'head thing' when ever biscuits, out, walk, paddywacks or anything else edible. try saying something he likes to hear!

  • I died laughing watching this video.

  • watch this video with the captions on!

  • i definitely have the head-turn issue with my dogs now that they're older but it is SO sweet when it actually happens!

  • I know this video's really old....but try getting someone on the other end of the phone to talk on speakerphone, and hold the speaker up to Willy. My dog ALWAYS turns her head at that.

  • try singing :D

  • He didn't do the head thing.... do you have an alien living in your house?

  • my dog will turn her head to unusual phone ring tones. You should try that =)

  • Hungarian Throat Singing.

  • I can see why you're afraid the Yeti's cute would break the camera - her voice is adorable.

xD What a great way to spend time with your partner - producing obscure sounds in order to make your dog do "the head thing".

  • i showed my puppy this video...she did the head thing

  • Oh wow, I do that with my dog! (by which I mean make noises he's never heard before so that he'll do the adorable head thing.) I thought I might be the only one based on the strange looks people give me when I tell them about it...

Though I too have run out of noises at this point.

  • The Yeti sounds pretty.

  • my dog always does the head thing whenever i ask her a question, like her immediate reaction is, "huh?"

  • Willy is like "WTF" :D

  • he is so cute

  • That's a healthy marriage right there.

  • that was SO disturbingly hilarious

  • @AlyssaMarie508 Welcome to Nerdfighteria!

  • he must have thought: these guys are just crazy..... :D

  • make the grudge noise!!

  • BAHAHAHAHA do the sheeep`

    1

  • we should see more willy! I actually forgot about him :(

  • Your dog is the cutest :D

  • Comment removed

  • Do the head thing!

    *nods* ....AWWWwwww SO CUTE!!!!

  • Remember when Willy was the cutest member of the Green family? I sure don't, I just started watching these videos a week ago.

  • @AlyssaMarie508 I know how you feel, i've been subscribed just over a year but even then it's been a lot of catching up! Welcome to the vlogbrothers comments section/fanbase where awesome things happen!

  • @Shellewell I think, from the time I posted that comment to now, I've seen every single vlogbrothers video. And I have DFTBA sharpied on my wrist.

  • @AlyssaMarie508 *general applause* DFTBA

  • Here's how I achieve the puppy head tilt: Start with a low note. Go up in octaves until you have your puppy's attention, then just go for the highest possible frequency. This is especially effective when performed by a soprano. The higher the note, the greater the angle of head tilt.

  • that is such a unique and adorably way for a puppy to lay down. i died from adorableness.

  • not a video to watch with a sleeping husband right next to me.....literally laughing hysterically.....heheh.

  • Dear john try doing a screamo inhalation/exhalation cause I'm quite certain neither you nor the yeti listen to screamo music so Willie might not know the sound (yes I am making this comment 3 years later but it still might be relavent)

  • I just read the top two comments....you guys are sick =.=;;

  • The yeti has a sweet voice

  • And Willy just wags his tail...

  • try speaking to em'. My dog responds to that when we talk to him seriously, or talk about going for a walk or something like that. My dog's a genius at figuring when we go to school, even if we don't tell her it's time.

  • why has he heard those sounds before?

  • I have a westie! I think we should make them the offical nerdfighter dog :-)

  • That's what the Yeti sounds like.

  • Wow...Is it weird those sounds made me want to turn MY head...in utter amazement?

  • My dog does the head thing when he hears high- pitched noises, such as firetrucks or other sirens.

  • sream: GIRAFFE SEX!!! nothing will happen.

  • Ugh. It annoys me I have to tell people this. It doesn't matter how big your brain is but how many wrinkles there are in it!!! Thank you, 5th grade science teacher.

  • My dog does the head turn when ever we say Barack Obama!!

  • im tilting my head when you are making those weird noises lol

  • My dog totally just did the head turn while I was watching this video. It works!

  • he's sooooo cute

  • that dog's like; what the f----- are these people doing

  • HE IS SO TINY!!

  • my dog does it, sometimes, when you make a high pitched "HMMM?!" sound. He's older so it doesn't happen much. Although if you get him really excited it's pretty cute.

  • I could not stop laughing when you started making all those weird noises!

  • I love how when Willy does "down", he doesn't so much lay down.... it's more like his butt slides out from under him.

  • He doesn't really retrieve...he just sort of..trieves...

    you are a genius

  • try playing a vid of yourself for him, drives our dogs crazy!

  • like for willy!

  • Alternative hypothesis: Willy turns his head at random.

  • did you try mary poppins? B/c that always work on my puppies

  • Play Justin Bieber for him.

  • Awww, I just became a regular watcher of your vlogs last year, so in my mind, Willy has just always been pretty much fully grown. He was so little there! How cute. :)

  • I loved doing that to my puppy! It was so cute!! Now... he rarely does it... sigh

  • Ha this was on my birthday :)

  • The yeti actually kind of sounded like a yeti for a second there.

  • get audio of islamic prayers, that's interesting noise

  • High pitched sounds usually work like when you pull air in between your 2 upper front teeth if you got a really small gap there.

  • Hehe, this was funny.

  • OMG!!! Ur pup is the same as my 9-year-old cat!!!

Even though my cat is not a dog, she still "RETRIEVES." Ok, not really, she...."TRIEVES"!!! :) .....lol

  • he looked worried

  • Just bloody FART, that'll get some heads rolling :)

  • try swedish, don't think he's heard that before... continue with french, latin, german, danish, finish etc.

  • It sounded like mating season had arrived...

    XD

  • Great timing on that comment

  • So instead he looks on with the face of, "What is that idiot doing?"

  • Considering that Willy is one of THE most adorable creatures that lives on this planet, I will submit a video you so kindly asked for in which I shall try out a bunch of random noises that you may possibly use or not use to trigger Willy's head.. Thing. I would like to note at this time, that if you have instruments, such as some kind of wind instrument (Piccolo, Tuba, etc) Making weird noises into those (such as speaking while playing), will trigger Willy's head thing. Trust me, this does work.

  • Comment removed

  • kinda late here, but maybe you could try different voices. Like turn on the tv or something and see if that works.

  • My own puppy is sitting on my lap and head tilted the entire time. Good job, guys.

  • the puppy was like wtf areu doing

  • My westie, Casey, always responds to our daughter's clarinet. What you need is a woodwind instrument. Casey's now nine and he loves to sing with the clarinet.

  • so cute

  • "casawowade*spam here* *more spam* "

try that lol my dog looks at my like im crazy when i just say jumbled up letters in sentances

  • lawl

  • who do you love more willy or the yeti

  • go whoooaaaaAAAAAA AAAAaaa

  • 2:11 *giggle* who st-*laugh*-rangl-*laugh*-ed the-*laugh* th-*laugh* the-*laugh* c-*laugh*-c*laugh* cat!

*rofl literaly.* I banged my head on the floor and kept on laughing.

  • I'm so used to you speaking really fast, this was weird

  • thoes glasses make u look so muh younger

  • i totally agree

  • My dog does that whenever you make a very high pitched noise. Try saying "eeeeee" as high as you can.

  • I've had to watch this 3 times in a row because my 1 year old daughter is on love with your puppy :-)

  • I meant "in love" jeez I can't spell!

  • 1:50... I'm a scatman! lol

  • did you try beatboxing?

  • o my god, poor dog must think ur like aliens or some sort of freaky substitutes of an alien in human comparison

  • blutablutablutablut could possibly one of the best sounds eva! try that

  • It's kind of worrying that he's heard you make all those sounds before...

  • hahah my dogs used to do that XD

  • i am the 100st commenter!

  • sorry, i meant 1001st

  • My dog did that when he first heard me play clarinet.

  • Haha yeah, I started playing my flute and my Jack Russell started freaking out:P

  • He's a westie - a West Highland White Terrier.

  • No, he is a Hank.

(Refrence to a question tuesday video)

  • did i just see a westie?

"no. you just saw a hank."

  • Do I want to know why Willy has already heard all those noises before? Soundproof your bedroom, man!

  • hahahahahaha

  • Hahahahahaha.

    :]

  • hahahahaha... one of the best comments I have ever read.

  • @TheOriginalBoman I hope to god your talking about the videos 0_0.

  • Willy is adorable and so are you and Sarah trying to make him turn his head. XD

  • "Shrieking? OK

    ARRRRR-RRRRRR!"

    LMAO

  • Best video ever.

    Try Shrieking.

    AAAAUUUEEGGHHHAAARGH!

    ...nope, didnt work.

  • ohh my goodness! you are so cute when talking about willy!

who couldnt love him? I dont really like little dogs, he's so CUTE!

    I have a golden, and he's an idiot. willy's a genius.

  • French Horn, Hermonica, Trumpet, Sax, and Clarenet... my dogs have all freaked out to those once when we first picked up the instraments. I suggest try one, then encourage when he does it, so you don't have to make funny noises with your voice. Instraments work big time.

This is probably VERY late, but who cares. WILLY IS CUTE!

  • John is OH SO CUTE talking about his puppy. I think the puppy is his child replacement. And we all know how much he wants one of those.

  • have u tried fart noices

  • That was the cutest thing ever.

  • I think it's impressive that he did "a head thing" when you told him to do "the head thing." Really all he did was mix up his articles.

  • I love how all of those weird noises must be common in your house because he won't do the head thing.

  • "Do the head thing!"

"...nooo, that was A head thing.."

    lmao you're so funny haha

    and the puppy's so cute!

  • totally cute, and totally awesome.

Want some new sounds? Buy a theramin (I'm sure that's the correct spelling, but the word isn't in my spell check dictionary...) it makes a wide variety of strange sounds (most sound semi-human)

    Peace out.

  • ohhh, i'm serious... Willy is sooooo cute!:D

  • skillz with a Z

  • Omggg! this was added on my 16th birthday!!!!!

  • hum and whistle at the same time

  • Comment 306:

    You gotta ask him questions.

"Hey Willy, do YOU want to go for a WALKIE????!!!!"

I like when he lays down, he just sort of slides on the floor.

  • damn damn damn I mean 307!

  • How is it when I'm doing my homework I always end up watching old vlogbrother videos?

  • hahahaha i know the feeling

  • I love Willy.

  • for a new sound try getting a cup and put it to your mouth and say "girl" or "wirl" repeativly

  • When clicking on a video where people make those funny chipmunk noises (I find that singing doesn't work, but just as you said, general people talk must be utilized) while speaking, my puppy used to do the crazy head turn.

  • Comment removed

  • im too scared to click on the video responses xD

  • I can't post a video response, but have you tried singing The Phantom Of The Opera at him?

  • I am curious how Willie would react to the video of Nermion doing the TARDIS noise

  • he just sort of trieves! xD

  • go oooga! oooooga! XP lol

  • ... I just say 'treat' and my dog's head does that turn thing... and he's like 7 now (which is like 48 in dog years) XD

quite amusing to watch this though.

  • What kind of dog is he? SO CUTE!! =D

  • i love willy he is so cuite

  • Hey. Cute dog! I also have a small white dog who is now over 2 years old, and we've completely run out of sounds. HOWEVER! she will ALWAYS turn her head all cute like if you ask her a question. Not a question containing a command or something exciting either; just like "Hey Maggie? Do you think I should wear these pants today?" it has to be in a high, squeaky "baby talk" voice, too.

The song went well, but you know he'll only get used to hearing that sound and then where will you be? :)

  • haha i recently found out why dogs turn their head its to hear the strange sounds better, not just cuz they're confused :)

  • You know, my Westie allways does the head thing when someone says "sssssssssssssss"

    Give it a try.

  • John! I have 5 dogs and most of 'em do this sound. Jasmine my youngest and hyperest (hyperest...?) does that the most. and she kinda freezes when she can't understand what you're saying. and stares. and turns her head. I was trying to get her to stay still to get a photo of her once and I find that this sound works best. Do a high pitch screech that sounds like "AYE AYE AYE AYE AYE AYE AYE" lol it works with Jasmine. maybe it will work for Willy! Is willy a westie btw?

  • hahahaha

"for someone with the brain the size of a baby fist, I think he's kind of a genius"

    (:

wow, i love your dog. haha

  • you guys are odd pet owners lmao DO the head thing...have the yeti reward you

and then ask him to do it....maybe he'll do it

    lol

  • My pup's four and he still does the head thing whenever we leave the house.

  • You should reward him everytime he makes the head turn. He might pick it up as a trick because he gets something from doing the head turn.

  • lol the fact that he responds to none of your noises tells us that you guys make a BUNCH of strange noises at home ...... lol

  • I still crack up when John goes "Do the head thing!" and Willy nods. "No, that was /A/ head thing."

  • Willy is so cute.

    <3

  • omg my puppy was the same way!!!! she hasnt done the head thing in foreva... maybe i need some weird noises.... hmm....
