note those of you whom who do not know of him have wonders to look forward to

also see derren painting talent---Ill be silent here because if you dont understand my silence -your never understand my words-MT-

  • "we'll do three rounds, AND I'LL WIN..." :)

  • How do u play this is it like rock, paper, scissors

  • he's always a fraction of a second later. Knowing Derren (not personally ofcourse) he uses this split second to see if he was correct. keep watching closely. its like .2 of a second.

  • Fkin papar, i dont care if you wrap me, my stone can still beat the fuck outta your face!

    (Overheard of Cain killing Abel)

  • He's so good on what he doing. Watch the master in action everybody!!

  • dude ... you can see hes going a split second after him thats how hes winning all the time lol

  • @Bardock772 He was winning even when he was watching the other way. Your theory is wrong!

  • I bet I could beat him in a game of rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock.

  • he said pick a scissor ...stone 0:33

  • all he dose is he controls there first choice and then they take what he just did.

    like:

    paper - scissor

    scissor - stone

    stone - paper

    paper scissor.

    and so on.

  • It's just ur mind tell's you to start off with, for example, "Paper", so then u'll do scissors, then afterwards Stone. Derren know's exactly what his oppenents going to use, so he'll just beat him every time.

  • i can see his sub messagine

  • there are many factors, which influence this experiment... first he has to be an idol for the opponent... the opponent thinks hes good at this game... so he can manipulate them very easy...

in the first game he tells him the rules while saying "1 2 3" and showing the scissors (0:34)... the opponent realizes this unconsciously and then he takes the scissors and Brown the stone...

there are much more suggestions in this vid... but i dont htink i should tell everything i could realize...

  • i think he makes them do wad he want not predict wad he gona do..

  • "Whaddya think of that gov?" I love the english, lived there for a few years as a kid. would love to go back!

  • stone...wtf its rock lol u brits are going to put my comment a thumbs down i know it

  • yeah, rock, paper, scissors in my book.. some american evidently gave you the thums up probably!

  • yeah most likely cause derren brown along with pretty much every brit thing is famous in america

  • There's no psychic powers here. Following the opponent's pattern isnt a clever way of playing this, i mean, nobody follows the last played hand of the opponent. Oh and btw christiantsam2525, instead of calling retarded to everyone, try to use your head to think on a theory or something that fits here instead of using it to insult.

  • and how does he manage when not watching ?

  • @BlastedNation well that fully explains when hes not looking aye? u retard

  • then how does he do the 1 where he does it without looking coz the delay would be useless coz he cant see anything

  • Maybe he just got luck on the last one...have u ever thought about that?

  • This was very very interesting. Having seen many of Derren's videos on subliminal messaging and unconsciousness, I actually did manage to predict some of what he was going to do.

Notice how he briefly demonstrates the sign he wants his opponent to make just before starting each game.

    0:34 and briefly 0:40 - scissors

    1:15 - stone

    1:51 - paper

    2:19 - scissors

As for the others, I didn't catch.

Amazing how he does it so naturally!

  • @MMurchie

    Good job dude! :D

  • GOOD EYE! GOOD EYE! GOOD EYE!!

  • @MMurchie pretty amaizing how you saw that!!!!!!!!!

  • @MMurchie he's been practicing his whole life, of course he's good.

  • @MMurchie

    Thumbs up for noticing that!

  • @MMurchie

Thanks for telling, I have also found one:

1:06 scissors (his hand is waving at that time.)

  • If you watch Derren's Hand prior to the start of the game he signals either Paper, Scissor or Stone. The player then copies what he sees and shoots out what he saw. All Derren has to do is play the one that beats it. Watch his hand carefully before the start of each game.

  • thats wot i was thinking too xD

  • Round 1, DB: stone Mark: scissors

Round 2, DB: paper Mark: stone

Round 3, DB: scissors Mark: paper

  • I can kinda do this with people I know well. My sister hates playing R/P/S with me. The fact that he can do it with strangers shows true talent (and IS possible).

  • If you will notice with each of his opponents, after the first match they copy his choice in the following 2 matches. As for the first win he must have a way of suggesting their first choice.

  • ah man this one is an old trick... too easy. opposite of previous opponents winner. confused ??

    drop me a line

  • wtf is shaking someones hand 4 times going to do? Make you through a paper at the end so a scissor will break it? wtf?

  • *slaps forehead* go die, fuktard

  • u fucking go die u retard. wtf shake hands four time.. bullshit what the fuck you trying to prove you lil fuckin dip shit. dont be up here tryin to act all smart when you really not

  • Derren Does the hand sign he wants his opponent to do before he officially starts a round, just notice Derrens hands before each round, some are luck...

  • Notice at da beginging he askes da guy if he wants to play paper, scissors, stone? nd at da sme tyme he shows a scissors, den da first real gme da guy chooses scissors. (sry if ive confused u or any1 else, its difficult 2 explain but if u read derren browns book pure effect i think it mite have it)

  • Lol, the people he played against was idiots... They only chose the hand that had won the previous round! If he won Stone-Scissor one round, they would chose stone the next

  • But how did he win da first tyme?

  • You are the last person to comment on ones intelligence.

TooferMan, you kick ass. nice work

  • Yeah Well Alasatra, you need to work on your sarcasm skills there. Also, check out a dictionary to help with the spelling and grammar. And such foul language!! Do you blow your daddy with that mouth?

  • Wow, you're so smart, YOU guessed it right, Derren has an alien connection!

Lemee guess... you're a religious nut too...??

  • Yes, Darren's opponents do copy his previous rock, paper, scissor choices and lose. However, it's more than likely they've been paid to do so. It's easier than memorizing a sequence of moves. The schill is the oldest magic (con) trick in the book.

  • I am a magician. DB does not use schills, for aesthetic reasons. The stooge is the lazy man's explanation. I happen to know how this trick is done, and have done it myself (not as well as DB, but I know the method).

  • you guys are REALLY retards just notice what MrMJ7 said

  • too easy, look carefully, they always choose the 1 darren last did.

  • I think he uses suggestion with his hands on the first play, then doing concious hypnosis to make them mimic his last move.

  • Its easy to do you just have to like block what youve just did

  • Fun. Fast talk and confidence key.

First, he lures his opponent by gesturing the opening move he wants them to make while emphasizing how good he is at the game. Note the scissors he gestures with victim one and the way he waves his hand in the paper sign while saying victory.

Second, these victims helplessly mimic his last play (thinking he is so good) while he simply chooses the next one to beat his last play.

I'd like to see if he could predict the next play after intentionally losing.

  • @alexhogendoorn essentially I think that's the case. Another factor that's important is I think he is even choosing to play people who don't know how to play, hence are more likely to copy his previous move, or to mimic his starting gesture. Overall when it comes to videoed tricks like these, they can film a whole bunch of times, and then only choose the ones where he succeeds, makes him look better than he really is.

  • just pay attention to his hands while hes talking.

hes priming the people to what to pick. most of the time, he will prime them to the last mark he did because that is the last sign they saw. if he did paper, he makes them use paper next etc.

  • that's genius, it's so cool how it works

  • here's a tip for you:

the guy who won the world championship in this said that he always makes his mind up for the next 3 consecutive hands he'll play before he starts. (and so on if needed)

so lets say its a best of five match, you won't be influenced by the outcomes of your previous hands, because you'd have already made up your mind beforhand, thus making you harder to read.

  • world championship rock paper scissors? XDD

  • @ChovinIsDumb I lol'd at that too... I just found out there is a world championship for drawing perfect circles (freehand of course). People are so competitive - the ego is so needing to be championed that national contests are born of the stupidest thing just so someone can compete for the title of "the BEST". That ego need is the mechanism by which they are manipulated here to lose.

  • @UpRoaryus

If I could draw a perfect circle I would DEMAND a championship of some sort. Do you have any idea how hard that shit is

  • one of my family knows the sister of the guys who started the world championship. They set up a website as a joke, but started getting donations from around the world. They decided to make it legitimate, and have been running the championships for a couple years now.

  • and when he says "gonna win for the last one" he makes the paper with his hand

  • until the end

  • the other guys did theres before derren so either it was quick reactions or something else

  • watch the whole thing idiot

  • The guy always does the last one Derren did, at least in the beginning...

  • agree with Halina

  • he knows the first gestures cuz he shows it with his own hand before the came even starts.

  • some should have done fire and beated his things

  • ive noticed that whenever i play this game with someone, they start with, lets say rock. then paper then scissors. because we call it rock, paper, scissors. i dont think once you know the first thing they do, you can beat them. i dont know how darren knows the first gesture that they will do

  • it's usually scissors, so thats what i gesture with to make them more comfortable with choosing it ^^

  • look these people mirrorings what darren just did. he won with paper and this boy makes paper. he dont succseed and darrent beats him with scissors, after that boy try to win with scissors and again darren knew what he choose;] interesting. i thing first symbol darren is suggesting ("how much wins, 3 wins ok") that he win and he is very good at it after 1 won he really know what will be next cause people mostly choose syblow who won later xd thats all, DONT clap your hands xd

  • He shows the scissors as an example first

  • Actually he used subliminal messages, when he asks "you want me to win?...win?" hes waving scissors around (different choices throughout) and the kid picks what he was doing with his hands before and picks the winning gesture. GG

  • Think its the power of suggestion, the person always does what derrin won the last game with!

  • Notice that all the games he played went in the same pattern as "Paper, Scissors, Stone" So if someone played "Scissors", the next time they'd play it would be "stone".

  • I was thinking the same thing... and why didn't someone who had three rounds with him do the same thing each time with the hope he wouldn't keep guessing the same thing? No one did the same thing even twice.

  • Derren uses many techniques that helps him persuade his opponent. Although his hand signals are one of the primary causes, there are other important parts to it. The rapport, and his leader-like way of speaking helps him do so. For an example, he stated that he is really good at the game. This helps him make his opponent somewhat more focused and serious without realizing it. Therefore this will be somewhat harder to do it on your friends. But will still work if you're influential enough.

  • And you can hear how Derren shows power through his speaking if you listen carefully, which causes the opponent to concentrate on Derren's hands unconsciously.

  • everytime he is about to play... he holds one of the three out for a long time. he makes sure that they think that one is the greatest choice. "stone breaks scissors" my hand smashes yours. also, check the video everytime he turns around... he keeps one of them up... then turns around and does the greater - win, same-draw, weaker -loss. check it.

  • nice hypothesis.

  • i think that derren tells the other guy subconciously what to use.and this is clear to me because every time he says what he did. i.e. "i cut your PAPER" and he takes his hand.also noticed that evey guy he plays with, uses exact the same thing that Derren used in the previous round.coincidence? don't think so.

  • It might just be me, but this seems like one of the least impressive Derren Brown bits. All the people he played just kept on switching to the next "item". They never did two things in a row or went back. Whether they're stooges or just predictable, I caught on rather quickly.

  • 0:59

This one I think Derren heard the boy in the back say something like "Paper".

  • 0:51

You can clearly see him *try* to imply scissors into his subconscious, but... he second thinks himself? Derren either thought the man subconsciously saw him delay his Rock, or Stone rather, in the air OR that he heard the boy on the side say a word that sounds like Rock/Stone. (I'm not sure if he did though)

  • 0:30

You can see Derren implying "scissors" toward his first opponent

"You know the game Rock Paper Stone? When you go One Two Three? Then you do something, alright" You can see the scissors.

He does this again when he points at the boy with a quick flash of scissors.

But then here's when it gets really interesting...

  • lol its rock paper scissors but he uses paper scissors stone/rock and its a mind trick to people because most of the people played it as rock paper scissors so its just fooling the mind!

  • The guy who Derren is facing always copies what Derren did the turn before. It only works with people who have a low IQ. I mean... Millwall. Come on.

  • i agree with the low IQ part because .... when the boy first did sciccors.... he just was like forget ill use rock then he said ok forget THAT ill use paper....so darren knew he was going for ALL of the objects...someone more intelligent would've did scissors, paper, then maybe scissors again.

  • its clearly rock paper scissors

  • I've always known it as "Siz, pack, brick". Fuck knows why!

  • At the beginning, he says "do you know the game" then did an example of it, in his example he chose scissors, this choice is imprinted in the guys subconscious, se he chooses scissors on the first go, Derren chooses stone, stone becomes the imprint, guy chooses Derrens previous choice of stone, Derren chooses paper, next he chooses paper, thus darren chooses scissors. when he faced the other way he repeated the example with paper, thus knew to choose scissors

  • and at 1:47 he is holding up the paper sign for quite o while :)

  • when he asks everyone to win lose or draw, he holds the hand that the person is going to bring out and then turns around. he just has to find the right people to do it with.

  • So what you are saying is that Darren quickly flashes the symbol he wants them to pick while he's asking "win lose or draw" and then he has a good chance of being able to beat that, because he is signalling their unconcious thoughts, correct? If watch closely on the first game, when he asks win lose or draw, he holds to fingers out when pointing to the guy. clever.

  • ok, theres a win, lose or draw. then theres rock, scissors or paper. maybe people associate these words together. like win to rock, lose to paper. so when someone says lose, maybe that triggers somethin in their mind and they go with paper. obviously thats not what im associating those words with, just an example. thats my guess!

  • I see a few things that DB does: one is NLP (flashing scissors), predicting person's next move based on their loss, and finally only choosing his a quarter of a second after. Notice he also chooses people who are easy to manipulate.

  • I've never heard it called "Paper, scissors, stone", now "Rock, paper, scissors" is a different story

  • Derren Brown is English, after all.

  • It's not just because he's English, I'm English and I call it rock paper scissors. More likely because that what they call it at his school/ in his area.

  • for all of u kids who think he is doing it a quartor of a second after.... u wrong... u think he would study N.L.P for god knows how many years to try to win at a game of paper sisiors rock on a fucking quortor , noo , he knows n l p ! shit guys and his good at it not any 1 can just get up and win like that!

  • post nr1: im very good at rock paper scissors too and i use something like derren does :D.

at 0:33 he shows an example of a scissors as expartan said, so the guy starts out with scissors(it works like 8 out of 10 ^^).

then after that everyone has its own pattern, which is pretty easy to find out.

i always win from my friends cause i know them best as a person too and that helps evaluate what kind of pattern htey have :D.

  • this is derren brown here. i think he'd have a much deeper explanation than that

  • post nr2:

however after a certain amount of matches the other person starts to change his pattern because he noticed he keeps losing.

usually the first time he starts changing he will probably use the same 'hand' as he used before.

speed is also very important u have to keep a fast pace and dont allow ur friend to think, thus forcing him to go on instinct

  • every move they make is the same move he made a move before.....geeez ppl

  • I reckon he was doing it quarter of a second later for the first two and then he could make an educated guess as to what the last one would be--some form of pattern, probably.

  • On the first guy, he says "Do you know how to play it?" and when he demonstrates he does scissors. So when they play the guy does scissors.

  • EDIT: Same for the last guy.

  • ¡sllıʞs ǝʌɐɥ ı ( ˙uʍop ǝpısdn ƃuıʞlɐʇ ɯı ʍouʞ ı ɥɐǝʎ) ˙ssǝɥɔ puɐ ɥo ʎǝuoɯ ƃuıʎɐd ʇnoɥʇıʍ sƃuıɥʇ ƃuıʇʇǝƃ sıɥ oslɐ ɯɐɔs uɐıssnɹ sıɥ ǝʞıl ɯıɥ ɯoɹɟ ɹǝʇʇǝq uǝǝs ǝʌɐɥ ʎllɐnɔɐ ı 'ʇɥƃıɹlɐ sı sıɥʇ

  • 2 guys, 2 different patterns: watch carefully the first guy, derren made 3 times "the paper" before the round even starts, then the guy goes with scissors and derren kills him with rock, derren keeps doing it and he always tries to beat derren first move. With the second guy, derren made the move and the boy then copies it, ex. derren goes scissors and in the next round the boy goes with the same scissors. This guy is a follower. This trick shows that everyone have a one consistent pattern

  • i had a friend in grade 5 who taught me that trick back in the day and best 2 out of 3 has ever sense then be automaticly in my favor but its good that u found out by observation like my buddy did thats says alot about u

  • i can beat darren brown in rock paper scissors. since i was a child i could aoway win lose or tie. its all about patterns.

  • Perhaps. But what Darren here is doing is implanting a suggestion. Watch carefully.

  • If you listen to the guy at the end he knows the secret

  • If u notice when he does the trick looking away, just before he looks away and tells the audiende he will do it without looking he shows the competitor a hand sign which they end up using (look at his hand 2:19) he has a scissors which the guy ends up doing

  • If u notice, he shows the scissor right? He had a video with Sublinimal Messages. I think he used that trick on the people, he played with ;)

  • all he does is he starts the game "come on, 1, 2, 3", the other one's a bit behind, then at 3 he does it, brown sees it and reacts quickly.

he couldn't do it if they'd had their hands behind their backs and fixed the handsign behind the back already.

i like derren brown but this one is cheap ^^

  • But what about when he is turned around? What you just stated was one of the things he tried to prevent people from stating.

  • wierd they kept going in same order of paper scissors, rock.

  • Chris angel and derren brown are totally different. chris uses illusions and "magic" while derren uses tricks of the mind.

  • And Chris Angel is an illmannerd brat while Darren is a gentlemen.

  • hes kinda like chris angel exept this dude is biristh

  • and chris angel is a bullshitting dick.

  • ahaha , ook but still he is like him

  • My observation: he makes gestures beforehand with the item he wants his opponent to 'throw'. A lot of the time the cameras keep his hand out of view when he's doing this, but when you can see his hand it's pretty clear. 1:15 he does rock, from 1:47 to 1:57 he's making paper gestures, and 2:17-2:20 he's doing scissors.

  • This is the answer! I watched it over again, he does it through the entire video. This is the core of the trick, of course to increase your chance of suck success, you need to be good with NLP, suggestions, gestures, voice signals, etc, which Derren Brown has mastered. Still, if you know a very suggestive person you can perform this at parties to really impress people :)

  • Well spotted!

  • Most of us call it rock paper scissors... and anyway, the language originally comes from Britain, so what you percieve as 'changes' are actually the original version in most cases... and it isn't as if Americans haven't changed anything about English, either...

  • Shut up you complete and utter wank stain

  • you're speaking the English language Fucker not the American language. ignorant hillbilly!!

  • Gee, if any of those guys would have paid a minimum amount of attention counting what Brown and his oponent were using, they could have owned Derren with ease...

  • i think Derren Brown responds very well. did u realise he's somehow abit slow in each bet. maybe he'd trained himself to do that. there could be other tactics too, or maybe that's just a bunch of discussed lies.

  • This game's called "hammer scissors paper", "rock paper scissors", "jan ken pon", and many other names.

Also it's the best game ever, i win all the time :P

  • 2:18 to 2:20 he holds the sissors sign he also does it at 34 and 41

  • if they do the last one he did... how does he know what theyll do first...?

  • I am a rock paper scissor champ (lightweight division). I would take Darren out!

  • first off I was joking. secondly, your statement makes no logical sense, because if it was "all about luck" than why would it matter who you played? a better and more relavant insult would have been something like a no-lucked no-armed person could beat you since cancer and one-eyedness have nothing to do with the game.

    God bless.

  • easy, the guy always picked whatever darren picked the round before, and just changed it

thats why when you play that game stick to one option all the time

  • "my penis smells like fish" lol

that was a great Darren quote

  • what song is that in the begining?

  • Rock paper Scissors is what we call it.

  • Derren Brows ROCKS

  • the ppl instinctfully do the emote he did last.

  • people tend to loop their rock paper scissor so he knows in advance what will come out

  • No, joobn00b got it right, in every case the other person did what Derren did the previous time, so he can win lose or draw just by playing against his own previous hand. That's why nothing counted until he'd played at least one "practice" game, because that one's random because there was nothing for the other person to imitate.

  • Derren nor any human can read another peoples mind...he is simply telling them what to do with subliminal signs

  • poor you.

  • batiboy

  • poor you.

  • One can basically learn to read minds by learning body language though.

  • exaclty

  • they just copy what he did the last round...

  • millwall.... dirty place lol SHIT TEAM N ALL

  • Noticed the connections: (B for Brown, P for pedestrian)

    Round 1: B stone P scissors

    Round 2: B paper P stone

    Round 3: B scissors P paper

    Round 4: B stone P scissors

    Round 5(lose): B scissors P stone

The pedestrian's move is a copy of Brown's last move! Brown could do that blinded because he knew what he did last time, and he wouldn't do twice blinded in a row.

But how did he signal the guy what to do in the first round?

  • if you watch again, especially when he says win lose or draw, he makes hand motions that they subconsciously pick up and emulate. he basically forces them to pick what he wants them to.

  • But what about the first round? Is it when he's saying "it's like 'scissors paper stone' and we all make an action" he makes a gesture which is subconsciously picked up by the passer-bys?

  • dont bother acting like its a magic trick and thatr you can work it out. if you ever watch derren browns shows he always tells you that its a trick, and most times tells you how he did it. thats what makes his shows so good, its al about how easy it is to control people throught voice and body language.

  • its called rock paper scissors

  • As far as I know it's only referred to as that in the US and Canada.

  • roshambo

  • It is annoying beyond belief seeing all these comments on the Derren videos going "I know how he did it! He popped a radio transmitter up the other bloke's bottom and was controlling him like a robot!" or whatever. Well done. I can just imagine Derren Brown coming on here and saying "wow, you guys are on the ball, do you want to come on tour with me and be my best mate?". What exactly do you people want for your (often wrong) "revelations"?

  • thats awesome

  • At :41 he makes a paper sign. The opponent thinks he's using paper, so opponent uses scissors and Derren uses paper.

At :51 he makes a scissors sign. The opponent picks this up and uses rock to beat. Derren uses paper.

    Rock symbol at 1:00

  • he made scissors before after hand shake, at 31 when he explains game at 35 and again at 42

  • its gotta be said that jsee69 is right i think. u can only see it in this video at35. he makes a scissor sign to influence the first move and the rest are a sequence that follows naturally as disfirer says

    simple

to explain further he does it in another clip...cant find it...where he asks the ppl at home to think of a card and whilst he is doing the explanations before you think of one he makes several diamond shapes with his hand and a number of fingers as well.derren is a sceptic as well ppl

  • cand anybody please tell me what song is this? thanx.
