If you want a better textmate alternative check out redcar. It's still in early development, but I'm running it and it gives you snippets, bundles, etc. Google it.
I don't get it - you think gedit and textmate are similar because gedit has a files pane and ruby syntax highlighting? HAH! linux people are hilarious.
Auto completion, snippets, snap open, regex matching, quick highlight, and so on... Those plugins together can make gEdit behave like the Textmate - it's not the "looks".
But of course, you're too narrow-minded to see this on the video. Jez, I guess you don't even know what Emacs is.

I noticed behavior very similar to TextMate's bundles in this screencast. Not too bad, but I'll stick with TextMate.

Anyway, I'm talking about more than just the looks... I've used linux for years... clumsy gedit doesn't come close.
