@vistarox When saying "Linux is owning Mac's ass big time xD" I didn't mean the computer since there's no actual Linux, it's just an OS, but I meant that Linux have proved to pwn the ass of the Mac OSX :)
@MegaBlueZOMBIE Big deal. I'll get it for my 360. Also, Skyrim isn't even out yet, so how the hell would you know?! You couldn't possibly have any idea of the game's minimum spec requirements.
@j800r Well,it is a big deal since a PC equivalent to the price of a mac have AMAZING graphics that are much better than consoles, and of course the most important thing, mods. Bethesda are releasing their engine and editor so people can use it for mods. If you ever played Elder Scrolls series or Fallout or just about ANY RPG on PC, you would realise how important mods etc. are. And you can see that it is only for Windows on the official website. Guild Wars 2 is also not for mac.
@j800r By the way my PC is literally half the price of a mac and twice as good. I am not even kidding, I have compared the specs. NOBODY should buy pre-built computers, the same thing goes for Alienware, my computer I built myself(which isn't even hard to be honest, it just has 8 parts and you get people to slot the parts in for you if you want) is MUCH better than the most expensive Alienware model.
If i look to the prices from a PC and a Mac i hope there is more freeware in Mac. But still, the keygens, the torrents, warez, go on... Most of them can only work on Windows
well, in windows, we have a thing called a task bar. it lists all open programs and windows. if you hover your mouse over one, it will show a preview.
Wow, I pretty much watched this whole video and went "Yep, openSUSE has it out of the box, that too, that too...". Wow, you must be a troll, either that or you have the typical Mac user IQ of 40
And you have to tap all the way down until the window appears you're looking for.
Now that's a huge waste of time dude.
Exposé is way snappier. Just one tap on the keyboard (or use the screen corners), a click on the desired window and you're done.
And if I'm not wrong you also can use Quick Look inside of Exposé. So that becomes really handy if you have way too much windows opened and the tiles are too small.
Alt-tab or the Task Switcher was copied by apple actually. It debuted in windows 3.1. Amigas were the first to implement multi desktops environments. The first gui was xerox, and thats were apple got the idea from. The recycle bin is about the only apple original. So no they were not the first by any means, except the trash bin.
lol, and once again someone who doesn't know the history of computers. try doing some research into what you claim to know. I was around when this stuff happened and apple actually had most of those features first, before S.J "left" apple.

I just noticed on the desktop it says "be original", how ironic for a video on a feature that just about every os has. Has this guy ever heard of compiz fusion? windows 7 maybe? Macs may look pretty but Linux owns them on cool looking shit, and price, and speed. But I guess that apple is just trying to flatter everyone, seeing as how imitation is the most sincere.
Well, those were all concepts copied off Apple. Seriously, OSX has had aqua/expose since 2001, back when windows was a boring-beige OS. Now, Windows, and Ubuntu (yeah, that's basically where the linux features you speak of are at), were clever to copy Apple, they are good ideas. However, don't think that they came up with them first.
out of the box experience suddenly fades when you realize that most softwares work only in windows. Oh btw, you got bootcamp there which runs uhm... windows? :D
MacOSX is essentially a closed source unix clone much like Linux. Unfortunately they don't tell you that. Instead they tell you all the super whiz bang things that have been repackaged or copied from other operating systems and present them as an Apple exclusive feature. they don't tell you that they were hacked before all the other computers(<2mins)in a competition. Or that they can and do get viruses. Nor do they tell you that the hardware is the exact same thing as a pc only more expensive.
Mac OS X is not a clone on Linux i can tell you that. While Linux is a good alternative to Windows, Linux was created in 1991, Mac OS was created in 1984. Mac OS X is not a new OS, its just a shiny upgrade from gray-scale Mac OS 9. I agree that yes, Macs get viruses like all computers do but they have some very original stuff that separates them from Linux or Windows. In my opinion, Windows and Linux are more towards customization whereas
Actually starting with MAC OSX they rewrote the core coding and based it off of UNIX. In fact most of the features are native to all unix and unix based systems. Almost every video I've seen so far has shown me features that I use on the daily, on linux. It's true. EVERY OS SUCKS, however through Macs marketing they try to make it seem as if it's flawless. The email checker, movie watcher, internet junkie guy does not need a four figure machine.
OS X's core is UNIX, everything else is all Apple. It doesn't even use X like a normal *NIX derivative. It's like the retard baby that only a few people love
GNU was started in 1984/1983 and Linux was made in 1991. They both operate together to make an opterating system, which you are calling 'Linux' incorrectly.
All marketing attempts to make the product appear flawless - I mean, what kind of ad agency would it be that put out an advertisement that said, "This product is OK, but some aspects are shitty"?
Mac OS X is trying to create the best user experience possible. I can't say "oh Mac pwns and everything else sucks", each operating system has it own advantages and disadvantages. The I pick is to suit what I need not what everyone pressuring me to pick.
dude r u electronically illiterate? 's r soo easy to use especially when u first get them! the only way they would be confusing is if u treated them as a pc.
trust me i have had macs all my life but still use windows heaps cause of games and school
windows 7 is not bloated. vista was bloated. on the same hardware, windows 7 runs almoast twice as fast for conventional tasks like opening explorer and logging on
It's a good feature. But it's not that necessary on Windows, the Taskbar having always been better than the OS X dock at managing running programs. So this is not really something that I am missing.
Still, I have a beautiful Exposé clone for Windows. Really well designed and customisable, too!
It kinda is, which is why Microsoft copied Apple a bit when they made taskbar previews. I use Windows and keep running into a situation where I need a specific window that I can't find by title. I'm serious.
Also, read the description: "Yes, We are talking about 'Out-of-Box experience' so please don't say that you can do it on a Windows machine using some fancy third-party applications!" - Meaning, fancy clones and hacks don't count here. Only the tools that come with Windows count here. :-P
I realise that, but the out-of-the-box experience has nothing to do with "Why Mac" for me. Obviously I am going to install a simple open-source freeware tool before I buy a new computer for €1000-ish with a completely new OS, just because I am having minor issues with finding open windows ... which I don't have, anyway.
Yes, but it's buggy. I use Windows XP in Hebrew and every non-English app in that viewer appears reversed. Plus some windows using anything other than Windows' original paint methods (the tools which make the window image you see), like 3D games, just get displayed as a black screen. And it's not as pretty and smooth as Expose. :-P
i use a mac all day, every day at work and i turned this feature off almost right away, i hate all mouse gestures and especially this always interferes and moves windows when i dont want them to... really annoying. expose is good to use with keyboard shortcuts though... off the top of my head i think i use apple+f3 and apple+f4 a lot.
this can be done on windows just as well though.... fucking apple fan boys are insane.
So what happens when you got to click on something on the corner of the active window, suddenly its not so great. would be better if you just click a button and scroll all the open windows; wait where have i seen that before? Oh right windows. one more thing you had a verses thing at the beginning then all it was is you jerking to some dumb mac feature.
Actually, it doesn't go to Expose/whatever you set it to when you click on something in the corner. It's not far enough in the corner. The cursor has to be all the way in the corner for it to work.
So stop trashing talking Macs when you haven't used one.
I prefer using a Mac but Windows has tons of games and other things. If you're a gamer or more of an office person or if you just don't think that you can afford a Mac go with Windows. If you think that you can afford a Mac go with that. Let me just say that if you spend a little extra money on a version of Windows you can use that on a Mac too so you can get the best of both OS's.
is Expose the only good reason why mac is better? I don't think eye candy and glossy windows make an os better than another, its how you use it and whether or not you can ACTUALLY use it. The mac's gui looks awesome, but that reason alone isn't going to get your invoice out or your taxes done. Windows focuses on the operating enviorment and productivity. No, windows doesnt have Expose, but why would you want it if it doesn't make a difference in your productivity anyway?
omg windows freaks wathever that you can do the same with windows. i can't go to a corner in my screen en than see al the windows! no i had to do alt+tab and on a azerty keyboard that isn't easy! (azerty=belgian keyboard)
I am a windows user and I say windows is better because it can support more games than mack. For example: Sims 3, Rollercoaster tycoon 3, Sim City 4, Trainz railway Simulater 2006, and others.
Windows 7 does this better out of the box, provided it's not littered with OEM bloatware.
If your HP PC sucks, blame HP. Not Microsoft.
Microsoft's built in stuff in Windows 7 is fast and simple. OEMs just feel like they have to drown you in pathetic trialware and the like. You don't have to buy a PC from Apple for things to work well.
I mean, you're right about the bloatware, but OS X is still better out of the box. I have both the Windows 7 RC and OS X, and OS X is much much faster and responsive.
It doesn't sound like you've tried the beta. I was an avid Windows user for the longest time, and the Windows 7 beta is one of the most pleasant Windows builds. Much better than Vista. But that's all besides the point. I recently triple-booted with Ubuntu, OSX and the Windows 7 RC. Initially a Mac hater, I slowly found myself using it more than the other two. It is now my main OS.
Additionally, I believe a release candidate is much more than a beta...
it's still a beta. you know Release Candidate, besides in a year when they release it, it will have everything an OS has and then some. i have tried the release candidate and found it very fast. then i tried installing it as my main OS and with the aero enabled and how fast it was i already knew it was better than vista and Mac OS X. I'm not being biased, i have used a Mac for 6 months and hated everything about it. no customization at all. OH and when it crashes there is no restoring it.
Meh. I guess we all have our preferences. I'm a little concerned you didn't give the Mac a fair shot though. I mean, like I said, I hated it at first and it wasn't until my Windows install temporarily broke that I used OS X as a primary OS. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with Windows, but personally I prefer OS X. I'll say one more thing, though. Restoring with Time Machine is the greatest restore method and as far as customization goes, you can pop open any app folder and edit it freely.
i gave it a fair shot but it's just how i am. I'm more of a gamer than a programmer and OS X didn't provide it. so Mac has stuff windows doesn't have and Windows has stuff a mac doesn't have. lets leave it at that. "They are both equal in there own way."
I love my laptop, an apple MacBook and my whole family uses macs as well. I find macs overall easier to use (but that probably comes from growing up with them) and I love the way they are set out. Spaces, Time machine and photo booth are also major pluses for macs
I found this feature when i owned a mac to be the biggest annoyance and when i went back to PC... having the four corners of your screen set to those funtions is annoying as hell. You always accidentally set them off and then what your doing vanishes.
Wow, it would seem mac can't live without windows! 0:56 - There is an ALL WINDOWS option. Truely priceless, i've never seen a windows os with an ALL MAC option.
From watching these videos, Macs seem to be cluttered as fuck and require tedious work to find a simple fucking file such as a picture. On my Windows, I have it completely organized, I have no need to have shit fly around and go whoooosh and bullshit and pretty. Who really needs that? I want to find my goddamn files and programs as soon as I can, which is why I use a fucking windows. Derp.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
yay an aussie guy !! im from sydney and im gettin my first imac next week =) the 24" 2.93 version and i cant wait! can u do some videos for ppl who have been using pc for their whole lives and r makin the switch to a mac?
This is my last comment on this matter. The person is showing that Mac can do the same thing as PC that is why the windows are shown. As for closing a program when pressing the X button that happens on PC not Mac >,> i think a lot of you that have posted have not even purchased a Mac. There for i think you should shut the fuck up and keep your Opinions to your self. i know one thing my G4 cube runs faster then a XP machine so yeah im really happy >,> compared to it slowing down.
It's called minimization. Click the little "line" in the corner of your window. Then find it back on the bar at the bottom. No flashy appearance with a flashlight to highlight where the mouse is. After all, computers are supposed to be designed for people with no abnormal mental defects, right? So they can follow the cursor with their eyes? Apparently this only goes for non-Macs. All of your pro-Mac videos have just shown that Apple has an endless imagination when it comes to useless functions.
Both Windows Vista and Windows 7 can do Flip3D without any plugins or third party software. Windows 7 can do aero peak and aero shake natively, but not Vista (Which is one of the reasons why I use Windows 7 as my primary OS). XP can't do Flip3D, aero peak, or aero shake without plugins or third party software.
I find this feature on a macintosh utterly pointless after so many windows. at least windows xp arranges everything nice and organized with tile windows horizontal/vertical. There is no features on windows, and linux doesn't already have. stop this act yuppies we all know macs are just a game, like bait and switch scheme. I dont want a bad interface, that doesn't quit when I press the x in the window of the application. why do I want a waste of processes in the background. fuck command keys
I don't think you actually have a mac if you're saying that. Hitting the x on iTunes closes the window but leaves the program and any playing music running.
that's what we call convenient. Not only does it get rid of the itunes window if you no longer are using it, it keeps the program running so if you wish to re-open it, it will simply pop up. To "close" a program fully all you need to do is click and hold for 2 seconds on the icon and click close application. :/
If you have linux press Super Key (windows logo key) and W.
If you have mac, just press Command key and click.
Im just trying to help.

Also, read the description: "Yes, We are talking about 'Out-of-Box experience' so please don't say that you can do it on a Windows machine using some fancy third-party applications!" - Meaning, fancy clones and hacks don't count here. Only the tools that come with Windows count here. :-P
SmileyMan45 2 years ago 2
I realise that, but the out-of-the-box experience has nothing to do with "Why Mac" for me. Obviously I am going to install a simple open-source freeware tool before I buy a new computer for €1000-ish with a completely new OS, just because I am having minor issues with finding open windows ... which I don't have, anyway.
Superphilipp 2 years ago
wow gr8 features...the only sad thing about apple that there are not many games for mac :(
MrNvidiapro 2 years ago
um you can do it in vista... 'out-of-the-box'...
widerangledotcom 2 years ago
Yep - and it's called Aero. It looks WAY cooler than this!
AgentCROCODILE 2 years ago
Not even close man...I run vista...
dimis140 2 years ago
wait, no, only with microsoft mouse. so most people can do it at least. its called 'Instant Viewer'
widerangledotcom 2 years ago
Yes, but it's buggy. I use Windows XP in Hebrew and every non-English app in that viewer appears reversed. Plus some windows using anything other than Windows' original paint methods (the tools which make the window image you see), like 3D games, just get displayed as a black screen. And it's not as pretty and smooth as Expose. :-P
SmileyMan45 2 years ago
i use a mac all day, every day at work and i turned this feature off almost right away, i hate all mouse gestures and especially this always interferes and moves windows when i dont want them to... really annoying. expose is good to use with keyboard shortcuts though... off the top of my head i think i use apple+f3 and apple+f4 a lot.
this can be done on windows just as well though.... fucking apple fan boys are insane.
DaveC86 2 years ago 3
Open 100 windows in AERO Peek and you get a bunche of shadows of windows on your desktop. We just press command+expose to hide stuff.
darthvenom95 2 years ago
So what happens when you got to click on something on the corner of the active window, suddenly its not so great. would be better if you just click a button and scroll all the open windows; wait where have i seen that before? Oh right windows. one more thing you had a verses thing at the beginning then all it was is you jerking to some dumb mac feature.
ThaPrey 2 years ago
Actually, it doesn't go to Expose/whatever you set it to when you click on something in the corner. It's not far enough in the corner. The cursor has to be all the way in the corner for it to work.
So stop trashing talking Macs when you haven't used one.
zeldalink3211 2 years ago
And you can disable that gesture and use a keyboard or mouse shortcut.
Next time: don't base your opinions just on commercials and videos. Do some research first.
SmileyMan45 2 years ago
why the hell would somebody open 100 windows?
and if you have different kinds of things to do... like stuff with photoshop, stuff with music and maybe safari windows for the internet
you can still use spaces... thats really helpful
2und2sind4 2 years ago
I prefer using a Mac but Windows has tons of games and other things. If you're a gamer or more of an office person or if you just don't think that you can afford a Mac go with Windows. If you think that you can afford a Mac go with that. Let me just say that if you spend a little extra money on a version of Windows you can use that on a Mac too so you can get the best of both OS's.
narutard720 2 years ago
is Expose the only good reason why mac is better? I don't think eye candy and glossy windows make an os better than another, its how you use it and whether or not you can ACTUALLY use it. The mac's gui looks awesome, but that reason alone isn't going to get your invoice out or your taxes done. Windows focuses on the operating enviorment and productivity. No, windows doesnt have Expose, but why would you want it if it doesn't make a difference in your productivity anyway?
ClarionCoder51 2 years ago
omg windows freaks wathever that you can do the same with windows. i can't go to a corner in my screen en than see al the windows! no i had to do alt+tab and on a azerty keyboard that isn't easy! (azerty=belgian keyboard)
vozzz2 2 years ago
nice video but you cannot compare MAC to PC without showing whitout showing what a PC can do :)...
The things that you show in here can be done with Windows XP or VISTA...
ill never pay 2000€ for a MAC when i can affrod a PC with half of that money ...
MAC is for artist
PC is for VNP (very normal people)

Show me.
Tazjin 2 years ago
It's called
ALT TAB
To switch programs quickly.
TASK BAR
To minimize/maximize individual windows.
WINDOWS + D
To show the desktop.
EVERYTHING you just did can be done with a Windows computer out of the box. Good job researching the competition.
Kyothine 2 years ago
alt+tab is not the same ... you can see the programs icon but not the window itself.
Tazjin 2 years ago
windows aero!
you can see all the windows

You can see the windows w/Windows icon + tab
pgapg2 2 years ago
yes but flip 3d isnt the same. ive tried it and it sucks compared to expose
IcanhasKebab 2 years ago
How do you usually find one window quickly out of many?
On a mac?
You can't!
Sure, on every other GOOD operating systems, there's a taks bar, but Apple isn't smart enough to implement one, no!!!!!!!
Instead, we have these keyboard "shortcuts" which are so complicated you need a manual to figure out which key does what!
Yup, this is why I LOVE to troll against Macs!
Amen!

You don't have to buy a PC from Apple for things to work well.
ericn32 2 years ago
no. nonononoo.
I mean, you're right about the bloatware, but OS X is still better out of the box. I have both the Windows 7 RC and OS X, and OS X is much much faster and responsive.
VGMoose 2 years ago
even so it's the BETA you idiot. when they release it, it will-- no already is the best OS...better than Linux and a MAC.
SPRSniper 2 years ago
It doesn't sound like you've tried the beta. I was an avid Windows user for the longest time, and the Windows 7 beta is one of the most pleasant Windows builds. Much better than Vista. But that's all besides the point. I recently triple-booted with Ubuntu, OSX and the Windows 7 RC. Initially a Mac hater, I slowly found myself using it more than the other two. It is now my main OS.
Additionally, I believe a release candidate is much more than a beta...
VGMoose 2 years ago
it's still a beta. you know Release Candidate, besides in a year when they release it, it will have everything an OS has and then some. i have tried the release candidate and found it very fast. then i tried installing it as my main OS and with the aero enabled and how fast it was i already knew it was better than vista and Mac OS X. I'm not being biased, i have used a Mac for 6 months and hated everything about it. no customization at all. OH and when it crashes there is no restoring it.
SPRSniper 2 years ago
PS: i first installed it in a Virtual Box.
SPRSniper 2 years ago
VGMoose 2 years ago
i gave it a fair shot but it's just how i am. I'm more of a gamer than a programmer and OS X didn't provide it. so Mac has stuff windows doesn't have and Windows has stuff a mac doesn't have. lets leave it at that. "They are both equal in there own way."
SPRSniper 2 years ago
I love my laptop, an apple MacBook and my whole family uses macs as well. I find macs overall easier to use (but that probably comes from growing up with them) and I love the way they are set out. Spaces, Time machine and photo booth are also major pluses for macs

Alt+tab and the taskbar are superior to Apples' "design>functionality"

why can't you just buy OS X and put it on a PC? You can put Vista on a Mac - so why is Apple having this hissy fit?
TheDevilOnHoliday 2 years ago
Why can't you put OS X on a PC? Because Steve knows he can't charge the extra 1000 dollars if everyone buys cheaper PCs with better hardware.

If Apple would make sure OS X ran on every stupid piece of hardware it would be as crappy, slow and unstable as Windows.

I found this feature when i owned a mac to be the biggest annoyance and when i went back to PC... having the four corners of your screen set to those funtions is annoying as hell. You always accidentally set them off and then what your doing vanishes.

Well Vista and Windows 7 natively have Flip3D.
It's really handy when you know the Win+Tab key combination.
julianalmasude 2 years ago
what is the combination to do the flip3d thing.
emilioodc 2 years ago
Hold down the Win key and press Tab to start Flip3D.
Keep Win pressed and press Tab to go to the next window. Hold down Tab to cycle all open windows. Release Tab to stop cycling.
When you want to exit Flip3D, release both keys. :-)

That is simple mac fanboyism, Linux can do all that, and isn't overpriced as Mac is for hardware, and you don't pay anything for the software.
sbrideau2000 2 years ago
Wow, it would seem mac can't live without windows! 0:56 - There is an ALL WINDOWS option. Truely priceless, i've never seen a windows os with an ALL MAC option.
DianteEvra 2 years ago 2
From watching these videos, Macs seem to be cluttered as fuck and require tedious work to find a simple fucking file such as a picture. On my Windows, I have it completely organized, I have no need to have shit fly around and go whoooosh and bullshit and pretty. Who really needs that? I want to find my goddamn files and programs as soon as I can, which is why I use a fucking windows. Derp.

This is my last comment on this matter. The person is showing that Mac can do the same thing as PC that is why the windows are shown. As for closing a program when pressing the X button that happens on PC not Mac >,> i think a lot of you that have posted have not even purchased a Mac. There for i think you should shut the fuck up and keep your Opinions to your self. i know one thing my G4 cube runs faster then a XP machine so yeah im really happy >,> compared to it slowing down.
matthew88166 2 years ago

ASCII808 3 years ago
"I dont want a bad interface, that doesn't quit when I press the x in the window of the application"
Then you should probably get a mac :)
spike848 2 years ago
I don't think you actually have a mac if you're saying that. Hitting the x on iTunes closes the window but leaves the program and any playing music running.
oozabooman 2 years ago
that's what we call convenient. Not only does it get rid of the itunes window if you no longer are using it, it keeps the program running so if you wish to re-open it, it will simply pop up. To "close" a program fully all you need to do is click and hold for 2 seconds on the icon and click close application. :/
blah11blah 2 years ago
So you either minimize an application with the minus, or you minimize an application with the x.
