As a fan of boy´s choirs and - specially - boy soloists I of course know the video with Robin Schlotz as the "Queen...". But nevertheless I prefer a female singer singing this aria !!!
[Your father gave the Sevenfold Circle of the Sun to the Inaugurates unsolicited. When I talked to him about that he said: “Women… My last minute has come. All treasures are for you. And for your daughter. But the Sevenfold Circle of the Sun will be hold in a male manner like I did before by Sarastro. Do not search for things that a female brain can not understand. Your duty is to surrender yourself and your daughter to the leadership of wise men.”]
In my opinion; What makes this performance by Diana Damrau so impressive, is that she doesn't just sing it well and struggle to act the part as others have. Diana looks, moves and projects the fury and menace of the Queen of Night down to her very eyeballs. The choice to shadow her eyes so was also excellent.
I love it. I never really thought of the Queen of Night as a hottie before this. If they'd tried to make this sound more modern, it would have ruined it.
(=In my heart is the vengeance of hell. If you do not kill Sarastro, you are not my daugther any more. I swear!"

I'm glad to add my voice for Diana Damrau's aria, but what's equally impressive is the superb dialogue, aided by the fact that these ladies are both German, and this extends into the silent act by Dorothea Röschmann while the aria is in progress. Not many opera singers have been as expressive when they're not at their own aria.
I've watched this video so many times in standar quality... Thank you for uploading such a piece of art in HD. I love Diana Damrau's vocals, I'm a huge fan of her interpretation as the queen of the night. I'm looking forward to buy the dvd now! She's just amazing!
I don't know if it was planned or spontaneous, but I love that just before she starts singing, she tilts her head down at an angle that accentuates that bitchin' evil headpiece! It makes her seem even more menacing right at that instant. Damrau rules!
There are so many of her singing this in youtube.. But everytime I see her I think Diana sing the queen again please!!!!! Only once... only for me!!!! You were so Great in the role...
wenn nicht durch dich Sarastro wird erblassen! :)

Spoken text, part 1:
Pamina: Mutter? … Mutter!
[Mother?... Mother!]
[Where is the boy I sent to you?]
[Oh dear mother, he is gone from this world and from humans forever. He has given himself to the Inaugurated.]
Mutter: Den Eingeweihten?
[The Inaugurated?]

Pamina: Ja.
[Yes.]
Mutter: Unglückliche Tochter! Nun bist du mir auf ewig entrissen.
[Poor daughter! Now you are wrested away from me forever.]
Pamina: Entrissen? Oh fliehen wir, liebe Mutter! Unter deinem Schutz trotz’ ich jeder Gefahr.
[Wrested away? Oh let us flee, dear mother! Under your protection I can bear all danger.]

Mutter: Schutz? Mein liebes Kind! Deine Mutter kann dich nicht mehr schützen. Mit deines Vaters Tod ging meine Macht zu Grabe.
[Protection? My dear child. Your mother can’t protect you any more. When your father died my power was buried too.]
Pamina: Mein Vater….
[My father…]

Mutter: Verloren!
[Lost! Do you see that iron? It was made for Sarastro. You will kill him and bring the powerful Circle of the Sun to me.]
Pamina: Aber Mutter!
[But mother!]
Mutter: Kein Wort!
