Tricks Of The Shade is the greatest rap album of all time. Took me damn near 10 years to find a copy on CD, although I found a copy of No Goats No Glory hiding in a second hand music store a while before I got Tricks. I just had a cassette recording of a friends album from back in '92 or '93 and I wouldn't even leave it in my car in case my shit got stolen. Back when I still lived at home and we had to go park up somewhere to smoke weed, we always listened to Tricks at the end of the night.
@thaportsfinest08 Hey, could you ask your Dad if he has footage of the performance they did n San Francisco, at an event called The Bomb, in about '93? The event was filmed, and should've been released, but the tape was lost. A lot of big groups performed at those events, e.g. House of Pain, Ultramagnetic MCs, Blackalicious etc.
This is possibly the best hiphop act ever to bless the mic. The Goats encouraged us to think on so many different levels while remaining dope and inspiring. TheBench124 is right to call "Tricks of the shade" a masterpiece. Top notch hip-hop with a political message that remains as relevant today as it was when I first heard it back in high school.
the goats kill it! tricks of the shade is a masterpiece but i prefer no goats no glory! much rawer album ! has no-one got any live footage of the goats to put up? my dads got them on tape playin typical american live with the full band! in 92 or 93 but i dont know anyone with a tape transfere thing!
The goats were better than most of the stuff that came out in the last twenty years, we love them over here in NZ, they have a worldwide fanbase, because they were truthful in a decade of liars. No Goats No Glory.
'Yeah right like I'm afraid to say this, wonderin why the goats aren't on your motherfuckin playlist? We don't kiss ass for radio riff raff, the band played funk smoke much skunk....'
ya dude the Goats were real. no one knows them which is rediculous considering they where better than alot of other old groups people are crazy about.
Having just enjoyed a whole heap of tunes from all the better known bands from the 90's (Del The Funke Homosapien, Lords of the Underground, etc.) I can't believe this video has been here for a year and a half and has had short of 3000 views. The Goats are waaaayyy underrated!!!

Yeah, this is one of The Goats' best tracks. I wish they got as much attention as House Of Pain, but that's the music business.

The Goats were way underrated! In the earyl '90's they were excellent in the little lounge where I was lucky enough to see them.
" Tricks Of The Shade" was their best album, but good luck finding it. At least we can listen to their music on You Tube.
