  • Must say, this is the version my mother listened to and no other ....

  • Just beautiful.......

  • Dionne Warwick was truly a Diva of her time. Beauty, class, elegance and to top it off a voice of an angel. One of my all time favorite songs by Dionne. Thanks so much for positing this video!

  • nice, nice style

  • thumbs up if Skyzoo brought you here

  • Classy tune sung by a classy lady..grace, style & poise..this isn't seen anymore.

  • First class!

  • No one in the industry has had as many classic timeless hits as Dionne Warwick.

  • elegant and vintage song

  • its love

  • I watched Dionne on the Jonathan Ross show last night only to discover that her cousin, Whitney had died a few hours later :-( RIP Whitney.

  • I love this version but The Stranglers gave it grit!

  • awesome!

  • Nice touch with the trumpet, complementing Warwick's singing.

And the strings finish the touch.

If you take out the trumpet and the strings, the song loses its flavor.

  • @Slapshot975 You have a really good ear to hear all these things. You are so right. That trumpet answering Dionne when she sings the words "walk on by" really does make a nice counterpoint. Hey, don't forget those guitar licks.

  • Really lovely selection .

  • I grew up in SE Detoit, so I cut my teeth on M otown music back in the 60's. Even though I LOVR all kinds of music over the decades, MOTOWN is my favotite. This coming from a little white girl!!!

  • @TheMustangsally75 But this isn't Motown. Dionne Warwick recorded for Scepter.

  • @Nocaro I think she must mean Motown in the little-white-girl sense of "every top-40 black pop-song from the 1960's"....

  • @Nocaro awkward

  • @TheMustangsally75 Sweet heart dionne warwick was never part of Motown records. If you check motown artists list she doesn't appear on motown roster. Her sound was never a motown sound.

  • I'm in awe of God-given talent, these folks were touched by the hand of God

  • even though you are a shadow of your self your music is still very much a live and age can take away that long after we are gone walk on by will still be playing

  • rowdy shit.

  • Pure Class. Bacharach and Dionne were pure magic

  • SIMPLY CLASS. BEUTIFULL MUSIC.

  • love song.

  • 13 people just walked on by.........

  • i break down and cry !!!

  • when i was a little girl growning up in the 60's my older sister was very distant from me and didnt spend much time with me as i got older, she was always disconnected from me and I alway wanted to be close to her but i was so much younger,,,,,,, to this day, she is still so distant, and i just love her from afar. I'll always love you, Pam.:(

  • A class act, in every way.

  • such a real sexy song thanks dionne.

  • Nobody can compair singing like Dionne ,shes the best...

  • Iiassiach Hayses versipon is better!!

  • Love this Classic!

  • No like her - EVER - she really brought life to the Bacharach and David compositions - a living legend - and the greatest singer of ANY song.

  • She's still the gold standard of Girl Singers (if she'll forgive me using such a reductive phrase). Dionne was the finest interpreter Bacharach and David ever had (especially when at their sixties pop ballad best)--and they've been covered by some wonderful artists. I was a little girl when this song came out and too young to understand its meaning, but that didn't stop me from loving it and singing along (much to the amusement of my adult family members I'm sure) :-)

  • Beautiful classic!

  • Nobody sings this song better than Dionne.

  • only beautiful

  • @JimColyer okay whats your point?!

  • alors elle c est ma toute jeunesse ( AGE TENDRE ET TETES DE BOIS)

  • love it

  • dionne I still love you..and your music is still so very lovely baby

  • NO WALTZ

    LIBERTANGO

    BUT GREAT GREAT GREAT

  • It's a romantic Waltz.. mm

  • Priceless, timeless, tis is still 1 of my favorite joints of all time.... I still remember tis song as a mere child of 5 yrs of age.... still going strong in the 21th century...2011 and beyond...

  • Warwick Avenue is better

  • It's been a long time since I was reminded how beautiful Dionne Warwick's voice was. Heard this yesterday and it all came back to me. Wow! What a talent! All o her songs were amazing but especially the Bacharach tunes which are timeless.

  • Poor, skinny Dionne. Man, the things we do.

  • Fantastic!

  • 8 people dislike this.....

They must be U S Congressman

  • I was about to eat my lunch earlier and I dropped it on the floor by accident, I dedicate this song to my lost lunch </3

  • Pure magic

  • @dreamsatsea

    Well said!

  • Incomparable!! Music and voice in perfect harmony. Words fail me.

  • thank you ... beautiful song xxxxxx

  • I agree. I don't think anything romantic went on between she and Burt. I just think he was absolutely in awe of her as his favorite vocalist. (the one who made him the most money!)

  • This is my favorite Dionne song!

  • Pre 'Walk on By'.. no idea what romance and emotion was... post 'Walk on By' every possible idea what romance and deep emotion could be...

  • Every Dionne Warwick song is a classic. Beautiful voice and talent..

  • We use to put this album on while I was babysitting for people..and listen for hours as a teen...Good music and fun then

  • check out Isaac Hayes' version if you want some fireworks, some musical genius. He was the artist who gave her "Deja Vu". Dionne is a one of a kind song stylist, once in a lifetime, unique vocalist. krxn11

  • Dionne had immense class, both as a singer and as a person.

  • Dionne Warwick + Bacharach and David = Sheer Magic

  • . . I LOVE DIONNE'S VERSION OF THIS . .

  • Iv`e always loved those strings that kick in at 1;48 such a great song

  • i would cry so much with this song, he would walk right on by, do you think some had a broken heart when they wrote these songs ?????/

it is impossible there is so much pain

  • bert and hal 2 genuses

  • this woman has talent

  • In Portugal this was considered a corny song when it came out, now nobody hears it.

I don't care... I listen to it, I enjoy it, I absorb it and I live the song.

Will you walk on by this song and not listen to it?

  • This is a hauntingly beautiful song and Dionne's interpretation is flawless. Her voice is enchantingly hypnotic as she draws the listener emotionally into the story that she tells about a failed romance. I should also give credit to Burt B and Hal David for writing this timeless masterpiece. This song still moves me after all these years.

  • When 1:40 starts coming in, my "breath" is taken away, just taken away!

Burt Backarach does this is many of Ms Warwicks Songs. That's why I Love

    Her Music so much!

  • Here's to the Hightower Sisters.

  • this voice...is perfect

  • i remember my brother playing this song love dionne an bro

  • One night I stumbled upon the country song "Walk on by" sung by Leroy Van Dyke in 1961, and I can't help wondering if Bacharach and David got their idea from it. It's like Van Dyke sings the scene from the guy's point of view, while Dionne sings it from the woman's. The relationship between the songs is a bit eerie.

  • @joncheskin I went and listened to Leroy Van Dyke's song because of your comment. I agree completely, there is a fascinating relationship between the two.

  • thank you for your answer nocaro :0)

  • One the most amazing sounds you'll ever hear! I really enjoy listening from beginning to end. The wonderful voice of Dionne with the fabulous arrangements of Burt and Hal. Listen to that almost eerie bell at the start with her voice. It gives you the feeling of frightening pain which only could produced at that time. I've heard many versions of this song, but this is the best. If there's a remastered version pls let me know? This was my Mom's Favorite! Thanks for posting.

  • @therickmon1 amen on the eerie bell......

  • What a great song!

Great lyrics and what a magnificent voice!

One of my favorite recordings of the sixties.

  • Yes, they had a relationship, one deeper than any romance could be, the artist and his Muse, the one who perfectly expresses the musical idea he had. They had a connection nobody could equal, even if they never so much as touched, physically.

  • @nicodagger That is a perfectly beautiful way to word it :~)

  • @nicodagger Amen!!! Nothing that todays' artists and their computer's and insufferable sampling could possibly comprehend.

  • @nicodagger

Oustanding post and observation. Beautifully put, I couldn't have put it any better myself... Thanks...

    Worf

  • @nicodagger Indeed - I read somewhere that they actually fought like cat and dog, but as you say, their artistic relationship was sublime, and produced music that can only be described as pop perfection.

  • Hip Hop Comes From Soul, HipHop Proviende del SOUL , Hip Hop Life, Hip Hop Vida.. (8)

  • I love this song! Who ever broke her heart was probably kicking themselves in the ass when she made it big! I wonder if she had any Psychic Network friends back then? lol.

  • it's a classic.....

  • I remember buyin this when I was in junior high school. I knew from then I would always be a fan. "Silent Voices" and "Say a Little Prayer " finish out my top 3 songs to push on people who give me any flack about my fondness for her--they all seem so set on Whitney or Dianna until they give me 20 minutes of listening. Her vocal chops e with and emotional inflections have allowed her songs to live without sounding dated. Much love.

  • did she and he have anything together as in romance? I do not want to tak e away the amazing working realtionship they had together and I never seen hal david , so it is just a curiuso question! so what is the answer please?

  • @jane78ist I really doubt there was anything "romantic" going on here since Burt was married to actress Angie Dickinson at the time. At least I never heard about anything nor was anything ever hinted at.

  • @Nocaro Not only that, Dionne was and is a very religious and respectable Lady....

  • @nightshade7206 LOL The same lady who went to jail for pot...and DUIs? Not saying she isn't religious...but she's no saint sir...NONE of us are! :)

  • wow...

  • @jane78ist

One of the greatest songs of all time!!!

  • @jane78ist No. The only romance between the three was musically in the studio.

  • @jane78ist

We've would've heard about it by now.

  • what!!! who did'nt dance to this song!!! we made many dances for this song.. the cha-cha...the jerk... texas hop... name it we did it 2 this song. lol.

  • wow i thought Issac Hayes was the one who wrote and song this first.

  • sooooooooooooooooo nice ....

  • wow i didnt know she sung this song first i thought this was a issac hayes song

  • A classical song from the "Motown Age..."

  • onra has the best ear for samples

  • Great classic voice.

  • WLS ?

  • DIVA Dionne Warwick.

  • in high school in Chicago 1963 listening to a little radio

  • This is sooo classic it ain't funny I was 5 or 6 years old when I first heard this in my father's car. that's the first time I heard music, it was great, I haven't heard anything yet that can compare to classic music like this. thanx Dionne.

  • @chuck57don Try J-Dilla

  • The song and the lady are timeless. Thank you Dionne for such a emotional masterpiece, This song speaks to all of us and the many people who come in and out of our lives, Bill 7/1/11

  • she sure had an amazing voice before all the ciggies took their toll..now she sounds like an NFL lineman at the microphone j/k

  • amazing! thanks

  • Gives me goosebumps,i was only a little lad and my mum played this on cassette.

  • 4 people should just keep walking. Burt Bacharach + Hal David + Dionne Warwick = sheer musical genius, and obviously some idiots just don't get it.

  • How can I forget this song! My father would play it in the car for years! LOL

  • Sister Dee Dee's background vocal really stands out on this and many of Dionne's other great songs.

  • I grew up with this song, heard it so often but never really sat back to take it in...until now. It's simply a masterpiece, the very best of soulful pop.

  • Beautiful song!!!!!

  • this song totally helped me when I was dealing with a break up, kept it on repeat.

  • Here it is for you, Anamaria! Enjoy.

  • just superb

  • OMG!!! LOOOOOOOK HOW YOUNG THEY BOTH ARE HERE!! She was such a beauty!!! Her voice and her songs were simply amazing. An amazing time for music.

  • Dionne Warweick é sempre Dionne Warwick. Imortal criação deste clássico da dupla Burt Bacharacah-Hal David. PARA A ETERNIDADE!!!

  • I love you Dionne.

  • Incidentally, according to your notes, " 'Walk On By' went to #6 in May of 1964..."

...which means it got that high at the height of Beatlemania, at a time that the Fab Four had five singles in the top 5 for several weeks, simply exchanging positions...

    ...Not too shabby.

  • Preceded by some great tunes ("Anyday Now" and "Baby It's You" come to mind), the third of three out-and-out r'n'b masterpieces by Bacharach/David, performed by their dream stylist, DW.

  • this woman makes a lot of shit out of everything good.

    horrible

  • she's been nominated for player hater of the year!

  • has to be one of the greatest songs of all time

  • i never realized that slick rick used these lyrics in the Mona Lisa song lol.!

  • @missalexbishes01 i know slick rick was a lil genius himself the way he sampled this track

  • JUST EVER SO BEAUTIFULLY NOSTALGIC, THANKX.

  • In 1996, I had flown in to Borneo (Sarowak). Light aircraft in to the jungle.. Small airstrip, then a boat up a river.. Then started walking to see a cave where millions of bats fly out at sunset.. Half way up the track.. I hear "walk on by" by Dionne.. It was coming from a small hut.. I loved the song anyway, but it was so unreal.. Just had to stop and listen... This is timeless and simply fantastic !

  • Oh you just gotta love these pre-Beyonce songs when women just got by on their INCREDIBLE singing voices and didn't feel the need to dress like street walkers!!

  • Quality song :) puts me in a good mood.

  • One person deserves to be passed by like a freight train passing a hobo!

Blessed be the trinity of Burt,Hal and Dionne along with the poster!

TRULY,THEY'VE MADE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE!

    THANKS!

  • I remember that this song knocked Love Letters out of the #1 spot.

  • Love this song.

  • Pretty good voice! Nothing spectacular, yet there is something enchanting and melancholy about it. It must be the Burt Bacharach magic! I know that if I had one shot at fame, I would want Burt to write my song.

  • AM radio pop music at it's best... Masterpieces of work and performance.

  • I'm 24 yrs old. This song resonates with anyone of any age or in any time.

  • this song (as interpreted by DW) just kills me, i can not find the words... it is the compleat pop tune.

  • Whitney Houston should've followed her in that direction.

  • I can't improve upon all the superlatives about our elegant lady already written in these comments, but I CAN call attention to the fact that the production is another typical, high-quality Nocaro presentation.

  • @MysticSojourner

what ever happened to music like this?

  • Her vocals are like lyrical crystal

  • one of the greatest pop songs ever written, arranged, performed, and sung! a desert island mix tape for sure!

  • @glueconcern LOL, I totally agree...Nocaro

  • one of my many favorites by Dionne.....and the amazing Burt Bacharach........thank you for posting this classic!!!

  • One of my earliest memories.....listening to this on a transistor radio late at night, remember those??.....it was pure magic.

  • AMAZING!

  • I love this song. What a voice! Smooth as silk........
