  • man he should really get the MOH!

  • I read this book while on base at Fort. Knox, doing rehab on injuries for 4 months. Its a great read that is both gripping and inspiring.

  • God bless that man, i read his heroic book and it changed my view on war, God bless him!

  • This book is intense, Ive read this book a dozen times

  • one of the best books i read, especially at the end..he gets the shit beat out of him...he pounds his helmet into the insurgents face and then the insurgent touches his face...youd have to read to find more!its a good book!read it in under a month!(im a slow reader)did it in 3 weeks...

  • My brother is in this book

    Shaun Juhasz (Forward Observer)

  • This guy lives 5 miles away from me. I got my book signed by him when he did a signing at the local bookstore. Amazing guy what a true warrior, me and my friend just talked to him for a good 30 minutes. I even got to shake his hand.

As for the book: like he himself told me, it's no literary masterpiece, it's just his graphic, brutal, uncensored memoirs of the battle of Fallujah.

Lol I remember he said "There is some swearing in it, but I'm sure you guys have heard it all before."

  • Greatest book on the Iraq conflict I've read to date.

  • By far the best book about the war in Iraq. I read heaps of them and this one stands out a mile. Amazing!

  • @hessbamboo

with out a doubt a great book, respect to David Bellavia a true warrior, if you enjoyed this book ,heres a another on par with it, "Sniper One" by Sgt Danny Mills,

all the best you wont be dissapointed

  • @skinnymason Sniper One, Shooter, Marine Sniperare some of the greatest first hand combat acounts i have ever read man...

  • @Male125

  • @skinnymason sounds like a great read, i will get that definately

  • @hessbamboo This is one of the best books, but Read "My war:killing time in iraq" Equally as good in the same way you connect to the soldiers... Makes me miss the army more and more

  • This book really is a compelling read... the up close and personal nature of the fighting, the intensity of the comradeship of the unit members, the relentless nature of urban warfare... SSG Bellavia has put together a brilliant portral of his experience in close quarters battle against highly trained and motivated foes. I would definitely recommend this as a must read book.

My thanks to all the service men and woman who risk their lives daily to make our lives safer...

  • This guy looks like an out of shape businessman man. BUT OMG he is a WARRIOR! Looks play no role... I have TREMENDOUS respect for this man.. HOLY SHIT!!

  • i love this book ive read it 2 times allready

  • @GageAndrist13 I got 4 hehehe.

  • I am listening to it. Try the audio book!

  • @Thx1138d the audio book i got was great very well narrated , i really enjoyed this book it was just awesome

  • I listened to it twice. My service was ordinary compared to his.

  • i love this guy

  • House to House: One of the best first-person war accounts I have ever read. Simply incredible.

Thank you, SSG Bellavia. Thank you.

  • what a book

  • amazing book! i read it while in afghanistan and i took a lot of ways to be a good leader from it! truly inspiring!

  • he looks totally different than I imagined him

  • dude this is sweet

  • I love this book soo much, read it 3 times so far and i dont tend to stop quite yet. Incredible bravery!

  • how much is that book? and where can i get it?

  • amazing book

  • To anyone who read his book I would also recommend The Lone Survivor. It's a story about the worst day in U.S. Special Forces history, and the ordeal of a navy seal sniper who made it through.

  • This is an amazing book, Second time through this week.

  • This guy is the real deal

  • I just finished reading the book. I have read many books on this topic but this is by far the most detailed and thrilling book i have ever read. It makes you appreciate the hardship these guys went through. I can just imagine how it must feel to return to the US straight after being through all this. A massive anticlimax?

  • Loved this book, my favorite nonfiction book for sure! Thanks David for writting this and thank you for your service!

  • one of the best books ive ever read

  • Absolutely incredible book. Best war story I have ever read.

  • I read this book, it was really good.

  • best book you can read about Iraq and our troops.

  • I concur, I have it now, im half way through it, I can't put it down till im done, course I have to so i can go to work, drive, eat , shit shower and shave

  • 10/193 hooah

  • The same commander that SSG Bellavia had in 2004 is now my brigade commander here in iraq. Our commander COL Peter Newell talks about task force 2-2 and operation phantom fury...i learned about this battle before i read the book. so i had to read it...i was very impressed.

  • Thats me, refused to do some boring ass MOS. IF i'm going to serve i'm going all the way. I never expected honor or credit for doing it. ITs something i wanted to do nothing more nothing less. Other people deserve credit, but the men and woman who knowingly put themselves in harms way deserve alot more. Because other people knowingly picked a rear echelon job because they want the benefits and the credit of serving from everyone. Big difference between infantry and ammo techs credibility.

  • i loved that book.... he explained it so well everything every detail.. im 15 years old and this book made me want to join up....

  • Of course Hollyweird won't make 'House to House' into a movie or anything like that in this age of 'HOPE'. I would like to see a Film Saga based on the book but c'mon. When that Stalingrad-esque battle was fought it was not covered. Instead the verdict of the hubby in the Lacey Peterson murder trial got ALL the attention. ALL of it. Stupid public. Micheal Jackson death too...idiots.

  • I hope it is a good movie. Army life is so misunderstood by Hollywood. Black Hawk Down came close.

  • @Thx1138d

So all the movies ever made aren't anywhere near...so you;ve never seen or read "We were Soldiers", "Full Metal Jacket"...god there is so many to mention. None of them reveal the actual grit of Army life...however they all do come close.

  • They weren't bad. I personally liked Patoon . The Outhouses in Desert Storm were copied off of the movie Platoon.

  • I love how he compares the infantry to the other branches of the army. Even though this wasnt the main focus of the book, he has proved that yet again, the us army has had more involvement in major battles than history tells us. Hey, the marines corps is an honorable and very well respected branch and they live up to their reputation. Being a soldier myself I gotta say I wish that soldiers would get more credit than they've gotten in the past decade

  • David Bellavia gave such a realistic vivid earthy and at time horrifying account of war. And to me, showed that despite our modern tech and the "low intensity" status of conflict that Iraq was in 2004, that people still died, much blood was shed, and the immense terror of troops in combat, regardless of what war it is...it defiinately made me think twice about whether I am prepared to join the Infantry, or if I really want to. This sort of book has never been written before. Good work.

  • his book, among other things, is the reason i joined the infantry.

there's no army without the infantry.

  • I still want to join the infantry, and you're right there is no army without the infantry. But you have to really reall deeply think about whether you(generally speaking you, not specifically you) are prepared to do and see the things described in the book. That is not some dumb video game, its real and its horrific. You need to know and accept it, and think again about ur decision, and after that, if u still r willing. Then u know u REALLY want to join. This book was that for me

  • This is by far the best book i have ever read, and SGT Bellavia is a real hero and role model, and would oneday love to be in the Australian Army serving my country

  • David's book " House to House" is a superbly written book which, i feel, really touches on the emotions, camaraderie, love and sacrifice our soldiers have and give. In my opinion a Must Read for anyone interested in what our soldiers go through. Check it out. Much thanks to David and all who have sacrificed on our behalf.

  • just finished the book. was the part with the hand to hand fight with the insurgent real?

  • Yes. He received many awards for his actions that day. If he got awards, it means someone confirmed that he used his knife, that he did what he said, etc.

  • ya i guess. my fav part was when he saw those 2 phillipino insurgents that had died together. he went to check em for intel and he found a wallet with a pic of both of them as brothers. made the experience very emotional.

  • I was crying when I was reading the part about his son and his words to his father about going back to Iraq. The book encompasses almost every emotion.

  • i just started reading this book. im 15 and im a gamer. i always thought war is just like...not this. omg. my views have been completely changed. and yes, sgt. bellavia is a true hero.

  • good on ya man! Pass it on when your done, glad to see some younger guys "getting it".

  • Yeah, this book takes you through every emotion of that battle. I read it in a day.

  • Same here man I want to be a marine and I wanted to know what I'd be getting myself into in a few years. I just read the hand to hand fight he had. I was on the edge of my seat the whole chapter.

  • I'm 13 I loved his book. It touched me. I have always loved the military but when I read this I now know SGT. Bellavia is a true here also. I wish more Americans could be like him. I look up to him. I respect him. I honor him. Everyone else should also!

  • BEST BOOK EVER!!!!

  • Another great book is "Hard Corps" by Marco Martinez. He was a gang banger who decided to turn his life around and joined the Marines. He goes to Iraq and earns the Navy Cross for single handily killing several terrorists.

And of course, don't forget "Lone Survivor" by Marcus Luttrell.

  • I met David at the VFF rally in DC. If you like this awesome book, you'll friggin' LOVE "We Were One" by Pat O'Donnell. It's also about Fallujah but it's the Marines and the author is a journalist (not some anti-American dickhead journalist either!) the whole book is clearing one room at a time, fierce battles and lots of dead hajjis!

  • my favourite book its fantastically written makes you feel like your'e right there.

  • i've read it 3 times. it's what made me join the infantry and become a ranger.

  • ha yeah it does have that affect on you good for you have fun man

  • Cover to cover, ass and mind-blowing action and fear for Bellavia and his men that rips you from the very seat you're plonked on. Honestly, this book sits right next to Operation Redwing (by Marcus Lutrell) on my all-time faves on my bookshelf.

  • Awesome book

  • yeah, im finishing it today, great book.

  • This book is the best book I have ever read 11/10 on the book

    David Bellavia is a hero.

  • i'm glad my professor chose this book for us to read and evaluate. there are so many messages the author puts across. once i started reading it, i couldn't put it down. this book is just awesome. great job Staff Sargeant David Bellavia.

  • he looks completley different everytime i see him on these videos

  • I just got his book today. Can't wait to read it :P

    5*s

  • This guy wrote a TREMENDOUS book. It is an extremely moving piece of work. Congrats to the author.
