I stand corrected - the point I was trying to make (and comment on some other views) is they work a lot harder than many assume, and yet their job is at risk every 6 months for as you point out medical reasons - very few jobs place this level of scrutiny on health (though clearly it is warranted for safety reasons)

@swiper1818 you are now correct. The physical is not that intense, but very strict with no "do-overs". Any pilot using his ATP license and whatever type rating that they have must do a physical every 6 months. The physical is not a rubber stamp thing. There are 3 different physicals...class 1 is good for 6 months, a class 2 is good for 12 months and a class 3 is good for 24 months. Any pilot using their license as a "commercial" pilot, must have at least a class 2 (flying for hire).

They don't see their families for days at a time also,.....

Every 2 years they must do a refresher course, called a bi-annual review, to keep their license current. And yes...I am a pilot...retired now with an ATP and a double I.

Sitting in the cockpit of the 747-400 during take-off and landing is an amazing experience. I did it when I was in flt attendant training at United 20-years-ago. Thrilling is the best way to describe it.

I think I know how to handle one of these things. Been doing it for 25 years. But it's like I said, the difference between me and a line pilot is talent, experience, good looks and lots of money. Take away all that from those glory boys and they're nothin. ;)

No offense, but your video isn't all good at the take off. During the take off you should have zoomed out and kept a focus on the windshield so it wouldn't be too bright to see it. That would have made the take off look interesting. Other than that it's pretty good.

When making a video of people doing something, always keep the camera aas absolutely still as you can. In this vid you have allowed your anxiety to sjow absolutely everything and your inability to focus on anything for more than 2 seconds to create a jumpy, anxious, meaningless montage of fractured images. Today I read what I was expecting for years in the newspapers: most pilots don't know how to fly the plane manually anymore, the FAA has found out that most accidents where due to pilot error, they blame most cases due automatisation.. I have always said there must be a flight engineer on board, simply cause pilots aint technicians and that's needed in certain emergency..common sense..not a checklist, and pilots must do more manual flying.
