@anthonyboone its getting annoying that people dont understand the term pseudo - "The prefix pseudo- is used to mark something as false, fraudulent, or pretending to be something it is not." it is a pseudo planche push up because it is an easier way to put your body in a similar position, in theory training you to be able to hold the real position in the future.
@algore1993 i think it's proper to have your hands pointed forward as much as possible, backwards towards your feet makes it easier, but strays away from the purpose i think. I could be wrong though, but i practice mine with foward hands.
@ThePhiAtom thanks i have beenđoing it like that. i think it helps with the balance so you wont fall forward. but i can only do the push ups, not the full planche, just cant lift my legs up :(
@ThePhiAtom some people planche with hands pointing backwards because it is less damaging for the wrists and more similar to the position you would be on the rings. but if you want to planche hands forwards then do it that way. i have stopped most of this type of training now though.
i think having hands facing forward is the best way, it maybe painfull in the start but in the end you gain flexibllity strength and you have better controle over your planches i think ;)
i disagree. i got an injured wrist from doing it like that. also, once you get used to it, its not too hard to do hands backwards.
but you know it depends on the person. maybe for you it feels ok. i have over flexible wrists though so there they lean right to the end of the range of motion and start o hurt my ligaments.
well you can make these as hard as you want. lean as far forward as possible, try doing 5 sets of 5 reps. so hard you fail on the 5th rep
also with your tuck planche. try extending out a little further so its closer to a full planche. and do 5 sets of 12 second holds ( should be so hard that you fail on the 12 second)
Thats not correct. It would be impossible to do a pseudo planche pushup with your wrists at that angle. For the exercise shown, his hands are in the correct place.
That would certainly be possible. Actually it would be more advanced and allow you to move on to more difficult forms. It just takes flexibility in the wrists. Look up Gymnastics Bodies and you will see Coach Sommer's work. The hands facing backwards is easier on one's wrist, though not entirely correct from a gymnastics view.
Its not like its not possible to do it with hands facing backwards....In fact, it is much harder and actually looks nicer with hands facing backwards.
it is both harder and easier in some ways. If you do them facing forward you have to suffer more pain to gain wrist flexibility and forearm strength while backwards you work more on lats, pecs and overall balance.
First off, nice spelling. Second, the hands backward position develops the necessary elbow strength for more advanced skills on rings. Fingers forward is easier for the planches, but it's not right or wrong. For strength development, hands backwards is better. Just be careful, it's easy to push too hard and get tendonitis. Take your time increasing the arm angle! This guy's video is really good. He has the strength for a short straddle planche, at the least.
your forearms are bending backward from your wrist when your arm is fully bent. with that you might as well point your fingers forward.
i think the point of pseudo planche pushups is that you get used to pushups with your arms at an angle. your arms only go at angle to the floor completely when they are straight. have a close look at JLSaiahE's vid. try bneding forearms forwards from wrist.
fingers forwards trains a slightly different part of your shoulder and is more stress on your wrists.
i think most gymnasts train planche with hands pointing backwards or atleast to teh side becasue on rings thats how you have to do it and also i think its safest for your shoulder and wrist
im training planches but have really bad wrists (carpal tunnel syndrome)
Ive found that if i do planches on fists, instead of palms, it puts less pressure on the wrists. I do pushups on my fists for every variation that I do.
Man! How did you get so big? I've been training planche push ups and all related gymnastics exercises since forever, and even though I got a lot stronger my muscles won't grow for shit! Any tips? Secrets?
yo if you wana get big you have to be doing quite maximal contractions. like 8 reps. try doing some weighted things for your chest or like one arm pushups if youd ont have any weights.
cool man! Thanks for the tip! Just one more question.. how many sets do you recommend when working in the 8 rep range? Like 3x8 is enough, or too much? And how many times/week for a particular exercise?
The most important part of getting big when you work out is eating. If you really want to gain size then eat, a lot, more than you need to. If you're eating good food and not just mcdonalds then you should gain lean mass no matter how you work out.
Yup, you have no idea how many people I know that try to get big but just dont eat. Some of them skip breakfast and I keep telling them to eat like a freaking beast and they will get there
Sumo wrestlers (rikishi) skip breakfast, workout till noon so they gain some appetite, eat like monsters, drink a beer and go to sleep until evening. Then they eat some more and go back to sleep. They train a lot! The whole morning and consider that they get up really early.
Yeah totally agreed with moefro777. Just keep on the exercises for the planche, but concentrate on your food. Eat like hell. But eat healthy. Eat a lot with protein. Tuna ect. Good luck.
Of course not. You need to do pulling movements like rows and pull ups to "concentrate" your back. Although this exercise will engage it indirectly, it is mostly working anterior delts, I would think (don't know for sure as I've only done them a few times).
Cool. Nice form. Would you advise doing the pseudos this way, or with the hands forward? I'm getting a bit of wrist pain, might just be the tendons catching up to the rest of the muscles, but I still think it calls for a change.
by the way, congrats on the planche in your latest vid. it's awesome.
What progression did you use after this? I've started with the wall planches, but I don't think it builds enough core strength. Should I work on l-seat to advanced tuck?
yes, because your hands are further back and are using muscles you dont usually use that much. turning your palms back like that just keeps you from screwing up your wrists. try putting your hands back that far and doinga pushup with you palms forward and youll see what i mean!

this kind of planche pushups is more focused on biceps.
it's easy for a gymnast.
anyway, that's very good ;)
SolidshakeProduction 4 years ago
It's really not focused on the biceps, why do people think that? Supinated means the biceps are more shortened, but they're still not working.
It does make it much harder for the triceps though, since they're stronger pronated I think.
