Authentic Southwest Chili, because that's where it originated from(Sister Mary of Areda,Spain) in San Antonia, Tx 1730, DID NOT have BEANS of ANY Kind in it ! Just Meat, whatever was available, usually Beef, Pork,Vension or a combination thereof and Tomato & Tomalito sauces with the Chili Peppers of the various kinds that were native to the San Antonia area that was used by the local Indians in their native dishes. Chili is a Native and the State Dish of Texas and does not have Beans!
@ravensunn WRONG!!! Chili Powder DOES NOT contain Cumin! Cumin is a seperate spice entirely by itself! Chili Powder is made from Dried Roasted Chili peppers that were ground up!
@janietheresa; Cumin is the dried seed of the herb Cuminum cyminum, a member of the parsley family. The cumin plant grows to 30–50 cm (0.98–1.6 ft) tall and is harvested by hand. Cumin seeds resemble caraway seeds, yellow-brown in color, like other members of the Umbelliferae family such as caraway, parsley and dill.
Cumin Seeds has been in use since ancient times. Seeds excavated at the Syrian site Tell ed-Der have been dated to the second millennium BC.
@ravensunn Chili powder is a grind of one or more types of chili peppers.
The chilis used are red chili or cayenne peppers, ancho, Jalapeño,and Pasilla The first blends of chili powder in the U.S. were created by D.C. Pendery & William Gebhardt. Gebhardt opened Miller's Saloon in New Braunfels,Tx.Gebhardt imported some ancho peppers from Mexico and ran the peppers through a meat grinder 3 times and made the first commercial chili powder in 1894.

Try using some chipotle chili powder as opposed to regular chili powder. It would go good with the brown sugar too!

Nice. I'm going to try this without the beef and substitute it with turkey. I'll also use chicken broth instead of beef.
