@DarknessDragon71 Because bullets aren't that useful against Tigrex, he moves about to fast to make them worth using. When you fire a bullet, you can't block or dodge, so to be safe, I simply don't use them against him.

Get Good at dodging and you can Bowgun or Arbalest almost any monster.

Though Evade +2 and evade Distance Increase will help with narga and tigrex.

@ZweiEin21 It depends on the monster youre fighting, if you're fighting something weak to shelling ( gravios, fatalis, basarios etc ) then use Tigrex for more damage, if youre fighting anything else, Naruga is generally better, I just prefer the Tigrex GL over the naruga one, no actual reason for it :P

If you wanna use a Gunlance, go at him with the one I'm using in the video ( Maximum Voltage ),and I recommend an armour set with High Grade Earplug or High Wind Resistance, they'll be the most useful skills against him, but if you're comfortable avoiding those things, use an armour set with Sharpness+1 and/or Sharpsword instead.

Why use a gunlance? Wouldn't a lance have worked just as well? I mean you only used wyvern fire once and that was right at the end. And you didn't shoot with it... forgive me if you did outside the video =P

@Gemneroth I use gunlances because I love the way they handle compared to a regular lance, and the reason I dont shell Tigrex is because it leaves me with a wide opening in which I can hurt.

The amount I shell depends entirely on the monster I'm fighting, sometimes I won't shell at all ( Tigrex ), other times I'll pretty much ONLY shell ( Gravios, Fatalis etc ).

It all comes down to the monster :)

@ThunderofBabylon Bow's dps is way too low. I'd be curious ofwhat your definition of 'finishing the game' is because killing a G-Rank Tigrex with a bow would take around 20 minutes, even with Heroics.

and the reason of using bow is the flexibility in combat

yes bow have low dps but this can be compensated by higher frequency of hit rate

also the use of thunder element bow and the usage of sleep coating/Bombing tactics which proved to be very effective

@ThunderofBabylon Actually, no, even using the best thunder bow in the game (Khezu Bow II), hitting as often as possible (nearly always), aiming for the head, AND using Heroics, you'd be doing Longsword damage at BEST.

That's what you have to trade for the fact that it's basically impossible to get hit while using a bow.

@ThunderofBabylon Elemental damage is useless with GS', unless you use the old side-up swing combo, which you should never, ever do. Idea of GS nowadays is to wait for openings for Lv3 charges. Tigrex has tons of them - he's fast, but predictable. That's why GS is so good against him.

hey what type of weapon do you think is best? im kinda new at the game. i started using the gunlance which i think is pretty easy to use but i also like the dual swords and ive done like 30 quests with them but they suck when fighting big monsters. great swords are really slow but idk if you can speed up attacks. any advice would be greatly appreciated

Don't get me wrong, LS is a great and very underrated weapon. But it's an AWFUL weapon for Tigrex, whereas GS is the ideal weapon.

Actually Shin, longsword can match that, and pretty much wipe the floor with the GS.

8 minutes is nothing, G-Rank rex will go down with LS in about 5-6 minutes if done correctly.

It means that if my health is above 70%, then if a monster does an attack that would normally kill me, i will survive with ONE HP, and NO red bar at all, meaning anything can kill me, heat, being kicked etc until i heal.

Make a Gunlance in the weaponsmith, if you cant see any options available yet, then you need to gather more materials from quests. Alternatively, make some lances as they often upgrade into gunlances.

And no, in Monster Hunter 1 there was no gunlance, it first appeared in I THINK, Monster Hunter Frontier Online, then later in Monster Hunter Portable 2nd ( Freedom 2 ).

is shelling and wyvern's fire not useful at G and high rank quests?

from what i know, shelling damage does not improve alot while the poke damaage improves more ( from low rank to higher rank )

so its kinda confusing whether to use a mix of shelling and raw OR just purely use the poke attack and save sharpness too.

shelling ang wyvern's fire are improved in mh2g and mhfu, so long as you have gunnery master or king.

WF is very usefull when a monster is asleep;put some large barrel bombs+ and pull your trigger..such will deal a huge amount of damage!

in the case of saving sharpness, just equip grinder skill or gem, or sharp sword.

When you have your weapon on your back, hold R ( to run ), and while holding it ( you need to be moving ), press Triangle and Circle at the same time. It instant guards.
