why do people try to argue what is better or best when clearly you are just expressing your own personal tastes? It's mind boggling. Get a grip young people, give this pointless pissing contest a break and enjoy music. Better, create your own.
Here's the funniest part. No Matter What YOU say........Now Stay with me here......No Matter What You Say.......I am Going to Disagree. Because I know MM's cover was much better.
@NationofTheUnknown Magnet's cover sucked, get over it. They were the lesser band, no one disagrees lol. Hell, even J.McBain & Dave themselves would laugh at your face for spouting off some bullshit like that :-) No offense if you've got bad taste or a poor ear for quality ;-) Cheers!!
And for the record, Monster Magnet's version sounds like every other MM song. Not that it's a bad thing, but certainly nothing coming close to the grandeur of this mammoth cover. They completely reconstructed the song (for the better, if you were to ask me). The MM version just sounds like the band jamming the song out, nothing more. Same with the SG version. Exhorder's is hilarious, but c'mon, that band doesn't even walk the same ground as a band like Kyuss :-/
@ConiferTreez Nooo Shit they Jammed out, That's what Stoner/Psychedelic Rock is famous for And By the way. Adding Bongo's, a few extra Solo measures and Detuning Isn't "RECONSTRUCTING" Anything.
I just reckon it shows what a great song it is - clearly the bands are all fans. My old band used to open our set with it based on this version without the wigout in the middle. Always got the crowd warmed up. we did warpigs, NIB, Black Sabbath too. Loved every minute of it.
@joyceycousteau I love the wig-out in the middle! Totally sets this version apart from eeeeevvvvverybody else's version of this bad-ass but over-covered song!
Oh are we doin this? Oh yeah this is happening. As far as covers go, Monster Magnet has the best cover version of "Into The Void" The Vocals are Raunchier, the guitars have a heavier, rocking tone and the stuff they added fit the song awesomely. Kyuss rocks, Soundgarden is shit in general but Monster Magnet sets the example.
@NationofTheUnknown not a fucking chance. MM's cover sucked, and Soundgarden's first 3 albums are classics, what the fuck are you smoking? This is the greatest cover of this track.
@grazzly1 Dude go with whoever you want, it's personal Preference. A lot of people Like Kyuss's Version I'm not one of 'em. I heard MM's version long before Kyuss's and that's probably why I don't like it as much. Love kyuss and the cover but it's not the best in MY Opinion. :)
@ConiferTreez You're fucking kidding yourself. Exhorders Version is even better than Kyuss's. Kyuss Rocks and has a good cover but it's Good. That's all. MM has the best, Exhorder comes in Second and Soundgarden, well let's be honest they're no Audioslave ;D
@ConiferTreez HAHAHAHAHA! Yeeeeeaaaah right. Maybe if Johns Voice had more Character. You're jizzing over the fact they added Bongo's. MM added Feeling, They actually Rock out and enjoy what their playing, you can hear it in every recording.
I'm torn as to whether I like the original, this cover or Soundgarden's better. There's not much betwixt them, but I think that this one is the weakest. Garcia's voice lets it down, he's just not got the range. Soundgarden tops the lot - Cornell has the best voice of the three, and compared to this version Thayil's solo is better, his sound is clearer, if not as heavy, Ben Shepherd's bass playing is much better, Matt Cameron is a better drummer... but I still like this for that desert doom vibe.
@UNTC321 - really? I've just read the lyrics (Kyuss use the originals, Soundgarden totally re-write the song) and I think they're great! They're addressing a different, albeit related, subject area to the original 'evil in today's world at the time of the space race, the hope of finding somewhere new without evil' theme - the conflict between the white man and the 'Indian' Natives in America. It's not the same but it's equally good IMO.
@EccentricRichard Are you kidding? I am a Sabbath fan first and foremost . I just heard this version a few weeks ago for the first time. It is the best "cover" of this song out there. Original, rocks, and Kicks complete ass!
@jonnyrocketballs69 I saw Kyuss at the Palladium in '92 or '93 and he was bumping Ampeg V-4s and I saw QOTSA in 2001 and he was playing the same V-4s.
@Audioslave3 HAH c'mon now, Soundgarden were a great band, but Kyuss in it's prime was a mighty beast, right up there with Sabbath & Zeppelin. They made Soundgarden sound like Creed, no offense.
@ConiferTreez Well, Soundgarden were(we'll see if they still are) the band that combined Sabbath and Zeppelin's sound the best. And I can't think of any more experimenting bands than them, the difference from one album to another is clear while they were able to keep their style and sound.
@Scrappy1138 Oh no, not latin percussion in a rock song! That's not approved by the Generic Rock Handbook. Someone drag these spics out back and deport them along with Santana!
This song is fucking sick!!! Original is still timeless but well done Kyuss! Hey look at those silly fuckers arguing about whats best haha why wont they realise, its all good! Peace
Sounds like a freakin country singer singin Sabbath. What's with the twanginess of his vocals. FUUUUCK, I wish people would stop doing this kinda crap. Do it right, or DON'T DO IT. Ur momma must be proud.

That way you might know how to construct a sentence correctly. I'll speak about Kyuss as much as I want, because I can.
@kvq1999 Agree with U Monster Magnet R A special Band!! But Like Soungarden Metallica and so many more B 4 them they dont get what SABBATH were about .... BUT with KYUSS ... I think they pull it off in A modern way!!!

Christ do you guys really think the Kyuss version is HEAVIER? Syringe your ears.
@salladloot In your world, perhaps. It's all subjective. Personally, I'll take Soundgarden and Sabbath over this. The vocals and guitar(despite what amps are being used) are better, and there's no contest on drums. Matt Cameron blows all y'all away. In my opinion :-)
@ledzeppelin1975 I'll take Exhorder over this and soundgarden's. I'll take this over soundgarden's. I'll take Sabbath's over all the others. That being said I enjoy each version.
@salladloot Actually, that was your opinion from the comment you left on the Soundgarden version. I just cut and pasted it, switched Kyuss to Soundgarden, took out the inapplicable comment regarding Kyuss' vocals, and made a spelling correction. I personally don't like using words like "pussy" when discussing music.
@ledzeppelin1975 Reconsider your concept of music.. Soundgarden cover is a bad imitation. This version has different tuning, different time, different vocals.. It's a reinterpretation, and that's what a cover should be.. Everyone can imitate. I usually like cornell's voice, but in this song is just a very very bad imitation of ozzy's..
@Axel89fi Oh WOW!!! You know, you're RIGHT!!! Hell, I never looked at it THAT way!!! Thank god you came along and pointed out the deficiencies in my music conceptualization!!! Jesus CHRIST, I would have been preferring that horrible Soundgarden version and looking like an ass doing it were it not for your enlightening comment!!! THANK YOU SIR!!!! Thank you so much.....if only I knew how to repay you :-(
@DontBeAPussy1 I don't know if that's true. I was around Frank and all those folks during the Man's Ruin Kyuss/Fumanchu days. I'd bet, though, that all the "sludge" bands are 70's influenced as well as 80's punk. I mean, shit, you can't argue that Fumanchu turned "Godzilla" into the song it should have been from the start...
i heard that the kyuss guys dint really care much for sabbath when they started. that is, they weren't massively influenced by them, their main influences were black flag and the like. the only reason they did this cover was that the guy from man's ruin records (the label that released the ep) was interested to hear their version of into the void. can anyone confirm this?!
I'm a **HUGE** Sabbath fan [as u all should be] since forever. I've gotta say, holy crap, anytime somebody comes close to owning a Tony Iommi riff, HOLY CRAP!!! :DDDDDDD
@williamwelker2 Kyuss wasnt a garage band, they were a stoner rock band. And they wont go anywhere anymore since theyve split up and formed other bands such as queens of the stone age and other bands. Theyre doing a reunion tour in 2011 though. Check out the "Welcome to Sky vally" album.
I'm a douche. This just wasn't that good. Are they a garage band? Then yeah, they did a good job. Might go somewhere. Tongue in cheek. It is not without it's charms however. Rock on.

No cover is better than the original. It has to be judged on it's own merit and one vital question has to be answered---Does it pay homage to the original? The answer here is HELL YEAH baby! Kyuss took an immortal tune, injected thier own brand of sludge into it and made a cover that Tony Iommi is listening to right now as we speak and nodding his head in approval! Awesome post dude.
@smacman68 Hendrix's All Along the Watchtowers is better than the original. And many will prefer Clapton's version of Cocaine. But yeah, nobody has bettered any Sabs songs that I know of.
@smacman68 I Think Kyuss' version sounds better than Sabbath's but only cuz it came 25 years later... Sabbath pioneered this type of slow, tuned down, bass heavy rockin, but you have to expect some improvement on it after 25 years, and Kyuss, being the greatest heavy band of all time, made it heavier.

Someone might die.
salladloot 11 months ago
@salladloot Yeah, I'm sure someone's gonna die over comments left on YouTube. Come get it, tough guy.
Anyone who thinks this version is heavier than the Soundgarden version has no concept of music.
As far as pure heaviness and bass, and kickass music....the Soundgarden cover wins flat out.
This is a pussy version in my opinion.
ledzeppelin1975 11 months ago
@ledzeppelin1975
Yeah?.. Well that's just like... your opinion, man.
I meant someone might die from listening to this, not from youtube comments, btw.
salladloot 11 months ago
@salladloot Actually, that was your opinion from the comment you left on the Soundgarden version. I just cut and pasted it, switched Kyuss to Soundgarden, took out the inapplicable comment regarding Kyuss' vocals, and made a spelling correction. I personally don't like using words like "pussy" when discussing music.
ledzeppelin1975 11 months ago
@ledzeppelin1975
What spelling correction did you make? I kind of take pride in making grammatically proper posts.
Oh yeah, and fuck Soundgarden.

@salladloot "I kind of take pride in making grammatically proper posts."
Then I'd use spellcheck from now on, because evidently you're not as smart as you think you are.
"Oh yeah, and fuck Soundgarden."
What are you, a 12 year-old?
ledzeppelin1975 11 months ago
@ledzeppelin1975 Reconsider your concept of music.. Soundgarden cover is a bad imitation. This version has different tuning, different time, different vocals.. It's a reinterpretation, and that's what a cover should be.. Everyone can imitate. I usually like cornell's voice, but in this song is just a very very bad imitation of ozzy's..
Axel89fi 11 months ago
@Axel89fi Oh WOW!!! You know, you're RIGHT!!! Hell, I never looked at it THAT way!!! Thank god you came along and pointed out the deficiencies in my music conceptualization!!! Jesus CHRIST, I would have been preferring that horrible Soundgarden version and looking like an ass doing it were it not for your enlightening comment!!! THANK YOU SIR!!!! Thank you so much.....if only I knew how to repay you :-(

Better than the original, and much heavier. Bass is about to explode.

This is fuckin great. I love Kyuss.

Great version, but I don't know as we needed the overly long guitar solo/jam in the middle.

DontBeAPussy1 1 year ago
@DontBeAPussy1 I don't know if that's true. I was around Frank and all those folks during the Man's Ruin Kyuss/Fumanchu days. I'd bet, though, that all the "sludge" bands are 70's influenced as well as 80's punk. I mean, shit, you can't argue that Fumanchu turned "Godzilla" into the song it should have been from the start...
stizodd 1 year ago
i heard that the kyuss guys dint really care much for sabbath when they started. that is, they weren't massively influenced by them, their main influences were black flag and the like. the only reason they did this cover was that the guy from man's ruin records (the label that released the ep) was interested to hear their version of into the void. can anyone confirm this?!
(for the record, this shit is heavy)

Exhorder version is the best
kane555444 1 year ago
@kane555444 exhorder version is no jam and more copy
yovioleatuzorramadre 1 year ago
@yovioleatuzorramadre Probally cause Exhorder is talented :/
kane555444 1 year ago
@kane555444 and yes, they made a COPY of it, 0 jam, 0 improvisation, 0 experimentation, 0 creativity, that is "talented"? never in this world.
Exhorder is gay, Kyuss rocks, this version is better, specially because of the ending jam and bass, deal with it.

But yeah, nobody has bettered any Sabs songs that I know of.
aaaarrrgggghh 10 months ago
@smacman68 I Think Kyuss' version sounds better than Sabbath's but only cuz it came 25 years later... Sabbath pioneered this type of slow, tuned down, bass heavy rockin, but you have to expect some improvement on it after 25 years, and Kyuss, being the greatest heavy band of all time, made it heavier.

This is a great cover. Even though I usually love the part when the songs speeds up, I think what they did was actually pretty good
