  • I would like to hear a reasonable, intelligent, and fair argument in favor of Unions; any union, electrical, grocery, auto Why do we need unions today when we have fair employment laws, safety laws, labor laws what value does a Union serve?

Please, only intelligent, honest answers / bloggers need respond

  • Through unions, workers win better wages, benefits and a voice on the job. Union jobs mean stronger communities. Workers earn 30% more than nonunion and are more likely to receive health care and pension benefits than nonunion. In 2007, avg weekly union wage was $863, Nonunion $663. Unions

today fight for better lives of all workers, through expanded family/ medical leave, improved safety/ health protection and fair-trade agreements lifting the standard of living of workers all over the world.

  • I was not aware that Unions author free trade agreements, I thought that was governments and companies.

I understand all your other comments and see the improvements for workers, but shouldnt free enterprise itself direct that? If I am the best guy for my job, my company hires me and pays me accordingly. If I dont like the hour, benefits or salary, its my choice to find a new job. I guess I dont understand why unions are different.

thank you for your honest reply though.

  • The unions did not author the Free Trade Agreements. Your are correct. I was meaning that the unions were trying to to make them more fair for the American companies; so that we can equally compete in a global economy.

  • @tjw12 what are YOU gonna do about it ?
