  • Great job man....!

  • Just wondering if this would work with the ns7 if i were to run it through ssl instead. Theres only one output so I am confused on how to plug it into the rane sound cards and if the mixer would work perfectly.

  • @schijfgram: sorry, this won't work with the NS7. this setup requires individual inputs, hence the V7s. I'm using them as you would use CDJs with timecoded CDs, except the traktor timecode is coming from ITCH. haha, it's 2012 and people still keep stumbling over this video... I should've explained it better, but I was in a hurry. sorry about that.

  • so why can you just midi map the v7's or am i missing somethng :S

  • @JDProductionsTM: you CAN midi map the V7s, but if you want the platters to work properly a timecode workaround is required - because NI won't support the NS7/V7 platters. it's not because it can't be done - it's because the NS7 and V7 are killer controllers and NI are keeping the competition out. it has never been about making life easier for the DJs, that's marketing talking :/

  • @traenq ahh safe im sure i can drum up some code for it :P

  • why itch + traktor? i don't have itch

  • would it work with traktor scratch duo?

  • @The1Chappy: yes. why shouldn't it? you just have two decks instead of four, the principle remains unchanged.

  • what happens if you get to the end of the timecode tracks?

  • @doctorG0NZ0: same thing that happens when you get to the end of a timecode CD. but the TC tracks are 27 minutes in length, so that should be enough for any EDM track.

  • So you need a Traktor box for sound, right?

  • @kryptonitejesus: yes. in this case, I am using an evo5 which is a traktor certified mixer; it has a traktor compatible audio interface built in. but unless you own one of those certified mixers, an audio4/6/8/10 is necessary. you are using the V7s as if they were timecode CD players with MIDI control capability. like I said many times over, this is a workaround - not a solution.

  • Very unpractical. Slick but unpractical.

  • cue points and looping can be controlled with the X1 alongside the V7?

  • i saw somewhere that NI is working on mappers for v7...cant be sure if its true though.

  • @4321cm: rumours. you can start believing them when NI actually drops a traktor version that supports V7s, not before that.

  • @traenq numark stated that when someone in FB asked about it when ns6 was released, but then again thats numark saying it, hopefully its true. until then i'll try this workaround with TP2. Great job BTW.

  • so you can only play with traktor on v7s for 27 min? and can you control all four decks w/ traktor and v7s?

  • @DjBesd: name one EDM track that is longer than 27 min :) in comparison, the vinyl runtime is 15 min on the non-scratch side. if you want to play back mixes during warmup, you can always switch to internal mode. I haven't tested the newest release of itch yet, but I'm guessing you can load the traktor timecode onto four decks - and since the V7s have 2 audio outputs, with two of the units you should be able to play with 4 decks in traktor. keep in mind that this is merely a workaround!

  • @traenq i kno buit say i wanted to do a 45 minute gig or whatever. work?

  • @DjBesd: yes. 27 minutes of timecode means you can play back an unlimited number of tracks that are up to 27 minutes long each.

  • @traenq

i have not tried this yet and i am hoping to try using traktor duo to test but if i was going to use traktor SL would the two v7s be able to play 4 decks?

  • @DjBesd: take a look at the traktor LE featureset: it clearly says "two decks", so you'd need traktor scratch pro or traktor scratch pro 2. with itch 2.0, you can use four decks, that means you can load the TSP timecode onto 4 decks. but that won't help you unless you have a version of traktor that can handle 4 timecode inputs plus an audio interface like the audio8 or audio10, or a certified mixer. do some research man - no offense, but you're asking google questions here.

  • @traenq but two v7s cannot control 4 decks in itch so i wouldnt think it would work with 4 decks on tsp

  • @DjBesd: you can control 4 decks with even one timecode input - because you can assign one input to multiple decks and switch deck control, as you would on the V7s anyway. you play two tracks on A&B, set playback mode to internal on A&B and timecode on C&D. for example. then you just keep switching back and forth. again, this is a google question...

  • @traenq okkkk okkk haha thanks ill try it . do you use traktor with v7s when mixing or do you still stick with itch

    \

  • I was looking at the V7s and I'm using Traktor and there aren't really any controllers like the V7 that I can find that work natively in Traktor. I'm not a scratcher, I'm a regular DJ, I was wondering, would you say this is a viable solution if I were to buy some V7s specifically for Traktor or is it more a "You can but don't spend £1000 on some V7s just for TSP"? That made sense in my head :P

  • This process will inevitably increase latency although probably just a few milliseconds

  • @AeroplaneDope: yes - of course it will. it's a workaround, not a solution :) but I was surprised that it actually wasn't too bad even on this old macbook. real hardcore turntablists would notice, but then real hardcore turntablists don't use anything besides vinyl. for blending tracks, it's more than enough.

  • just bought the numark x5 and want the v7s, if works with a 2 ch mixer. would it work with a 2 channel mixer ? and with the audio 4 dj together..?

    thanks !

  • @djninob23: yes, of course it would. remember, you're just using the V7s as if they were timecode CD players. so yes, it will work with ANY mixer if you own an audio4dj or an audio8dj and TS duo/pro.

  • I'm lovin the room!

  • Does the "Bleep" in Traktor workin as a normal Bleep in Numarks products ??

Im mad about that effect since I had CDX's :)

    Rgds

    mark

  • @MAYDAYDEEJAY: yep, in fact exactly as it does on the CDX/HDX. I had one too .) that effect can be reproduced in traktor scratch pro though.

  • Can You Control 4 Decks With 2 V7's?

  • @EmanuelJayR: if you switch between internal playback an timecode control (as you would when you use 2 turntables and play with 4 decks), you can control 4 decks even with one V7.

  • Has anyone tried hooking the V7's to a mixer not Traktor certified? If so how would you hookup the V7's, the mixer and the Audio 8 DJ? I have a DDM4000 and trying to figure it out so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  • Hey Nice video and guess what lol you made me buy the v7 with this video. I have the korg zero4 and vci 100 and I wanted to buy a big deck midi controller to scratch I do have the tsp time code ripped off anyways I did everything that u showed on the video but is not working for me I don't know why when u said on 1:43 to put the second track on traktor input 4 I didn't get it that what i need to do could please explain. To make work do i need have low audio latency ? thanks Cheers

  • Ok,my question is why would you want to use traktor scratch pro with the V7's if it comes with Serato itch which is basically the same software as SSL? Not needed.

  • @civicdoc: itch is excellent software, but it's also in many ways inferior to SSL and especially to traktor. you can play excellent dj-sets with both (hell, you can rock a party with winamp if you play the right music) - but most traktor users won't want to change, because going from traktor to itch would be a serious downgrade. I'm just saying: if someone is really inclined to use the V7s with TSP, it's possible. nothing more. peace :)

  • @traenq Point well taken. Traktor is better than Itch but i just find it's not needed if it comes with itch. but hey to each his own. Like you said as long as you know how to rock a party it doesn't matter what your using.

  • @traenq thanks for the video...by the way what scratch sample are u using and where can i get it? I'm still learning to scratch! Looking to upgrade to the V7 and X5 mixer at the moment.

  • @tranjohn: you should check out the "DIY skratching" DVDs by qbert or if you have the money, take a look at the online courses at qskratchu[dot]com. regarding the samples, go to beatport and look for the artist "peabird". he has several battle records on there, you should get all the standard samples no matter which one you buy :) have fun!

  • @traenq thanks for the info dude! I just got my v7 couple weeks ago and it's freaking awesome!!! Also when u commented that u can use 4 decks with 1 v7, do u mean in itch or traktor?

  • @tranjohn Well dont use itch mate it SUCKS!

  • @traenq Can You Control 4 Decks With 2 V7's?

  • @EmanuelJayR: I can control four decks with one V7. no big deal. just switch timecode input and use deck focus.

  • @civicdoc Simply: Traktor the best.

  • you can use other programs even though it comes with itch.. would i be able to use serato

  • Hello could you give the mappage of the v7 in traktor because it has been four days since I try to adjust the spinning platter in traktor unsuccessfully. Thank you for this good video :)

  • @bulledoseur: there is no special mapping of any kind. in fact, I haven't mapped a single button from the V7 inside traktor. just take the timecode CD, rip it to WAV or MP3, load it up in itch and use the V7 like you would use a CD deck with a timecode CD loaded into it. nothing more is required to have the platter spin.

  • lol waterpipes

  • @emielgrosjean: there is this one track by green day... ;)

  • is there a 45 mode on the v7

  • @djcrossfade: AFAIK you can set the platter speed from within itch. you can then adjust the traktor settings to match - at least that's my guess, I haven't tried it (but I can do it if you want). should work though.

  • now thats a review :)

  • @djcrossfade: thanks, I'll do my best to avoid "uhmmm"s and "errrr"s in the future though. this was an unscripted "quick'n dirty" vid...

  • Nice! I'm using the ns7 w/ itch and my turntables are using traktor scratch. I suppose this is not aplicable to the ns7 since it doesn't have rca outs for each deck. Is that correct?

  • @olegiezer: yes, sadly so. NS7 users will have to wait for NI to come up with a solution. what I've shown here is nothing but a useable workaround...

  • where do u get those samples for th n7?

  • @DJSCREWBIE: battle vinyl, of course. they're all over the place in digital form, even beatport has them (dig through the section "dj tools").

  • Hey dude.. thanx for your tutorial but could you get a little bit more detail to how you make the time codes sound trigger the Itch to make Traktor's wave move. Example, you have the V7 rca cables going to the mixer but is the time codes sound going out the mixer coming out of the master output or monitor output? Or is it the $1500.00 mixer helping you to trigger Traktor? Wait a minute, I just notice in you video that you are using your Audio 8 for the output.

  • @source5656: when you load the TSP timecode into itch, the V7s act like timecode CD players. this is how you connect and use them, just plug them into the line in on your traktor certified audio interface,

  • ...and don't forget to set the timecode source to "CD" rather than "VINYL" inside traktor.

  • Technically this should work with the ns7 as well right? Riping the Traktor cd onto each deck of the ns7 and get the same result as you do with the v7?

  • @LilDemonXIII: yeah. but it would make no sense as the NS7 would be outputting the TSP timecode. thus, its mixer section would make no sense. this mod really is only for the V7s.

  • @traenq Aww man thats to bad. Thanks for replying so fast.

  • You Rock!

  • can u do the same with Scratch live?

  • @hustlekid415: check out the video response (and read the comments).

  • how does that pioneer fx come in other than the effects on traktor???

  • @DJDOMINATE00: didn't quite understand the question, but if you're asking why I have an efx-1000 even though traktor pro has decent effects too - it's probably because I've used it before traktor scratch even existed, and I didn't want to sell it. it does a few things traktor can't do...

  • @traenq its cuz im looking forward on buying one of those.. but im not sure if ill be worth it. since traktor alrdy has fx.

  • @DJDOMINATE00: I suggest you try out traktor's fx first, it takes a while to map everything out on a MIDI controller - but when you're done, you can kick some serious ass .) the efx-1000 is rather expensive.

  • @traenq yea ive been having traktor for long time after switching from traktor scratch..but thanks for the feed back

  • Do you like the V7's better than the NS7? Do you have any pro vs con that you have found since you've had a chance to play with both? It is more flexible but would have to fork out more money for a decent mixer.

  • @wtcbd: pro: complete redundance of control elements controls AND two separate audio interfaces (in case you ever need a backup). con: a few cables to hook up. other than that, no significant difference. if you're happy with the NS7 mixer, no reson to go with the V7s. if you have a nice mixer or want one that does something the NS7 mixer can't, get the V7s. simple :)

  • That looks great. I had that same idea trying to get the NS7 working with virtual DJ last year. Guess it took the V7 to implement this. Posted Fri 17 Jul 09 @ 5:19 am on Virtual DJ forum

    .......

Is there a way to 1) record the time coded signal from vinyl, 2) output the signal from the NS7 RCA to the input of another sound card, (torq conectiv, serato SL1,etc.., 3) have Virtual DJ recognize and be controlled by the time-coded signal coming from the NS7 inputs???

  • @wtcbd: yep, I'm sure we're not the only ones who thought of this (I also had an NS7 before the V7s and it really annoyed me that I was forced to use ITCH). by pure accident, I happen to be the first guy to post a video, that's it.

  • I hooked everything up and it worked with scratch live as well... i posted a response video. please check it out... thanx for the idea and inspiration bro. take care.

  • @remixstudioent: excellent work man, response approved & appreciated!

I've posted a comment on your video, there's a little something you overlooked: remember to turn master tempo OFF on the V7s; this button controls the key lock in ITCH. the timecode track shouldn't be keylocked because it obviously won't work properly. you can still use the key lock inside SSL though!

  • Could this possibly work with serato scratch live??? rip the ssl control signal, load it onto a deck in itch, then run the rca out of the V7 and into SL1 or SL3?

  • @remixstudioent: why not? technically, it's the same workaround - only the software is different. I can't try it out because I don't own SSL, but I'm sure it will work.

  • @traenq Awesome implementation. Didn't even consider playing the timecode through ITCH and feeding it to Traktor. As you said, this would effectively give you full support (except for the minor things you said) through Traktor and it would believe it's a standard timecode-accepting device such as a CD Deck etc.

Will try this when I get a chance, thanks again.

  • sick!!! brilliant idea

  • So would this work around work with the vci-300 plus traktor and would it work with just about any dvs

  • so if this works then it will also work for SSL

  • i guess what im getting at is i think itch gets a bit of a bad rep, but really with the v7 i think it couldnt be more spot on. i considered traktor mainly for the filter on the mixer, because i didnt want spring for an allen and heath, and i wasnt pleased that with my ns7 i could only use external fx on the master output. but with the v7 you can just use the built in fx filter per deck, and use whatever mixer/fx or signal routing you want. cool video tho

  • @diezdiazgiant: yeah, I agree - itch is excellent and so are the V7s, they're exactly what I expected from numark after seeing the NS7 for the first time. but there's a number of features that longtime traktor users would miss if they switched (for me, that would be key correction and a few effects).

  • saving cue points, and loops will not work with this configuration. nor will the browser have full function. im not trying to be negative but really i dont even see the reason for wanting to use both itch and traktor.

  • @diezdiazgiant: maybe you misunderstood the whole point of it... you can very well save cue points and loops - if you do it inside traktor. you can use the 5 hotcues on the V7 for spontaneous beatmashing without affecting the cue points and loops you might have stored inside traktor. regarding the browser, well I guess it all depends on personal preference. I find the controls to be more than sufficient... (continued in next post)

  • @diezdiazgiant: ... for example: you can use two buttons to skip between fav playlists, the encoder to scroll through the list, and the push event to load the selected track into a focused deck.

I made this video for the heck of it, just to show that if you really want the V7s to work with traktor, it's not much of a problem. since itch is a lightweight app, running it alongside traktor only to serve as a source of timecode is no big deal for the CPU. nobody forces you to do it .)

  • @diezdiazgiant He just showed it does work? ????

  • I had been thinking about this sort of setup with scratch live. After seeing this with traktor I think I will give it a try. Thanks... Good demo..

  • @DJJOESKI1985: glad I could help!

  • wurstfinger! :P
