  • @MoshtHrasta I really like this song for the tune and it is true I haven't seen a real gypsy and to be honest I don't know what gypsy really do. Care to enlighten me?

  • ^^T^^I am in love...

  • i am trying but i just can't like this song.

only people that have never seen a real gypsy and brainwashed democrats like gypsies.

if you lived with them like we in Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania do. You would hate them also. believe me!

  • @MoshtHrasta Hi there, i am from Bulgaria and i know exactly for what you are talking about -.- but i think that this song has deeper meaning which is by no means connected with their deeds. I think gypsy here means one who wanders, who is on a pilgrimage.

    Поздрави^^

  • This in combination with Rainy Mood is extra beautiful!!

  • This was one of my favourite songs from the band 'Rennaissance' who I saw live while in college in the late '70's. Blackmore's Night does the song very well!

Looking forward to listening to more of 'Blackmore's Night'.

  • An absolutly great cover of my favorite band, Rennaissance. I'm about to go on an Itunes binge....

  • I fall into this wonderful fantasy world while listening to this....

  • @Gasten400 so do i.

  • @Gasten400 Don't think it's fantasy. It can be real :)

  • I find this version to be much better than the original.

  • @zyxomma1 agreed!

  • "Then she met a hollow soul, filled him with her light and was consoled"

"Day has taken her and now she's gone"

"Something gone within her eyes, her fingers lifeless stroke the sand"

Well besides being dead, i find myself in everything else.

    And love the quality :)

  • im aziz wooow good Ocean Gipsy ok aim forom uae

  • @22abooody Falô!

  • wonderful song

  • Just heard this for the first time, immediately after listening to the Carnegie Hall version of Ocean Gypsy by Renaissance. Ms. Night is no Annie Haslam, but then she's not trying to be and I think that is why this song works so well. It's a very good cover and stands on its own merits. I think I'm probably going to become a Blackmore's Night fan.

  • @Clothahump Trivia: Did you know Candice sang this with Annie once.............and Annie recommended she should cover it someday..........just sayin.

I was ahuge Renaissance fan back in the day when OG was first performed and like you, I prefer Annie's version. That being said, I love Blackmore;s Night and think Candice does a fine job with her version, for sure :)

    peace

  • I really enjoy this song. Lovely vocals.

I also found the slideshow to be pretty intriguing. Each picture contains either a compositional or thematic element of the preceding and succeeding images.

  • I do like the hymn of the song.... it feels good to my heart

  • By the way, everybody, it is Ocean Gypsy, not Gipsy

  • A wonderful cover of Renaissance. I really like it!!

  • @DeloreanFanatic i thought it's Blackmore's Night O.o

  • @RouRa9 This is Blackmore's Night's cover of the original, which was by Renaissance.

  • @dwjones take your ear plugs out

  • HI to all. I love this version of this song. I am a personal friend of Betty Thatcher the woman who wrote the words to this song. She loves this version as well. As a fan of Renaissance since the early 70's I didn't think anyone could hit it as well as Annie but then 6 months ago i heard this and i have been in love with Candice Night ever since. I hope Betty's words will live on forever.

  • This cover is so good. :D It honors the original. :3

  • I think 13 people missed the 'like button'

  • @gothus48

  • @gothus48 I would not say 100 times. There may have been a time where I would have thought no one could sing this song as well as Annie but I am now hooked on Candice Night

  • brill.

  • This song was recorded to first time for Renaissance(Annie Haslan) band in 1975,beautiful progressive/art rock of 70's.

  • @fabiorugolo Eh-hem........it's Haslam, btw. That band was iconic in the 70s and I really liked their stuff :)

    peace

  • a világ ha így élne jobb lenne nem ragozom tovább. 10 évig kerestem a zenéjüket. Szegeden hülyének néztek. Fonetikusan reneszánsz. Miint borjú .................

  • I learnt to know this song through the band Renaissance. Great stuff

  • really great pictues. ;)

  • Blackmore's Night is one of the best artists ever not to receive mass popularity.

Ocean Gipsy, Ghost of a Rose, and Under A Violet Moon are some of my favorit songs ever.

  • Very beautiful video ...

  • greatful..............

  • Very beautiful! but gypsy isn't spelled gipsy

  • 2 many pics .-.

  • fantastic pictures to go with this fantastic and haunting song :) great job!

  • WOW where did you get those pictures from they're B..E..A..utiful

    =)

  • ...about this cover is that it doesn't seem like it's trying too hard, like some covers can. It flows very well with the band's usual style and doesn't try to best the original in any way, just puts its own spin on it in such a way that it ends up good. I respect them for paying homage to a band as brilliant as Renaissance.

  • :'((

    he missed more

  • very nice video..

  • This cover is very good for the simple reason that it doesn't try to outdo the original in even the slightest. It just works with what it has and ends up being very good because of it.

Of course, it can't even compare to the original, nor can Candice Night's voice even come CLOSE to matching that of Annie Haslam's, but then again, is it really trying? I think not.

It's got this Progger's seal of approval.

  • @KingProgdor That is purely subjective. I prefer Night's voice ;)

  • @KingProgdor Hey Prog I agree. I have been a Ren fan since this incarnation first toured the the US. Ever since i heard the cover version of OG I have been listening to more of BN and find that Candice has a delightful voice to listen to. She may not have a 5 octave range like Annie had but she can do song that I don't think Annie can do. Not bad for a girl from Long Island ;)

  • Reinessance is the orgional version

  • I think this song is a romantic tragity but hay this is just what I have to say about this vid

  • Wow. a very nice song. I need to go download this from itunes now.

  • It's basically the story of Innana's descent into the underworld, from the Necronomicon.

  • Not the story from that horrible, horrible, horrible book by Simon hopefully...

  • The one and the same.

  • I can see what you mean. I think I would like that book if its formatting wasn't such a blatant ripoff of the Satanic Bible by LaVey. I think I'd also like it more if it was not called The Necronomicon. Tyson did a better job but Simon's book has its own merit and would stand alone a lot better had he not tried to pull the Lovecraft ticket on it. I should apologize for calling it horrible.

  • I enjoy reading people's interpretation of my lyrics and ultimately they become what you think they are. However, this song was not taken from a book or a legend or anything else. In fact, to quote it, "It stands alone" Betty

  • @BettyNewsinger Have been enjoying your amazing lyrics set to Renaissances' excellent and "Sophisticated" Music since the mid 70's and from a country that never played their music.

  • @BettyNewsinger I read about them in the 2nd edition of NME Book of Rock and they were categorised (by inferior music critics) as Techno Rock, later the term Progressive was applied to early '7os music that didn't follow a Blues Based path, and confused the marketeers, I'm so proud to be able to write to you and say you played an enormous part in revolutionising the whole approach to music and lyrics!

  • @malekmo50 I have to say if it was not for Betty who knows where Renaissance may have gone. Candice does justice to Betty's words

  • @BettyNewsinger Betty you are my HERO. Love you forever and ever

    Michael

  • @eternallyfoxwinter This song was not written about any story in any book

  • @yng460

  • @yng460

  • Thank you very much. Wonderful song, Beautiful picture.

  • This is amazing! The pictures totally match the song! Thank you for this...

  • omnom.

  • every bit as good as the original done by Annie Haslam of RENAISSANCE

  • so cute, so romantic

  • Romantic? It's tragic if anything.

  • It's hard to find a situation that can end more tragically than a romance.

  • its also hard to find one that end more happily ;)

  • Beautiful... magical... a bit haunting.

  • Wonderful :-)

  • very beautiful video and amazing song ...beautiful creation ************

  • Just beautiful!

  • Beautiful!!! Thank you! 5*****

  • awesome

  • allright, too many things and not enough space to type them upon. very nice capture of the lady with FRIENDLY CROW SITTING ON HER HAND! Again once more a very nice still moment with the crows around the lady in the pond. Allright, the path with the green grass and trees with bright golden leaves just speaks to me it REALLY shines through for me.

  • I believe it's drawn, but it does look great regardless.

  • lindo----lindo

  • just waaaaw

  • Gypsy o-o not gipsy

  • cried

  • Lovely, but her voice doesn't hold a candle to Annie Haslam's in Renaissance. But then, who does?

  • the song makes me want to cry a bit....its sad but then awsome at the same time!

  • thats just your opinion, Candice has an absolutely angelic voice....and nobody doing this music comes close to the amazing songs that keep coming from Ritchie and Candice& the top notch musicians Ritchie has

I think it is a beautiful vid but we are different.

  • @stiegy97291

Just an update incase anyone knows Stiegy he has recently passed on I believe back in Feb 2010.

    RIP Stiegy

  • on the reccomendation of Betty Thatcher Newsinger this is one of her favorite videos...And she should know, she wrote the song!

  • beautiful song! I find this group yesterday and it is great

  • gorgeous!

  • 'sentances' should be spelt 'sentences'! and yes this song is very beautiful it warms the heart in this snowy weather

  • I dont care how its spelled its very beautiful and thats all that counts

  • The Death Watcher no offense but get your facts straight when you try do a spell check - it can be spelt either way ~ Sastipe (be well)

  • Gypsy is spelt with a y.

    Nice pictures though.

  • spelt is not a word. You mean spelled.
