i think that Fletcher shouldn't of fired Maurice..he's only been with Toronto for 2 seasons! And i don't really like the idea of Ron Wilson being the head coach.
I hope that old prick Fletcher signs Wilson, then the Leafs sign Burke, then Burke decides he doesn't like Wilson so he fires him(like he did in Anaheim when he first arrived-Babcock). Why the hell this organization lets an interim GM sign a coach is beyond me. But then again, it is the Leafs....
a lot of general managers would want ron wilson as their coach and brian burke and him have a lot of history together. So in some way they are trying to get burke to sign with them and they will do anything to do that. Also ron wilson has an amazing coaching record, he is 3rd amongst active coaches in wins. i think it is a good signing.
What history does Brian Burke have with Ron Wilson?
Besides the 96' World Cup, what has Ron Wilson won? (answer: nothing)
I am not a Ron Wilson fan, as you likely can tell. His ego is out of control, and this team will have no reason for egomaniacs in the next 2 seasons at least.
They should bring up Gilbert from the Marlies, or hire Peter Deboer or Craig Hartsburg from the OHL. Give someone a start, it's not like this team will do anything in the next few years anyways...
"What history does Brian Burke have with Ron Wilson?"
Ummmmm... Ron Wilson and Brian Burke played together at Providence College where they became very good friends. Ron is actually the godfather of one of Brian's daughters... so the anwer to that is... ALOT!!!
Good point but I don't think Brian Burke... out of ANYBODY in hockey... has any problem with separating BUSINESS from PLEASURE! In other words... Ron Wilson is a great coach... and he may in fact be a good friend of Brian... but if Burke does in fact become the GM of the Leafs... Wilson will have to WIN in order to keep his job... or Burke will bring in somebody else! And Wilson knows it!!!
I wonder, have the Leafs gone after Wilson because of his close ties with Burke, or have they gone after him because Burke told them to? It would after all be one less chore for him to complete on arrival...I certainly hope this wasn't Fletcher's idea.
I don't think that there is any doubt that the Leafs have "tampered" with Burke... meaning that they have found a way to speak with him without permission. Fletcher is nothing more than a body right now.. he has very little say in what's going on with the team. So if the Leafs have an unofficial agreement right now with Burke to come.... even if it's NEXT season after his contract works out... then it's not unsafe to say that he may be already "mentioning" what who he would like to see as coach!
Good points. I hope when Burke does arrive he is somehow able to convince the board at MLSE to part ways with Pedie. This will be a tough under-taking, given that Pedie has the backing of the Teachers pension fund, but Burke has the brains, and the balls.
I also think the leafs need to get tougher. Does anybody agree?

So my question is; is it a good thing that the future GM and future coach are this close?
It could make firing him rather difficult...
