Oh and you have to smile at the amount of assists to Messi, who generally seems to have about 6 players to beat still to score, but does it! Awesome. Privileged to watch the guy play. Saw Xavi destroy my team in Rome 09 too, had to applaud
@freedomjustice1995 Messi has better speed acceleration and agility then Diego. He is also a better finisher and goalscorer. But he does not have Diego's technique, creativity, passing and vision.
And Pele no fitness…?! He run 90 minutes, played 4 games a week, run the 100 meters in 11 seconds, jumped 1,80 high, performed all this with a basketball on muddy pitches, and survived all those terror tackles; Watch this: /watch?v=xqSnYoOQmFM
In this era the tactics are better, the game is faster, but the conditions back then were terrible. Much harder for attackers.
No, Maradona played in the hardest age in football.
In the age were defenders like Gentille never(!) recieved a red card. Enough said.
No tactics, no system, no fitness, but why is that a plus for Pele, if the defenders he played against did not have that extra fitness or tactics, he did not have them either… A dumb argument isn't it... a contradiction.
Amazing video, there is no doubt Xavi is definitely the best midfielder in history, but unfortunately the prize of best player in the world more counts by scoring goals and that is not fair. I know Messi is a great player in his time now but i think Xavi deserved the golden ball in 2010, because of world cup. That is my opinion.
Maradona had a better shot, much better. His free kicks where levels above Messi's, even when Maradona was a teenager. His passing was more complete. He was a better playmaker. Maradona was more creative, better technique and had more skills then Messi.
Although Messi is just 24 and his passing, and playmaking skills will improve. He can be, but is not better then Maradona.
Please before claiming such knowledge, know were your talking about.
I say: The defence was less organized, but there was no protection from the refferee (as we could see in the “66 world cup). Defenders could kick and punch you anytime, i rather play against a organized defence, then the defenders of that time.
What would Messi do against 5 Pepe's, who could get no red or yellow cards..?!
With a ball (especially when it was raining) as heavy as a basketball, with amazing balance, switching directions on full speed, and able to do it with both legs (that is making it much more difficult for the defenders, plus Pele could dribble a defender on both sides and he still kept that devine close controll.
Do you understand what kind of dribbling/technique you must poses...
Pele played with great players, and still was by far the best, get how good he was...!!
Do you even know what kind of divine technique you must have, to run on full speed (pele run 100 meters in 11 seconds), on mudpool pitches full of holes, with defenders who kick, punch you and no yellow and red cards.
Yep and that exactly in Peps mind to make sure the midfielders to be taken very seriously, the football was played and saw differently now and GUARDIOLAISM just about to begin baby :)
Pele won more cups (and scored the double of Messi's goals) at the age of 24.
But since when do we rate players by cups?
Is Inzaghi a better player then Batistuta because he won more cups..?
The cups don't mean much, it's the impact & quality of the player that counts!
As for Maradona vs Messi. Maradona was more creative and a born leader. That brings a lot of extra's to his game - he was better in every aspect in football, except speed and goalscoring.
@totaalvoetbal My dad saw Pele, and he says that Pele wouldn't stand a match nowadays if he was Messi's age. He says that defenders in that era were turtles compared to nowadays, there was no offside rule, and EVERY goal counted for the personal record, friendly matches included.
@daniel6235 Pele counted the friendly matches (520 of 1283), he scored 760 official goals. Offside was introduced in 1925. Pele had the same physical training of the slow defenders of his era. Today training is better for Messi and the other defenders. Now all players have more balance. Think that Messi was helped by the technology of this era to be taller. In Pele's era the protections were terrible, the shoes heavier and if you got an injury on the calf bone you were out.
everybody knows it well who the best midfielder in this planet.....not a single award to identify him.....when the question who is the best killer pass and midfielder ,the name xavi will be the first name in mind.
@freedomjustice1995 Yes Maradona played 11 vs 11 just like Messi does. And of course Maradona would not have done it without his terammates but neither would Messi. The only difference between them is that Messi has the best team of all times around him. He's a great player but definetly not the best in history in my opinion! The best player I've had a chance to watch is Xavi Hernandez, probably because I'm too young to remember Maradona.
@freedomjustice1995 Messi easily has better teammates up front than Maradona did in 86. I agree Messi doesn't do bad with Argentina, but we have all seen what Messi can do with barca and know it's time he showed that with Argentina.
BTW Maradona would have been unstoppable with this Argentina.
@freedomjustice1995 Please stop undervalueing the Argentinian players because they have many many great players apart from Messi. If they played well as a team they would easily be one of the main contenders to win the WC. And it is definetly true that Messi's teammates make him shine at Barca just like he makes them shine at times but even Messi is only human and cannot push his National Team above their weight on his own how Maradona did years ago. Maradona also played at Napoli, not Barca
@marianjunior23 He didnt have players of the same quality around him as Messi does to support him. Messi is a fantastic player, not God. Only God is God.
@freedomjustice1995 I completely understand what you are saying and I want to say that I think Xavi is a more valuable player to Barca than Messi because for instance he would get more out of his teammates if he was put in the Argentina team instead of Messi due to the fact that he can encourage, direct and create play on a level that nobody in the world can. Messi is a brilliant player but he is more often on the end of things than Xavi which is more easily recognised by an average footy fan
Thumbs up if you think Messi deserves to win the Ballon D'or 2011, but still deep inside you wanted Xavi to do! Man Xavi deserves more recognition. I love you Xavi <3
Another excellent video, love all these Marquez assists, however few remarks:124 it is Messi assist - you even counted it as Messi assist in your other video, Number 9 & 110 does not count - it was firstly deflected by the keeper, I also have some doubts concerning 17, 25, 26, 48:), 66, 73,78,94, 97, 102 - especially 48
@freedomjustice1995 Argentina is shit everyone knows that, but the "greatest player of all time" rarely shows up if it's not nigeria or Costa Rica U 23 lol. Where was Mehssi in the second half of the Uruguay game? Against Germany in the WC? Please get of Messi's cock.
131 would not believe its on purpose had I not seen the previous 130. XAVI! Amazing to think that you also need to contend with the through balls from Iniesta. Nice team for a striker.
@Barca040 around 3:54 it's adele - rolling in the deep covered by jon schmidt i think. from 10:44 is jon schmidt - love story meets viva la vida. that's all i know :)
@freedomjustice1995 Oh I see the greatest player of all time can't score a damn goal with players like Aguero, Banega, Higuain, Lavezzi. Please stop making excuses first it's the coach, then the team, then the fans.Sure Messi can score against Nigeria Albania etc.... But where was he against Uruguay in the second half? I can talk all the garbage I want until Messi starts performing for his national team. You are just a typical Messi fanboy who can't see the truth.
@32heyjoe funny how the players u mentioned are attackers, and that banega is a defensive mid.. there's no one for argentina to link the defensive mids (banega/cambiasso) with the attackers (except for pastore who hardly plays).. the only attacker who is deadly as a playmaker as well as a scorer is messi which is why he plays deep.. As for the uruguay game if u actually watched it u wouldv known that he provided numerous chances for higuain to score although he played as a centre mid.
@32heyjoe It is poor management as the manager can't find the balance in midfield. messi can't provide all by himself so the other midfielders (who can't provide) come forward and the fullbacks have to push forward and provide crosses when Arg attack.. this leaves their crappy defence prone to the counter-attack (a scenario which Arg concede to quite often).. its been a problem that has existed even before maradona became manager
Fantastic tour of Barcelonas playing style and goalscorers of the last decade. Xavi is really the man behind all the memorable goals. It it's also clear how much Messi kicks testicles on a pitch
Number 48 is something haters need for that bullshit argument: Messi is bad without Xavi.
This wasn't a real assist.
On the other hand Xavi gave lots of assists that could count for 10. That much quality. The best mdifielder I have ever seen along with Zidane and Iniesta.
Xavi Hernandez <3 (no homo...ok maybe a bit for him lol xD)
16:25 I would be 100% sure was an accident for any other midfielder. For Xavi...not sure.
Needs a ballon d´or really midfielders are vastly underrated in the vote for "worlds best". Without Xavi not as many titles for barca these past years and definitely no EC and WC-golds for Spain (whereas the only player from RM to even be close to imortant in the national team is Alonso).
Brilliant player. Brilliant vision. Thank God he's at Barca.
Lol I love how so many of his assists for Messi are from Messi being a one man show, though. I mean that getafe goal ( among others) I dunno if I would consider that an assist.
I wonder about a lot of the assists counted for players. I would personally count them as key passes when the player who scores practically goes through the whole defense.
the last song in this vid is coldplays viva la vida, played by the pianoguys. you can search it on youtube under "pianoguys viva la vida". the pianoguys have a youtube-account with several instrumental pieces of their own, other recommendations of their music is e.g. Adeles rolling in the deep.
Wonderful. I wish you would keep updating this project at the end of every season. A privilege to watch his incisive passing and ball control. The last goal is just outrageous...what wonderful ball control from both xavi and messi
In a different video (Messi's 92 assists), you gave the assist for Thiago's goal against la Real last season to Messi (15:30). I apologize in advance for the pedantry.
I wish I could like this video every time I see It , It would go past eminem and rihanna videos

Xavi Hernandez <3 (no homo...ok maybe a bit for him lol xD)

thumbs up for the pianoguys and xavi, both fantastic musicians in their own respects, xavi conducting the barcelona passing orchestra...

131! wow!! was that intended???
Brilliant player. Brilliant vision. Thank God he's at Barca.
Lol I love how so many of his assists for Messi are from Messi being a one man show, though. I mean that getafe goal ( among others) I dunno if I would consider that an assist.
I wonder about a lot of the assists counted for players. I would personally count them as key passes when the player who scores practically goes through the whole defense.

@all
the last song in this vid is coldplays viva la vida, played by the pianoguys. you can search it on youtube under "pianoguys viva la vida". the pianoguys have a youtube-account with several instrumental pieces of their own, other recommendations of their music is e.g.

Only 132? If I think of Xavi, I always think he has done like 30-40 assists per season.
Giodude 1 month ago
@Giodude last season he had 14 or 15...as surprised as you. I think it has a lot to do with Messi playing centrally and providing much more now.
Although this season Xavi is picking it up again...and he's adding way more goals too. Xavi has an incredible amount of key passes per season though.
nayou317 1 month ago
@nayou317 Yeah, indeed. Must be one the top 3 best midfielders of this century. Without him, Barca probably won half the prizes, they have now.
