LoL. To answer the Q: "What is the aurora?" AKA "Northern Lights" = reaction that takes place in Earth's upper atmosphere, in the magnetosphere. Radiation emitted from the sun (AKA "Solar Wind") sometimes hits Earth as it goes by. It is deflected by the atmosphere, so the display is only visible at high/low latitudes because the planet deflects radiation away towards the poles. The light is a chemicle reaction between solar radiation & electrically charged particles in the magnetosphere.
this is one of the most beautiful things i have ever seen. one of the things i want to do before i die is to be right there and watch these northern lights.
yea i wish this were longer too...is this is real time? i hope so. a lot of times they speed it up and i never know just how fast the lights move naturally
Actually, that's right about seeing rainbows all the time (though I can't remember when I last saw one), but if we lived where we could see the Northern Lights they wouldn't be that unusual for us!

Northern lights is actually light that is coming out of the opening in the Earth at the north pole. The light is emitted from the Earths inner sun

the sun :D

Yep. The sun. Electrically charged particles, coming from the Sun ionize the air around the Earth and make it give out light.

Electricity from the sun meets our atmosphere at the poles...I think:-)

Supposedly there is going to be a big solar storm in 2012. Maybe we will be able to see them further south than Alaska.

I live in southern Ontario and I can see them from the cottage in summer sometimes.
