And there interest in it was for textile and rope. Pot plants have many other uses than just smoking it. And back then commodities like rope and other cloth materials including paper were precious.And my convictions that pot is bad to smoke comes from experience with pot heads-- they'll tell you it's made them stupider.

@jmitterii2 Many people are imprisoned for non violent drug crimes everyday. If the government would end the war on drugs, all the crime surrounding hemp would go away like it did with prohibition. So they're very related. People back then would have just called all the different strains "hemp". The term "marijuana" to differentiate came later. There's obviously no point in smoking hemp with little to no THC, so if they were smoking it, it was obviously the ones that made them feel high.

You wouldn't understand, you have never been addicted to anything. They depend on it. I have done both cigarettes and marijuana multiple times. Weed always makes me cough like crazy. cigarettes dont make me even feel like coughing. (not saying that cigarettes are at all better) one time i swear i even got bronchitis from it.

I remember one time breathing in second-hand smoke from someone who I was talking to, and I felt like I couldn't breathe for the next couple hours. I was also at a hookah bar once (didn't participate), but the tobacco smoke from everyone got everyone on me and made me feel disgusting.

I've never ever had that experience with weed. I never felt it affect my health negatively. It really helps with concentration
