it is there best song. no one needs to rip me for typing this. i took many years to get to this conclusion. how dynamic the guitar work is here. itz a full masterpiece.
I saw the Page /Plant show when it came to Australia in 1995/96. Pagey looked older than Methuselah but was playing quite well compared to the ARMS concert period when the smack had killed his chops/health completely.
i have studied guitars and guitarists for alot of yrs but page's style and taste just takes me in like noone else's . I don't claim to now who is the best but I sure know who I like the most
Thank you so much for this. This is one of my all time favorites and I don't think they played it live in Zeppelin. Also, not in the Page / Plant shows that I saw, so it's great to hear and see it live. Never been another musician that cuts through me body and soul like Jimmy Page.
@Emilyplays1: oh no shitt? That sucks. Well I honestly didn't like his performance.I don't think he matched up to bonhams pace. But yeah if you're out there playing for one of the greatest bands, that does mean you're good
does any1 knows if they ever played this live on the LedZep days, I have a bunch of bootlegs, either low quality or high quality but never seen this on their setlist.
@LaDr0n3 I think he's a pretty damn good drummer man. He did stuff up that transition at the start into the slow bit but I've seen heaps of his performances. He's awesome! His name is Michael Lee. His real name is Michael Jackson but he used his middle name (Lee) for obvious reasons probably. He died early like Bonham. I think he was 40 when he died about 6 years ago.
Most fantastical version; just wow-ing my soul. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant what a pair of magnificent talented BEings. Makes your heart scream out because it reaches within and squeezes it to pieces. Ummmmmm. ENJOY Birthday Boy; for your own mastery of the guitar = these luscious beings. To be at a live concert right now listening to these magnificent BEings; celebrating your birthday; would be something I would WILL TO BE. :-))) XXXOOO Yep for sure. :-)))
Jimmy letting it all hang out. Presence is one of Jimmy's favorite albums. Recorded and produced in 3 weeks. Critics thought Jimmy was out of his mind on smack but it turned out to be his best record of guitar playing. Between Tea for One, Nobody's Fault But Mine and Achilles Last Stand let there be no doubt that Jimmy was still the God in 76. Very nice touch for them to include this live in95 and to remember For Your Life in 2007 at the Zep Reunion.
Finally found the accurate TAB book for this album. Pagey is letting the orchestra handle the more basic rhythm parts. The tune has 2 to 3 stacked guitars going, a bit impossible to play live. Sounds simple but some of his structures are quite difficult one reason live he might often flub a phrase but these recordings are masterworks. Such a treat to see this live, I am so shocked to see it here on YT. Shows some of the genius and unique playing of Maestro Jimmy.
The thing to love about Jimmy is he plays loose and is not afraid to flub a note, he is not perfect but who is able to compose and invent amazing pieces like this one. I have played some mean blues in my day but never some of the cool simple chord hangs and shifts he does, simple but just genius. Best of all time! I wonder if the drummer got a band meeting after this missing some ques, what if it was Achilles Last Stand? Another killer tune off Presence, do check it out, my all time fav.
A lot of comments on Bonamassa's cover of this tune. That was a studio take where this is live. Jimmy overdubbed as many as 6 guitars on this studio version on Presence. What a treat here to see him cop it live, just killer. Live long Jimmy, you are top of the mountain.
There are few words to express the talent these guys brought to popular music. If this song doesn't express the lonliness and desperation of being on the road away from your loved ones....what does? How appropriate to have an orchestra supplement the man who made a guitar band sound orchestral with its layers, sonic improvisations, dynamics, and sheer power. Thanks Jimmy....you are the All-Time best rocker this planet has ever known! Great job by Michael Lee on the kit and Charlie Jones on bass.
No one compares to Page. If you dont believe me just look up the Ahmet Ertegun concert in the Guinness book of world record. No other guitarist has ever done that...
ZEPPELIN BLUES WILL ALWAYS BE IN A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN !! JIMMY TRULY PLAYED FROM THE HEART !! HE DID NOT HAVE TO BE PERFECT BUT HIS SKILL ALLOWED HIM TO GET THERE ON THE GUITAR WHERE OTHERS DARED NOT GO !! THIS AND STILL LOVING YOU WERE HIS " BEST BLUES" !! MY FAVORITES !! PERIOD !!

Bad. No, I actually mean bad in terms of that this was Jimmy pissed out of his head again and couldn't be bothered (I met him 2 months ago in Brighton and heard the same from him). The backing players had put a lot of effort into hoping he would play at least somewhere close to the studio version.

@Raisnghavoc Actually, because ticket prices for a reunion tour would probably be outrageous, I think I would prefer if they released a CD/DVD package of the O2 show. @Raisnghavoc That's my point; they were Zep again, whether they liked it or not. I even have a tour shirt that says, "The Second Coming". They shouldn't have done any Zep songs if that's what they wanted. JPJ had every right to be pissed off. Plant will do anything and sing anything as long as it doesn't say Led Zeppelin even if it is. That's fine, I don't care if they called it Plant, Page, Jones & Bonham. They just need to do it before another one of them passes away.
This is great! Love it! Never understood why they didn't invite JPJ though. Who did they think they were fooling? I also wonder why Page's Les Pau'ls always lacked sustain.
