It was time to write Rita off. She served her purpose and would have taken the character into a whole different realm that would no longer be believable for Dexter. Good writing decision.
No, it was a shitty decision. It screwed up the show and made the characters do unbelievable things. Like the kids going to live with grandparents they barely saw, and them writing in Lumen, who I honestly didn't give a fuck about because I didn't know her from Adam. Season 5 also left a lot of things hanging-like, WTF happened to Deb's knowledge of Dexter's past? What happened to the Trinity investigation? All of this had to do with cop outs on the writers' parts.
@AlysiumX i was actually happy with it. dont watch it for the cute loving parts (though they sometimes do well in contrast), i watch it for the psycho dex keeping it cool and then mutilating a guy. cant wait for season 5!!!
