@ppcasey9 continued. It's nothing to do with Bowie, honestly. John Simon, the co-writer of the song with Robbie Robertson, also worked extensively with "Dave" Mason (of Pink Floyd fame), so maybe it's about him instead? Or neither of them in actual fact. Things are rarely as you'd like to think they might be. Best wishes.
@ppcasey9 No sir. Coincidence about the name (Davy/David) and the "different clothes" (Ziggy/Thin White Duke), and even mention of Jean ("Genie"?) doesn't prove the connection. And it remains true that even after the death of Ziggy Stardust, Davy didn't get 'on the road again' in the sense you mean. Although he appeared on many TV shows a la "Diamond Dogs" mini-era, he did not tour during his "Young American" jazz/soul stint either. It was a few years before he hit hard touring again.
That 1 person who disliked this video must have hit the wrong button...

When this song was out some people said it's about Bowie as HE returned to performing after dropping the Ziggy Stardust persona.
Can anyone confirm if that is the case?
