  • I notice he doesn't lean forward at 0:55. Why is this ?

As far as I know, you lean forwards, whilst driving your hips back into your opponent, striking both sides of the ribs

  • Una ejecución de la cadera y del shomen/hanmi, envidiables. Embuzen de un maestro. Chinte, un hermoso Kata, poco practicado a veces, muchas gracias por compartir este video OSS!!! desde Chile

  • @pagondouin i dont think so !

  • Many instructors have their own interpretation and even their own variations of this and other katas. this is a good thing, because it gives us a variety of ways we can use the techniques. There is no right or wrong way, The important thing is to be able to apply the techniques in a practical situation. If you can't, you are wasting your time.

  • awesome, ossu

  • Ohta was my Sensei in London about 6 years ago or so. He supervised my black-belt graduation. Incredibly father-like, yet humorous legend.

  • Our version of Chinte has mutated so much that it's barely recognizable. I hope to learn the traditional version sometime in the future.

  • Amazing movement.

  • the kiai points are different from kanazawas chinte... which one is the right?

  • his style is not shotokan right? oss

  • @isodaba this is shotokan ... :P

  • @kirtorn nooo, look at the kanazawas chinte, this is shotokan :P..... ^^

  • Very good shotokan technician

  • wow thats a really good chinte and i like the way he is talking through it. Where does he teach?

  • He's the Chief Instructor in england (JKA) so mainly in England. But he comes to other countries to grade Dans and teach lessons while over there. He's coming to Ireland to grade the Dans next week and I'm going to his training session. I've never been trained by a Japanese instructor yet. It'll be cool.

  • I just had a course with him this past Friday, a brilliant instructor with a great sense of humour, you'll enjoy his session :)

  • I trained at that course with you!

  • You can positively feel the sense of delight as Ohta Sensei glances down to check his perfect finishing position, at the starting point of the kata. How wonderful to see--thank you for this posting. I have trained with Ohta Sensei once- a memorable experience and an emphatic teacher. Would love to know when he next teaches in Hampshire.

  • Wow, that kia sounds f'ing cool with the reverb and echo, lol.

Apart from my internet slang, that was a very nice kata. I noticed you were using Japanese for the names of the strikes and targets, as well. Very cool.

  • OHTA SENSEIIIII!!!! man i love him!!! SENSEI OHHTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

  • His embusen never fails to impress me, ok HE and a Karateka never fails to but his Embusen is spot on every time.

  • Ah, this guy is awesome :D

Have trained under him many times here in Norway, he visits twice a year or so :)

Probably the second best instructor I've trained with, quite an even run though ^^

  • im goin for ma black belt grading hes gnna test me

  • Metallirocks, I have the honour of training at Sensei's dojo in central London, and I can tell you you're lucky to see two clips. He doesn't even like having his picture taken! He has called me out for demonstration quite a few times and I've not been able to hit him in 2 1/2 years. Lord knows I've tried! If you ever find yourself in London, drop in and give it a go.

  • Gostei do Ohta sensei, muito bom, boa técnica, bem explicativo. Nota 10.

  • good sensei. i have respect for him.

  • Had a training session with him last week in Cork. Brilliant. What a master. I was even lucky enough to be called out for a demonstration with him 3 times.

Thanks for posting. Wish there was more of Sensei Ohta on youtube.

  • We had him for a few hours the past sunday (2nd March) Amazing technique and understanding when he demonstrated. Great sense of humour too :D.

  • i bet ohta is glad he doesnt have to carry enoedas bag any more.i always felt sorry for him when i saw that.

  • sensei ohta visits our dojo for all our gradings.

I have had him right from the start.

    respect ohta

    oss.

  • Which dojo is that?

  • i love sensei ohta!!

he graded me from white to brown and double, was lucky enough to have sensei Enoda for my 1st dan!! LEGEND!

  • Ohta Sensei rocks! going through such an advanced kata WHILE giving explanations...! absolutely fascinating!

  • This is typical of an Ohta course, he is quite prepared to go through an entire kata from start to finish under close scrutiny. Technically superb.

  • Brilliant!!!

I'd heard about this Sensei from various top Karateka for years

...now I see why he is held to such high regard.
